When They Grew Up - life as we know it Edition

Wait a minute wait a minute JUST wait a MINUTE.

You mean this guy (Jon Foster)

from this show (life as we know it with Missy from Reaper and Piz/Dell/Chris Lowell from Private Practice, Veronica Mars and that Osbourne offspring and the undercover cop/student chick in 90210 and the hot guy that fought Cam Gigandet in that fighting movie):

has now become this guy? (with Amber Heard)

both in the new Bret Easton Ellis movie The Informers?

Whoa. What happened to the gawky geeky lovable guy and how did he turn into a smokin' hot plastique dude?

Here's the unrated (NSFW) trailer in a movie also starring a bevy of 80's and 90's stars (Kim Bassinger, Billy Bob Thornton, Winona Ryder, Mickey Rourke, Chris Isaak and Brad Renfro (in his last movie)):

Here's the extended theatrical trailer (language NSFW):

TV Bloggers Favourite New Shows

Just as I put out my list of current Top 10 shows to watch right now, Scooter McGavin put together our fellow blogger friends favourite new shows of the season (must have debuted after August 1st 2007) now that we've had several weeks to really watch them and not just base them on our initial kneejerk reaction to the pilots. Like Scooter puts it, last year most people hadn't thought about Friday Night Lights as the one to watch for (well, ahem, I did but whose counting? Though I do admit I didn't think it would last) He "tallied up all the votes and entered them into a scientific method that would make Einstein smile, and here is the list that came out the other side" :

1. Pushing Daisies - ABC (8)
2. Chuck - NBC (2)
3. Dirty Sexy Money - ABC
4. The Big Bang Theory - CBS
5. Gossip Girl - CW
6. Aliens in America - CW
7. Samantha Who? - ABC
8. Moonlight - CBS (1)
9. Reaper - CW
10. Journeyman - NBC

(numbers in parentheses denote first place votes)
Also receiving votes: Life, Woman’s Murder Club, Private Practice, Bionic Woman, Cane

Voters: Dan, Ducky, Kath, Jo, Liz, Rae, Sandie, Scooter McGavin, Tube Talk Girl, TVFan, Vance

No real big surprise with the top choices. It's interesting to compare our initial excitements and see what has lived up to expectations (Pushing Daisies, Chuck), what has surprised us (The Big Bang Theory, Gossip Girl, Aliens in America) and what is dropping (Reaper) and what is holding on to its last breathe (Bionic Woman, Cane, Private Practice).

And AHEM... again, I think I did a pretty good prediction on what would be good or not. Did I not call out the bad Cane and Bionic Woman while going out on a limb for Gossip Girl, The Big Bang Theory and Aliens in America? Hehe...

Anyways, my ballot that I submitted to Scooter was this:
1. Pushing Daisies
2. Chuck
3. Aliens in America
4. Gossip Girl
5. Samantha Who? (although I had debated back and forth between this and The Big Bang Theory)

Dirty Sexy Money would have been next. It's getting better, but it's still not there yet for me.

Chuck Versus Reaper - Halloween Edition

Chuck - Chuck Versus the Sandworm - Ep. 106
Reaper - What About Blob - Ep. 105, Leon - Ep. 106

At this point, there seems to be two camps growing. Those who think Reaper is growing into a great show while Chuck is idiotic, or those that think Chuck is turning out to be fun popcorn romp while Reaper is becoming as lazy as its slacker protagonist. To those who think neither is good, why are you even reading this anyways? So I'm not counting you in this. It doesn't work into my scenario so I'm throwing you into my denial pile. Thanks! Read my Pushing Daisies post when it gets posted in the morning! Come again!

Personally, I've been falling into the Chuck is great camp, while Reaper has sadly not come even close to my expectations. Both have endearing male, slightly geeky (in television terms at least) leads but Zachary Levi has charmed his way through outrageous (but fun) plot points, while Bret Harrison hasn't been as zingy as he was on The Loop, being more of a downer than the go getter that I fell in love with on his previous show. While I get excited and laugh while watching Chuck, I forget I've watched Reaper WHILE I'm watching it. I didn't even finish last weeks episode until I forced myself to finish it tonight.

