And we're back. Canadian style!
Less than a week after leaving So You Think You Can Dance season 5 behind (Jeanine Woot Woot!), and before season 6 starts again in September, CTV is quickly squeezing in the second season of our Canadian version and taking no time to waste. Though CTV was pretty much forced to start right away since FOX pretty much screwed them over with the announcement of a fall season (and then again, when they moved up the premiere date).
So maybe because I'm still a little exhausted from Season 5 of the US version, but I'm not going to do my usual comprehensive blogging about the auditions. I'll save my energies for the Top 20 (which starts on August 25th).
But some quick observations nonetheless.
There are a LOT more Asians that try out in Canada. Is that a percentage thing? I mean, there have got to be more Asians in America in numbers but maybe it seems more in Canada since we have a smaller population on the whole. Yah? Maybe?
We also have a lot of pretty blondes and brunettes girls trying out, all who start looking the same after a while, so at this point, I can't really tell you who I liked cause they're all blurring together.
And now that we're in the second season, it means we are getting a lot of repeat auditioners, but unlike Idol where I feel there usually isn't a lot of improvements in ones vocal abilities, dancers can train and learn more and tighten up their skills and a lot of the 2nd timers looked fab.
Anyways, that's all I got. I'm still pooped from blogging Season 5 so let me save my energy for the Top 20! In the meantime, the official site has posted tons of photos from the auditions.
Oh, but the hot boys... well... I'll keep watching. hehe...
I started taking notes for interesting or noteworthy auditions but then they just started to jumble altogether but I left a few that I wanted to comment on specifically:
Emanuel Sandhu, 28, Vancouver, BC - The former Olympic's figure skater and Canadian National Champion was back to audition, this time, without the diva attitude
Melanie Mah, 18, Richmond Hill, ON - An Asian girl from my hometown! JM thinks she has great musicality. My hometown! (Actually, Emanuel grew up in R. Hill too and considering how close Elvis Stojko Arena is to my parents home, I've probably seen him around)
Tatiana Parker, 20, Toronto, ON - Another finalist from last year that didn't make the Top 20 cut is back. It's nice to see a girl b-bopper but I don't find anything that special about her.
Sebastian Mersch, 19, Toronto, ON - Cute! His contemp. looks pretty good though nothing extraordinary but CUTE!
Vicky Luo, 22, Toronto, ON - The first dance in the chinese style? Probably. (Actually, Mongolia dance she says).
Brook Jones, 22, Brantford, ON - Smooth hip-hop boy. He's okay but he reminds me of a friend of mine so I'm rooting for him.
Kyle Garshore, 23, Fredericton, NB - That was the most unexpected white boy b-boppers. I thought he was going to be lyrical contemp or a disaster but he was pretty fly for a white guy!
Next week: Edmonton and Montrael Auditions, Toronto Week and the announcement of the Top 20

I imagine that the prevalence of Asians had entirely to do with the auditions being in Toronto and Vancouver. I can't imagine there will be as many in Edmonton or Montreal. But Saint John....an unlikely place for such an event, though I imagine they needed to hold one in the Maritimes, to be fair.
