American Idol - Top 6 + Matt - Performance Night - Theme: Disco Night
So Matt returns in Top 7 Redux. And Lil lives to see another round. And she sort of continues to prove the whole Southern conspiracy. That the voting from the south keeps their own in the competition. Think about it. Every winner has come from the bottom half of the country. David Cook is probably the most northern winner from Missouri (though Texan born), the others were from Texas, Alabama x 2, North Carolina, Oklahoma, and Arizona) And Lil is from Tennessee. Okay, not exactly the "south" but close enough. Do we just not pick up the phones up here in the north? (Matt's from Michigan)
Lil Rounds
23 years old
Home: Memphis, TN
Audition: Kansas City, MO
Song: "I'm Every Woman" (by Nickolas Ashford, Valerie Simpson, made famous by Chaka Khan)
Grade: D
If you take all women and average their singing ability, then yes, Lil, you are every woman. Like every week on the big stage, it was nothing spectacular and for this venue, it was almost kind of painful to hear. Seriously, it's time for her to go.
Kris Allen
23 years old
Home: Conway, AR
Audition: Louisville, KY
Song: "She Works Hard For The Money" (by Donna Summer, Michael Omartian, made famous by Donna Summer)
Grade: A
Give it to Kris to take a disco tune and make it a heartfelt tribute to womankind. While Adam always goes for big and brash to make himself interesting, Kris goes the other way, with more quiet and subdued sounds, but always with his crystal clear voice, and I think even when Adam wins this whole thing, Kris will last in the long run.
Danny Gokey
28 years old
Home: Milwaukee, WI
Audition: Kansas City, MO
Song: "September" (by Maurice White, Al McKay, Allee Willis, made famous by Earth, Wind and Fire)
Grade: B+
Well, I still find him grating but he sure knows what songs to pick to showcase his shouty vocals. This wasn't the disaster I was so sure Danny would be on disco week. Yet again, I actually didn't mind it. Despite still wanting to punch him in the face.
Allison Iraheta
16 years old
Home: Los Angeles, CA
Audition: San Francisco, CA
Song: "Hot Stuff" (by Pete Bellotte, Harold Faltermeyer, Keith Forsey, made famous by Donna Summer)
Grade: A-
Like Kris Allen, she tends to arrange things slightly under, because really, her big rocker voice is large enough to fill the song (unlike Adam who just goes big on everything). Another Donna Summer song. Another WIN! Who knew Donna Summer could be so contemporary?
Adam Lambert
26 years old
Home: Los Angeles, CA
Audition: San Francisco, CA
Song: "If I Can't Have You" (by the Bee Gees)
Grade: A-
Oh smart. Going the quiet route again. I was afraid he was going to do "Boogie Wonderland" or something. He still sang into his screaming bits but the rest was actually pretty good. I mean, I didn't believe it was actually real, but it was a good emotional performance nonetheless. Also, and I forgot to mention this last week, big improvements in his hair.
Matt Giraud
23 years old
Home: Kalamazoo, MI
Audition: Louisville, KY
Song: "Staying Alive" (by the Bee Gees)
Grade: B+
Who didn't see him singing this song? And he might have actually saved himself another week with this song. I know I know. How appropriate. I'm not even going to say it. Generally better than the last few performances he's done. I still don't love him but I think it's enough to keep him over Lil.
Anoop Desai
21 years old
Home: Chapel Hill, NC
Audition: Kansas City, MO
Song: "Dim All The Lights" - (by Donna Summer)
Grade: B
The attempt at the sexy stubble kinda made me laugh. But Randy's got a point. As much as he didn't love the arrangement, his vocals were on (except that last note) and I thought he sounded good. I was ready to tear this apart but other than his Omega Chi Delta look, I thought it wasn't that bad.
The Final Round Up:
Best of the Night: Kris Allen
Second Best of the Night: Adam Lambert
Third Best of the Night: Allison Iraheta
Fourth Best of the Night: Danny Gokey
Worst of the Night: Lil Rounds
Second Worst of the Night: Anoop Desai
Bottom Three Predictions: Anoop Desai, Matt Giraud, Lil Rounds
Going Home: Anoop Desai and Lil Rounds (she HAS to right? I've picked her FOUR WEEKS IN A ROW. Girl just won't LEAVE)

I thought Danny's performance was absolutely atrocious tonight. Why does Lil constantly get critiqued for doing karaoke while Danny does it every single week and never gets yelled at. The only thing he ever adds to a song is that horrible shouting that makes my ears bleed. I will just die if Paula's wish comes true and him and Adam are the final two. I will give even less of a shit than I did when it was between Soul Patrol and McFever (and I really didn't give a shit that year).
ReplyDeleteOh, don't get me wrong. I do NOT want a Danny Adam finale. And did ANYBODY care about Soul Patrol and McFever that year? Though if Daughtry has anything to prove, it's that Kris can have a nice career after even when he loses to Adam (sigh... it's inevitable isn't it?)
ReplyDeleteLet's see . . . Hated Danny. And I want to have sex with Kris Allen even more now.
ReplyDeleteAnd, I'm kind of ok with the fact that Adam will probably win ALTHO if you look at the history of show's like this, the obvious winner doesn't always win. Kris is the underdog for sure.
i've been really impressed with Kris for the last few episodes; he has turned himself into a real contender