Still, this is not to say each doesn't have points that oppose my views. Add me as another blogger who can do with much less Morgan on Chuck. He's annoying, he's not funny and the actor feels like a poor man's Seth Green. On the other hand, just as I almost skipped last weeks episode, Reaper comes out with a pretty decent one tonight when Sam and gang easily catches a soul, Leon (Patton Oswalt, bringing his Remy voice charm from the best movie of the year so far, Ratatouille (for once I agree with a self aggrandizing ads)). Well, mostly, I still fell asleep in the second half but I think that was due more to staying out late Monday night then it was the episode for once (but just this once). Still, Missy Peregrym's Andi is really bugging me. She gives no spice to the role and has a buddy/brother vibe with Sam. There's something that just doesn't work for me. Yes, I'm still not over Nikki Reed okay?

Anyways, it's Halloween and Morgan and Chuck usually dress up as a sandworm. Captain Awesome is dressed only in a fig because... well... he's AWESOME! Again, why isn't Ryan McPartlin not a main cast member? Yet Joshua Gomez is? How wrong is this?

Chuck is up against Harry Tang for the assistant manager position but he happens upon Lazslo (above), a former genius inventor, like a Q for the American government. Lazslo's escaped the government's grip and Sarah and Casey are both chasing him as Chuck is convinced once again to believe the wrong people (I know I'm gullible too but you're in the spy world Chuck. Time to be a LITTLE doubtful. This might be a negative point to add onto the Chuck list). Chuck finds out about all the bugs Casey and Sarah have planted and yet again, disobeys with everything they tell him to do, landing him in more trouble all while missing the interview at Buy More for the higher position with medical benefits. MEDICAL!

Anyways, I have no idea who is playing Lazslo (stupid CityTV ran promos over the opening guest star credits. ARGH. I hate that) but I like him a LOT and he seems really interesting and complex so I hope he comes back. Seems like they left it open enough that he will. Morgan does good by attempting to get Chuck the position in yet another attempt at trying to convince us that Morgan is sweet and worth saving, and yet again, I'll let it go again because I'm too nice, but I'm starting to be doubtful about it all (oh, maybe I'm NOT so gullible).

And yet again, Sarah, in a small heartfelt gesture, wins both our hearts and Chuck's, helping us assume she's one of the good guys. Maybe we are gullible.

On Reaper, the best part of the show, Ray Wise as the devil, convinces Sam that Andi's boy is sleeping with slutty twins (actually his sisters), and warns Sam that letting Andi in on their little secret arrangement will cause her trouble (although because Andi ends up breaking up with the boy, she and Sam are not getting along). The Devil also denies a meeting with Sam's dad, who seems to be up to something suspicious himself as he tears a page out of Sam's Soul Contract and burns it out of existence. I'm intrigued although not much seemed to be brought up this week on Leon.

I would tell you what happened at the end of Leon but again, I passed out on the couch and only remember something about Leon escaping after having talked to Sock through the snowglobe, and convinces him that he's been reformed, only he sort of hasn't. Or something. Oh well, one of these days I'll make it through a Reaper with full consciousness.

Fall TV Reviews - New Order

You probably didn't notice but I just changed the ratings in my sidebar Fall TV Preview to reflect the changing scores on the new shows, now that we've seen more than just the pilot.

It's been re-ordered again to my current ratings with the original pilot score still noted at the end.

Of course, just as I moved Reaper down the list, they actually have a pretty decent episode tonight, so again, things fluctuate and maybe it will move up again? Who knows, crazier things have happen.

Some things I was wrong and too nice, giving more shows the benefit of the doubt than I should have (Cavemen, Big Shots, Bionic Woman, Life), some shows I was right to ignore (Cane), and some have just suckered me right in (Pushing Daisies, Chuck, Aliens in America, Samantha Who?) and some shows are still laying in the balance (Dirty Sexy Money, Private Practice, Journeyman (though falling from it's higher position from before) and some have become guilty pleasures (Gossip Girl, The Big Bang Theory, Carpoolers, Moonlight (I didn't say they were GOOD guilty pleasures and may only last a few more episodes but I'll wait and see.)

