SYTYCD7 - And We FINALLY Have Our Top 10

So You Think You Can Dance - Season 7 - Top 11 Results Night - The Cut From 11 to 10 - Ep. 707
Judges: Nigel Lythgoe, Mia Michaels, Adam Shankman

So we'll FINALLY get down to a Top 10 tonight. Well THAT was fast!?! (If you want to enter the Social's Fantasy Pool, make your guesses on the form here)

Top 11 Group Dance
Choreographed by: Tessandra Chavez
Song: "Acapella" - Kelis
Grade: B+

You could say that was the best Top 11 dance they've had. And also the worst. Top 11 dance they've had. Now if only we could truly enjoy the first Top 11 dance without feeling nauseous from the camerawork. They really need to stop letting the camerapeople drink before the show. From what I could tell when I wasn't hurling, the dance seemed fun though deceivingly simplistic. Grated, for the first group dance, it's usually required to accommodate the different styles of the large group of dancers. Great choice of music helps too.

Here's the video of the Top 11 Group Dance:

The Predictions from Top 11 Performance Night:
Bottom Three: Melinda, Alexie, Ashley

And since the judges will now choose from the bottom 3 (voted by the audience), it's almost obvious who is going to go home this week:
Going Home Melinda

The actual results were:

Alex is safe. Duh.
Robert is safe. He actually seems genuinely surprised (that or he's an AMAZING actor). Either way, this bodes well for him. Makes me love him even more.
Kent is safe of course. Duh
Lauren is actually safe.
Melinda is in the bottom 3. No surprise there. 1 correct guess so far.
Billy is safe. No really?
Ashley is safe. I was wrong.
Alexie is in the bottom 3. Well, I got 2 out of 3 guesses correct.
Jose is safe. Not a huge surprise.
Adéchiké is safe (he's VERY lucky to have had Travis and Kathryn)
Cristina is in the bottom 3. My topped ranked girl. But some people had sadly predicted this.

So the Bottom 3 are: Alexie, Cristina and Melinda. Three Girls. Not really a surprise though. Of course, that means 1 less All-Star Boy to pair up with now. GASP. That means potentially, we could have no Neil AND Pasha next week. Or Mark AND Pasha. Or Mark AND Neil. It's just too horrid to think about. Now there's a reason to start saving girls again next week.

The Experts:
Karine Plantadit (Tony nominee) and Keith Roberts perform an excerpt from Broadway's Come Fly Away
Song: "That's Life" - Frank Sinatra
I love Karine's dancing but I only wish it weren't the same dance they just performed on the Tony Awards. Considering they have a WHOLE SHOW OF DANCE to take from, couldn't it have been some other section? I know not many people watch the Tony Awards but still. It's probably a lot of the same crossover audience with this show.

Dance For Your Life:

Melinda Sullivan
Song: "I Got The Feelin'" - James Brown
Grade: C+
I know it's hard for a solo tapper to make their solo's look interesting but while I thought it started off decently, she looked deflated by the end.

Alexie Agdeppa
Song: "I've Been Loving You Too Long" - Otis Redding
Grade: C
She's got some decent lines but she really uses her bubbly cuteness to fill out the rest, instead of giving it a soul and passion. She didn't do much except smile and stretch her arms and legs.

Here's the video of Melinda and Alexie's solos:

Cristina Santana
Song: "La Guarachera" - Celia Cruz & Tito Puente
Grade: B
Her natural charisma seems to carry her through a not-so-great solo routine. It was good, but not great, but there's something about her.

Here's the video of Cristina's solo:

The Filler:
Usher performs "OMG". Because we hadn't already been trying to smash our brains out to get it out of our heads already. Usher is so slick when he talks, it's like he should be BP's problem. (I'll be here all night!). Okay, enough about that tragically awful yet addictive song (it's like the crack cocaine of music) so I will not talk about the previous overplayed song anymore, but um... I gotta admit... I kinda love Justin Bieber's "Somebody To Love".

Ok, you can stop laughing now.

No seriously. Stop laughing. I kinda dig the song.

The Cut:

The judges say Melinda needs to bring more fire. Cristina is told she's the only one to bring the fire but not the steps. And Alexie needs to dance more maturely, and Alexie Agdeppa is ultimately cut. My sister totally called it. I guess I should have known they would have wanted to keep the tapper on for a bit longer. They already cut tappers early last season. Still, Melinda was TERRIBLE this week while Alexie was ok, but one of the better female dancers in the Top 11. Oh well, one Asian gone... racists. (I'm kidding I'm kidding).

Tessandra Chavez is a amazing choreographer who has 2 dance companies! I hope that she will be a regular choreographer on the show.

As long as there are female contestants on the show, we'll have Pasha. He's the only game in town for ballroom.

As for Alexie, I am saddened to see her go, but it was a done deal once she was in B3 with Cristina and Melinda. This season is already heavily jazz/contempo; the judges weren't going to keep the 5th best contemporary dancer over their only ballroom girl and only tapper. (Though if Melinda's in the bottom again, she's done.)

I'm now obsessed with watching Melinda's legs after hearing the judges comments - and they really did look splayed during her solo. Which is one style of tap, I know, but I think will bring her problems in all the other dances. I would have been much happier if she were the one dropped.

I feel like I'm the only person who finds Melinda charming and doesn't see what people are talking about with her legs and her supposed pigeoned toes.
Anyway, I was okay with Alexie leaving although it's always sad seeing how emotional everyone is during these eliminations.
These 11 already seem so close - there was SO MUCH hugging going on last night.
And anybody else catch Anthony Burrell in the audience? Sigh...
The cameramen were still smoking crack before the show I see...
