American Idol - Choice Cuts

Top 3 Performance Night - Theme: Judges, Producers, Singers Choices

Final 3. Also known as, the final 2 David's and whoever else was left and made it through the rest of the weeks. Who would have thought it would have been Syesha, but here she is and peaking just at the right time. Maybe there might be a race! Well, maybe not...

David Archuleta sings judges choice "And So It Goes", his own choice "With You", and producers choice "Longer". I love his voice. Love it, and while his personal choice to modernize his sound might not have worked wonders, I still enjoyed it. It wasn't perfect and he could have used a bit more practice, but it was a sign that it was possible. Plus, as least he was mostly on pitch, which some current artists cant' even do when forced to sing live, so his minute pitch problems can be excused. His Idol would reach a Michael Buble kind of niche which may not be the most contemporary thing, but it can work, and I wouldn't turn off the sound of his voice no matter what he sang.

Syesha Mercado sings judges choice "If I Ain't Got You", her own choice "Fever", and producers choice "Hit Me Up" and she starts off as a real competitor, giving a hint that it may not be a David's only final, but then it got worse and worse with bad song choices. While she was fine, if overly dramatic (perfect for Broadway) in her "Fever", her last booty shaking song was abysmal and lost her any points she gained over the past few weeks.

David Cook sings judges choice "First Time I Ever Saw Your Face", her own choice "Dare You To Move", and producers choice "I Don't Want To Miss A Thing". Apparently, Cook's choices were to sing songs with long titles. Personally, I thought the judges and producers gave him horribly tedious choices, but he sang it like he normally does and made it as interesting as one could. He's the contemporary choice and would make a great current and relevant Idol, just get him a better writing team. Yes, that was a slight at Diane Warren.

Best of the night: David Cook with "Dare You To Move" and David Archuleta with "And So It Goes" and "Longer" and Syesha Mercado with "If I Ain't Got you"

Worst of the night: Syesha Mercado with "Hit Me Up"

Going home? Syesha Mercado

....Are you going to do a post on Monday's shows? HIMYM, 2 & A Half Men, etc. I saw them, but I like your recaps.

Love the blog.

Can somebody explain to me how the Producers' choice works? Are the idols given several songs to choose from? Otherwise, how can the judges criticize song choice like they do?
Definately a David-David final!

Oh thanks! I usually dont watch Two and a Half Men but i was looking forward to HIMYM until the Buffalo station here postponed it to follow a LIVE BREAKING NEWS of some idiot in his car with a gun. for the WHOLE HOUR. WTF? So apparnetly they ran the shows last night at 2am (!????) so hopefully Ill watch it tonight (though I never actually double checked).

As fo the producers choice, yeah, I was never sure of that. Because they could totally sabotage it. Which is what it almost felt like last night with Syesha. Cause that was a BAD song choice. (From what I know, the singers don't get to pick).