That White Light You See Is The TV Set Turned On - The Canadian Thanksgiving Holiday TV Catch Up

As much as I love going away and discovering new places, I love coming back from a trip and catching up on all the TV I missed. Seriously, for a split second as I was about to die from almost falling off a horse on a Chilean mountain, I thought about the episode of Brothers & Sisters I was missing. The possibility of death (or at least getting muddy and a backache) sure puts good TV into perspective.

And now that I'm back, still bruised (Heath Ledger I'm not, I can definitely attest that I'm a city slicker, and thank god we went on the winery tour AFTER horseback riding in the mountains) and spent the day mostly catching up, here's what I loved from what I missed these past few days, in order.

Pushing Daisies - Dummy
Chuck -
Chuck Versus the Tango
Brothers & Sisters -
An American Family
Gossip Girl -
Bad News Blair
House - 97 Seconds
Desperate Housewives - Smiles of a Summer Night
Beauty and the Geek - It's Not Rocket Science
Everybody Hates Chris -
Everybody Hates Caruso
Aliens in America -
No Man Is An Island
How I Met Your Mother -
Third Wheel
Corner Gas -
Spin Cycle
Dirty Sexy Money -
The Italian Banker
Private Practice -
In Which Addison Finds the Magic
Heroes - Kindred
Journeyman - Game Three
Reaper - All Mine

Holy. Did I really just watch all that TV in just one day? (And to think it can't be done. Pushaw... now I have proof there's always time for TV! Granted, I'm still on holiday here and recovering from the 11 hour flight)

So not the greatest week again for last years faves How I Met Your Mother and Heroes (not horrible, just not superb), good episodes from Everybody Hates Chris and House (which has re-invigorated itself by switching things up finally) and yet another homerun for newcomers Chuck and Pushing Daisies, and as clichéd as it is, I still find myself immensely enjoying Gossip Girl, though I think mostly impart from Blake Lively and Penn Badgley's charms.

And as amazing and complete as the pilot episode for Pushing Daisies was, everyone I spoke to worried about where it could possibly go from there. First of all, people, just ENJOY IT for what it is. Second of all, worry no more, because wasn't the second episode just as delightful, in a totally different way? This time almost taking a horror film slant within its whimsical and odd tone.

I loved that they delved back to Ned's childhood, explaining a little bit more after his mothers death. I loved that Chuck and Ned actually kissed already and that they aren't holding them back from each other despite the fact that they can't actually touch each other. Moonlighting this is not, this goes beyond that point right away and it's a smart move. I loved that they already made Kristin Chenowith sing in a hilarious musical ode to her unrequited love for Ned. I loved that I love Chi McBride as Emerson because I found him a bit annoying on House, so it's good to see him in a good role. Next week, the aunts are back which can only mean more wackiness ensues!

As for the cast of Chuck, why isn't Ryan McPartlin as Captain Awesome not part of the regular cast? If Morgan can be, why not Captain Awesome? He who does more with 3 minutes of screen time than some can do on a whole series? Captain Awesome teaches Chuck to tango for Chuck's first mission, while Morgan gets stuck in a cage. I understand that Chuck needs one of those annoying best friends that gets him into trouble, but does he have to be so annoying? At least that's my only complaint about the show. The rest, hilarious!

Justin is alive and back in the US, injured but safe, until the Walkers come descending upon him, and gets attacked with motherly love from Nora and all his Brothers & Sisters. Kitty, Kevin and Nora also get in trouble after backtalking to a radio political shock jock that gets Senator McCalister in trouble. Rebecca reveals the truth about what happened with Joe to Sarah, while Joe is officially over with Sarah. Rebecca gets her friend a job at Ojai, who presumes Saul is gay, mistakenly outing Saul underneath Tommy's watch, before everything is swept under again. Again, I love the dynamics of the crazy Walker family which makes this show work so well. I love that Calista Flockart, Matthew Rhys, Rachel Griffiths, Dave Annable, Sally Field and Emily Vancamp actually gel on screen well together, and make it seem possible that they could actually be related. Now if only they could stick Balthazar Getty's Tommy into the mix a bit more, and it would let his character be more interesting since his scenes with the family are great, but they are few and far between, since most of the time we see him with depressing wife or at Ojai.

