Fall TV Preview - Chucks and Pies

Chuck and Pushing Daisies. Two new shows with incredibly appealing leads with slightly geeky tendencies. Deserved leads after standing out in previous shows (Less Than Perfect and Wonderfalls). Both have characters named Chuck in them. Both have images of pies in the pilots. One looks stylistically overdone and fake on purpose, the other is stylistically real and almost prosaic on purpose.

Both have amazing pilots.

I'll have the reviews up for the pilots hopefully later today. I just wanted to mention my strange thought process as I watched them back to back yesterday.

Reviews for Pushing Daisies and Chuck are up.

Oh Who Are We Kidding, We Just Want To See The Ridiculous Costumes And The "Stars" Embarrass Themselves

I have no idea who Albert Reed is but based on the photos (more after the jump), I may have to watch Dancing with the Stars for just a bit now. Plus Jennie Garth!

Plus I've always liked Cameron Mathison from All My Children. It amuses me that he went to the same school (McGill University) and faculty (Engineering) as I did (though I'm not an engineer, long story but McGill categorizes things a little differently) and then became a soap opera star. I like that he actually finished his degree in Civil Engineering (wait. He went to Thornlea High School? I used to pass it everyday on my way to MY High School).

ABC announced the rest of the cast, which includes people my mother knows: Marie Osmond, Jane Seymour and Wayne Newton, the WHO? Sabrina Bryan, Helio Castroneves, Josie Maran, Floyd Mayweather, and they WHY? I thought we got rid of them once and for all: Mark Cuban and Melanie "Scary Spice" Brown (though I AM considering getting tickets to their upcoming tour!).

This is Albert Reed. Enough said.

And more of Cameron Mathison

Big Brother Trifecta - Blonde Ambitions and Pulling The Right (Nipple) StRings

I had been deferring my judgement on Jessica because I wasn't sure I totally liked that she was riding on Eric's coattails and avoiding eviction week after week. She seemed like the least objectionable person left in the house (save for maybe Jameka but maybe it's because God's on her side) but did she really deserve to win the game for essentially flirting with Eric and lucking out in the game? I mean, I've already had enough people winning for riding coattails of "better" players with Boogie winning last year (and Lisa and Drew in previous years).

Tonight's mostly uneventful episode finally convinced me that Jessica might just be the brains of the operation, having used Eric to her advantage as her shield while she quietly sat in her bed gently tugging at the right strings. Who knew?

God hasn't been helping Amber (Amber. You know you DID dis Jewish people and his son's a Jew you know, God and Evil Dick are both protective of their children), but Jameka tries to convince the big guy to help save them. Jessica adds that she's actually religious too, just not in the house, you know, cause it's not her strategy, yo. She's using the little guy instead.

So both nominees Amber and Zach still think they are safe from elimination and have a connection to Eric and Jessica. Eric still thinks there's a trust with Daniele and Dick. Jameka trusts in God but hey, who can knock her alliance at this point since she's still in the game? Jessica doesn't really trust Daniele or Dick, at least less than Zach and Amber and secretly hopes to backdoor Daniele. Ba-Ding! We have a light in the house!

So the Golden Power of Veto is up for grabs and everyone is playing except Dick. In a sort of hide-and-seek Jeopardy, they are given the answer to a riddle they must find hidden within the backyard. It comes down to Amber, Zach and Eric as the last three, but since Eric's a dolt, he doesn't let Amber or Zach win it, thus letting them take themselves off the block, forcing Jessica to backdoor Dick or Daniele. No, Eric tries and WINS the whole damn thing for the first time in his valiant effort to feel manly while his woman is still in reign.

Then there's some rant Eric gives. Something about Dick controlling Daniele during her reign as HOH but Eric would NEVER do such a thing and allow Jessica full control while she's in the HOH position. There's some heterosexual kissy kissy under the lights between Jessica and Eric, then Eric is told by America to go and kiss Jessica and zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Amber and Zach do the obligatory sly suck up to Eric and Jessica realises that NOW is the time to break up Daniele and Dick but Eric ignores her (smart) advice and keeps the nominations as is... zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. Apparently Jessica didn't pull hard enough this time.

So the calm before the storm was actually the boring before the more boring as Eric refuses to stir the pot this week and we don't get another Dick meltdown.

More interesting was this excerpt from Entertainment Weekly's interview with Jen:
EW: You said to people in the house that you felt when Daniele was on slop, Big Brother gave everyone more days off than they did when you were on slop.
Jen: I think that was just because sometimes we get a meal for random reasons — like we got locked out for too long or the veto competition went on a really long time... It's just that every time Daniele happened to be on slop, somehow in the middle of the week we got a free slop day. I didn't really mind, because obviously she shouldn't be on slop because she would die. But I was never on slop with her, so it was just weird to see. But whatever.

I'm actually going to miss Jen. Can we just focus on the sequester house now? With Dustin probably basking in the sun and Jen and her unitard.

ModFab will be back Thursday where they hopefully will show some of the sequester house, and ModFab will also cover Sunday while QTA returns later that week to cover hopefully what will be a full our war to get Daniele and Dick out.

My Boys - Ryan Reynolds

Douchebag in the City - Does not refer to Ryan Reynolds, just a part he plays...

Did anybody catch Ryan Reynolds in his cameo on My Boys last night? What's up with that? I was excited but then, it was really only one scene.