Allergy ridden Gossip Girl (hilarious narration from Kristen Bell) is back tracking down S and B, who this week, are trying to be friends again, then not, when Blair gets unceremoniously dumped as a model by her own mother in favour of Serena, then friends again, when Blair finds out it really wasn't Serena's fault after all. Wait, was Margaret Colin the mother in the pilot or did they just do a switcheroo? I LOVE Margaret Colin so I think I would have noticed if she was in the pilot. Anyways. LOVE Mararet Colin (from the cancelled-too-fast-gem Now and Again with Dennis Haysbert (24, Far From Heaven) and Eric Close (Without a Trace)) so I like that they seem to be filling the adult roles with some good pedigree (including Peter O'Brien (UK's Queer as Folk) as the photographer). Meanwhile, Nate is having his poor-little-rich-boy crisis and with the help of former-rich-boy-hippie, loses a lot of money in a con poker game much to Chuck's objections. (Seriously, what's with all the Chuck's in this years best new shows?)

Like I mentioned before, House has totally revitalized itself by throwing all these wannabe ducklings into the mix, and Foreman with his own set at a different hospital. I've always liked Olivia Wilde (The OC, Skin) and Kal Penn (Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle) so I'm glad they are finally on a good show that gives them a chance for more, especially now that they will be permanently added to the cast. The best episodes of House were always the ones where they mix things up from their usual disease-of-the-week where House solves it 10 minutes before the end of the hour, and while the addition of new ducklings will probably end up doing the same, the audition process sure was fun.

Ditto with Desperate Housewives, with the addition of bitchy old/new neighbour Katherine Mayfair (Dana Delaney) and the bonus of husband played by Nathan Fillion has added a nice new mystery to Wisteria Lane. They've also grouped the housewives back together again, making sure they all intermingle, which has always been the strength of the show. While the men (a great group of guys Doug Savant, Kyle MacLachlin, Nathan Fillion, James Denton) have mostly been relegated to the sidelines (with the exception of Carlos' Edie marriage proposal's storyline), all seems right again on Desperate Housewives and it's finally landed in the right balance of an enjoyable show again.

Between Rebecca being with studly Sam and Will's constant winning bloating his ego, everyone is out to get them on Beauty and the Geek. It's viewers favorite competition week and the Beauties must make a bottle rocket while the Geeks must give the beauties a message. Thankfully, Jesse wins the massage, enabling them to enact revenge on Will and Rebecca (paybacks a bitch), while Sam wins the rocket launch contest and puts up Will (the other one) and Jennifer assuming they would easily be beat. Sam was wrong and Will (the good one) while gloating, is adorably put into place by partner Jen, to not let it get to his head. That's how Will (the evil one) was antagonized in the first place. Justice is served and just before next week's makeover episode! Yey! It's my favorite episode! Who doesn't love Pygmalion?

Everybody hates Caruso when the Chinese kid beats him up, taking out the sole bully from the school. However, chaos ensues when the natural order of the school falls apart as everyone becomes a bully and Chris must fix it before Everybody Hates Chris. Rochelle makes Julius take his vacation days, but Julius being Julius, secretly takes on a job as a delivery man. Okay, I know the Emmy's are generally whitewashed and only award black actors on white shows, but it's time to stop the insanity and take notice of Terry Crews and Tichina Arnold who are really the heart and soul of this show, and can balance between heartfelt emotion to over-the-top hilarity all in the same scene.

While we've already seen almost everything on this second episode of Aliens in America, when Justin really gets the blunt of social rejection for being connected to Raja, I couldn't help but laugh at Dan Byrd who really is terrific as the social outcast on the show. Adhir Kalyan plays Raja sweetly naively and bonus points for being naked in the locker room. And while the accent is a little annoying, I've got to hand it to Amy Pietz, who if I hadn't seen doing theatre, would have written her off from her Caroline in the City days, because she and Scott Patterson (there really IS life after Luke's Diner!) work really well together as the Tolchuk parentals.

I think I should have laughed a little more on How I Met Your Mother, as Ted finds himself in a possible position as the third wheel in a threesome between former dates (Danica McKellar, Busy Phillips). Barney is hilarious TALKING about the threesome but is it not weird that technically, future Ted is telling his KIDS this story? I know. I'm thinking WAY too much but it occurred to me during the show and then it creeped me out. This is one to boast to your friends (maybe), but NOT your kids. Oh the horror. At least Robin was on a funnier storyline as she dates a British doctor and realising she needs to shave part way through the good date (just watch, it makes sense on the show).

Lacey is asked to do model nude for the local ladies charity calendar, Hank teaches a spinning class (!??!) where Karen becomes a teachers pet and Wanda gets a cordless phone for Corner Gas. Somehow Brent and Co. makes this REALLY funny. I love the dry Canadian sense of humour but I do wonder how this will do on American syndication?

Okay, Samaire Armstrong is the best thing of Dirty Sexy Money. There. I said it. I was worried at first that her character would be one note (even though all her other characters have always been fully fleshed out smart girls), but no matter how many dimensions (or lack there of) Juliet has, Samaire is ridiculously funny with her. As funny as the mean priest Brian is, I'm getting a little tired of it all, and the slow serious parts of the show still lag the pacing a little but I'm still liking this show even though it still feels like it's trying to find it's own footing. Maybe Blair Underwood will help, if he actually shows up in person.

Meanwhile, the best part of Private Practice this week is Paul Adelstein in a butterfly costume playing with little girls. Somehow it's not as creepy as it sounds, much to Paul's credit. I love me some Audra McDonald but maybe they should take a note from lead-in show Pushing Daisies and let the Broadway star sing instead of making her eat cake all episode. You'd think this show was written by men and not lead by a woman. What is this? Womens Wear Daily?

While I didn't hate Heroes this week, I just don't really remember anything from it except Milo's large eyes as he pushes his hands into the air and Claire and emo-boy-Thomas Dekker-replacement flying in the sky. Nikki is back, the new latinos escape from jail, Mohinder gets Issac's studio, remade into a lab, and Hiro makes sure Kensei becomes a hero and thus loses his love. Blah Blah blah... Oh yeah. and Sylar is alive and being nursed by a company.

Journeyman had a neat concept, by sending Dan back to San Francisco during game three of the world series when the earthquake shook the city. He keeps returning, assuming he needs to save people from the quake, but of course, things are never as they seem. It was good but this episode could have been exceptional, and by actually personalising the story to the man he had to save, it actually decreased the interest somehow. Luckily, they have Kevin McKidd in the lead so I'll keep on this journey for now.

I find myself wanting to really like Reaper especially because of Bret Harrison and Tyler Labine, but I find myself always getting a little bored partway through every episode so far, and while Sam contends with wasting his future, I always feel reminded that I'm wasting my time watching TV (which, as a TV lover, I should not feel like). I know most people seem to be loving this show but I feel like a slacker while watching these slackers reap evils-of-the-week. I feel more productive when I watch The Real World. Yet I still have this devotion in trying to love this show and there are parts I do, but it's not becoming the love affair I thought it would be. I think part of it is that I don't buy the girl boy relationships. No way would Josie have gone out with Socks, and no way would her lawyer boss have just acted so casually upon meeting him, and while I could understand smart Andi toiling away at something beneath her, something still feels off about that storyline. I don't buy it quite yet. I'm hoping there's more to the explanations.

So there you go, I'm back, I'll be back on my normal work schedule on Monday and as of now, I play catch up with life and TV, which sometimes is one and the same!

Pies, Lies, Tux and Ties, Geeks, Freaks and Ivy League Chic

Pushing Daisies - Pie-lette
Gossip Girl -
Poison Ivy
Beauty and the Geek - Double Dare
Dancing With The Stars - Results Week 2
Reaper - Charged
Bones - Soccer Mom in the Mini-Van
House - The Right Stuff

Okay Canada, so did you not fall in love with Pushing Daisies' Lee Pace's Ned? And Anna Friel's Chuck? Because if you didn't, we need to talk. I may have to restrict your universal health care access since you obviously have no heart so no point in wasting our tax dollars.

America, you're next (on Wednesday night). Though I have no universal health care system to block you from if you start hattin' on my beloved Pushing Daisies. I'll discuss more when America gets to watch it.

It's Tuesday and geeks are abound and cute as ever in Bones and Beauty and the Geek and amusing at times in Reaper where Bret Harrison's chasing the freaks. Ivy League chic rules on Gossip Girl, but being a pretty boy isn't enough on the Dancing (with the Stars) floor. Did I mention how funny Bones is? House too! (Recaps and comments after the jump)

I will never claim that Gossip Girl will ever be art or subtle but there's a nice rapport between Blake Lively's Serena and her brother Eric (Connor Paolo), something that actually seems honest and grounded, between all the catfights and gossip. Chuck happens to see Serena walk into the Ostroff Centre (natch) and tells Blair right away, assuming Serena is an alcoholic.

It's Ivy League suck up time, as the university's are sending their reps, and it's time to put those donations, er, grades to work. Dan applies and is denied the Dartmouth representative chaperone position, which is given to failing Nate, arranged all from daddy more-bucks "Captain" Archibald (Sam Robards, above with Chace Crawford's Nate Archibald), despite Nate wanting to go west. Blair, bitchy as usual, uses her newfound information to announce to all the Ivy Leaguers of Serena's alcolhol problem. Only for Eric to confess to Blair what the truth was, leaving Serena (and me) shocked. Will she use this new information for good or evil, asks Gossip Girl? Guess we will have to see...Is that Blair seemingly apologetic? Or just her face stuck in the same position?

The Beauty and the Geeks play truth of dare, and Rebecca (Beauty) and Sam (Male Beauty) make out. A lot. Not faciliated by a dare. The beauty's must learn the parts of the human anatomy, while the geeks need to shop and create a perfect picnic basket. Both Rebecca and Will win both competitions leaving them the sole team to nominate. Sadly, they pick two of my favorite teams, Jesse and Natalie (above, both are just too cute), and Hollie (Betty Boop girl) and Josh (below, who along with Luke, is one decent haircut and contacts away from being a hottie, think Rachel Leigh Cook in She's All That or Anne Hathaway in The Princess Diaries). The first 7 questions are answered correctly and it comes down to Josh, who sadly, is incorrect on the most useless of questions (who would remember what anniversary you give leather on?). So long Betty Boop.

We also say so long to Albert Reed from Dancing with the Stars, male model and all round goofball (kinda geeky but it's endearing). WHY??? America has this whole love/hate thing with pretty boys don't they? They voted them off Big Brother, and now they voted off the Ambercrombie and Fitch model. Over Wayne Newton. Seriously?

Reaper, falling into the baddie of the week like I feared, must this week chase after a demon that stole power, and gets a radio controlled toy truck to somehow reap the evil power suit after the box carrying the reaping vessel keeps following Sam (which, actually, was stupid funny, I love me a good pratfall). Tyler Labine's Socks was annoying funny as his usual idiotic self (essentially a continuation of his sidekick-to-future-Oscar-nominee-Ryan-Gosling role on Breaker High) and Sam's dad (the captain from Breaker High! I can never mention that show enough times!) buys off Sam with a new Prius (electric... hmm... the same week he's chasing someone that stole electricity...) while Sam frets about not telling his mom that he's still the Reaper.

Ray Wise still rocks as The Devil, but the episode already seemed a little slower than the pilot, which I didn't completely fall in love with like everyone else seemed to. Between Chuck and Reaper, I find Chuck has seemed to find a better rhythm and is funnier with a faster beat but Reaper still has its moments, but they really need to write better solutions to the actual reaping.

So far Reaper is 2 for 2 in almost getting the baddie, thinking its safe, its not, then the vessel ends up sucking the baddie for real. Okay for now but could get tiresome fast and Bret Harrison had better hair on The Loop so I'll have to see about this...

Over on Fox, how funny was Bones and House? A soccer mom gets blown up on Bones and a sexy new bomb expert takes Hodgins eyes off Angela, but in what would be a sad play at enhancing some soap opera drama, becomes a cute game of trust between the oh-so-cute Angela and Hodgins. Zach is still adorably geeky ("those are mine" telling the bomb squad girl to stay away from his bugs!) and Booth and Bones continue their zippy raport as we find out the soccer mom was a former radical protestor wanted for the murder of a security guard in a heist-gone-wrong.

House continues his interviews to replace his 3 ducklings, with 40 numbered candidates to start, having all of them run through the hoops like a giant reality show audition. In the competition includes Kal Penn (Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle) and Olivia Wilde (The OC) but all House sees are Foreman, Chase and Cameron... dream? hallucination or are they really back?

I think House works strongest when it goes AGAINST its usual disease-of-the-week procedural or when they put a big giant twist to it, like this episode as we see tons of ducklings-wannabe's attempting to figure out what House wants while solving the case of a fighter pilot (which really, was probably the least important part of this episode).

All around, a good night, though I'm not sure I can keep up every Tuesday... whew... that felt a bit like a marathon there...

Reaper - Take Away The N and 2 K's, Add an M and 2 S'

Pilot

Oh, and swap and I for a Y. So it was pretty much the same as the original pilot I saw, except they just refilmed all the scenes originally with Nikki Reed with Missy Peregrym except brighter and more clear. Couldn't they at least try to match the film quality and lighting and hire the same cinematographer? (I don't know if they did or not but it seemed very blatant which scenes were new and which were not).

Anyways. as I feared, Missy played it slightly blandly, without the calm sultryness Nikki Reed always brings to her roles. I like Missy and I want to support Canadian actors (go Tyler Labine and father guy who was the captain who co-starred with Tyler on Breaker High!) but I feel Missi plays it more as one of the guys and thus more accessible (and thus less drama and obstacles to bring Sam and her together), whereas Nikki played it cool and a girl seriously out of Sam's reach yet she's still nice to him, thus, even more special. Oh well, we're stuck with Missy now. Guess we'll have to make the best of it.

Full cast pictures (that I hadn't posted in the original review) after the jump:

Bret Harrison

Missy Peregrym

Tyler Labine

Ray Wise

Reaper and Weap - Tuesday's TV Tetris Game Begins

It's Tuesday and while Gossip Girl started last week for us in Canada, tonight is when everything really starts up again with returning faves, new show Reaper, and the second episode of Gossip Girl, which is when shows REALLY get into their groove (or not) and we can determine if the shows are keepers or it's time to toss them out.

Reaper starts tonight and while I didn't love it as much as almost all the other bloggers, I didn't hate it as much as Scooter, though I have some of the same issues he does but I think I'm being nice and giving the show a few more chances. Still, I do recommend watching the pilot, because it is pretty funny and I'm a big fan of Bret Harrison who I think is hilarious and Ray Wise is just too cool/evil that he's fun to watch as The Devil.

I guess we will see how this new pilot with Missi Peregrym replacing Nikki Reed holds up. As for the rest of the night...

I thought there wasn't going to be much but I just realised Bones and House starts tonight (on Fox/Global starting at 8pm) and while I love Bones, I was going to drop House until I saw the picture below, with House looking for new ducklings. Hilarious. (Thanks Sandie for letting me steal the pic!) . Yes, Duckling #6 is Kal Penn, better known as Kumar (who went to White Castle with Harold (John Cho, who will appear in Ugly Betty but I'll save that excitement for my post on Thursday)).

I was also going to drop Boston Legal (ABC/E!CH at 9:30pm) after they dropped Julie Bowen but I'll probably see how John Laroquette does (below with the heavyweights). Boston Legal starts with a special 1.5 hour that follows the Mens night (!) on Dancing with the Stars (ABC/CTV at 8pm - 9:30pm). Plus I'm kinda excited about Beauty and the Geek (The CW/City 8pm) again after watching last weeks premiere over the weekend. And in Canada, CTV is showing new Gossip Girl at 7pm.

And to think, Pushing Daisies hasn't even started yet (on CTV in Canada on Tuesdays starting next week).

Oh, and Cane starts tonight too (CBS/Global 10pm) but I dare you to watch at that late of an hour. Considering I almost passed out watching while eating lunch at the office, I don't think the late hour will help the plodding drama.