Then they had to go into a spoof of Sex and the City which was part hilarious and part sad (because they had to spoof something 5 years too late) .

Meanwhile his new movie The Nines, opening this weekend, is getting some good reviews so far. Plus it stars Gilmore Girls Melissa McCarthy (Sookie!)! and Hope Davis! You know, cause that's the only reason I would want to see it.

Considering he's actually slowly building some respectability (uh. seriously. maybe not), I'm surprised he went back to TV right now, since I'm still trying to shake him off from the 2 Guys and a Pizza Place days (which I actually did love in the same way I love Saved By The Bell).

Maybe J.K. Rowling Will Gamble Away All Her Money And She Will Have To Write Another Harry Potter Novel...

I forgot to mention. I FINALLY finished reading Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. FINALLY. I did it this slowly partly because I wanted to prolong the experience since I knew there was going to be no new Harry Potter ever again (maybe?) and partly because I'm a slow reader. Okay?

I know. Everyone else finished more than a month ago. I'm a little SLOW. Anyways, it was completely... (spoilers ahead though at this point, I think I was the last holdout)

FANTASTIC. I loved the whole thing. I loved how she ended it. I loved how Harry was the last Horcrux. I even loved the camping scenes in-between to buy time to prolong the year out. I loved that Snape was good (I KNEW IT!) I loved that Luna is Luna! LOVED IT! I loved that Oliver Wood returns!

Seriously though, how are they going to make a 2-2.5 hour movie out of that? Unlike the other books, it was entirely dense with plot. Plus, I'm sure NOW they wish they covered a bit more about S.P.E.W. since it was a plot point?

Anyways, I'm satisfied with the ending and that it's over but still a little sad. I think I'll have to start from the beginning again, but never will we get to read a brand new Harry Potter book again. Maybe someone should take J.K. Rowling to Vegas...

New Rent To Pay

Man. This really is happening.

RENT. Reinvented.

I'm still totally appalled and totally intrigued at the same time. Plus with my recent revisit to the original, with original Mark and Roger (Anthony Rapp and Adam Pascal) I'm actually thinking this updated version might actually be a good thing still (basically because Rapp and Pascal were the best things about the show now while other things have gotten slightly dated and clunky).

Shoot, I'm in London but I'm fricken 2 days early. ARGH... Tickets are mostly general seating. WHAT?

Still, for a reinvention, the cast does sure seem very pale. Especially considering the original was pretty good at being diverse. Maybe it's a British thing?

Fall TV Preview - Reaper - Pilot Training

Reaper - Original Pilot - directed by Kevin Smith
Premieres Tuesday September 25th, 9pm, The CW and Citytv

Okay so I know I swore off The CW when it cancelled Veronica Mars (as well as Everwood) but hmm...but there are three shows on The CW schedule that have made enough waves that I figure I should check them out before I completely dismiss the entire network (save for Supernatural and Everybody Hates Chris). One of the three is Reaper (the other two being Aliens in America and Gossip Girl), which with the combination of a pilot directed by Kevin “Degrassi fan” Smith and the main lead Sam is played by Bret Harrison (The Loop), gave the show a lot of potential.

Throw in a cast of Tyler Labine (Invasion) as the crazy slacker best friend (a role he so valiantly played to Ryan Gosling in the genius that is Breaker High (the epitome of “so bad it’s good” and made Saved By The Bell look like Shakespeare) and oddly enough, the Captain plays Sam's dad here), Ray Wise (Twin Peaks) as The Devil and the always lovely Nicki Reed as Andi, the girl Sam adores… oh wait. Nicki Reed has been replaced by Missy Peregrym (Heroes).

The pilot version that I saw still had Nicki Reed and she was one of my favourite things in the show, so as much as like Missy (mainly for being in life as we know it and being Canadian), the recasting is already annoying me.

The show is basically about Sam, a slacker who works at The Work Bench (a blue version of Home Depot) whose soul had been sold by his parents and must now work for The Devil helping him capture escaped evil souls, all while trying to get the girl. Simple and the show might get pretty repetitive with another baddie-of-the-week that needs to be reaped (?is that a word?) but thankfully with Bret Harrison, things are pretty amusing and there are clever touches (like using a Dirt Devil Dust Buster as a tool to suck the souls back to hell).

As a huge fan of Bret Harrison from The Loop, I’ll keep watching anything he’s in for now, and I’m glad Tyler Labine gets another chance at a network show. Ray Wise still emenating creepiness since his Twin Peaks days, is fun to watch as The Devil and while the pilot I saw (which has since been revised) was a lot of fun, I’m wondering if it will devolve into the tediousness of Smallville after they try to switch up the baddie-of-the-week routine when that starts getting old?

Based on the original pilot, I’ll give it a 3 (***) for now (It would have gotten a 3.5 if Nicki Reed were still in it). Not quite the slam dunk I hoped it would be but still thoroughly entertaining though I'm not sure how much I would want to tune in week after week yet (except for Bret's facial expressions)

Here's the old promo that still has Nicki Reed in it, but Scooter has the newer version with Missy, and he seems even more annoyed at the recasting than I am.

The ABC's of Promo's for Promo's

How come I never knew about this?

Here's a teaser for Lost by David LaChapelle for Channel 4 in the UK back before it had its debut there. If it was before the show started, I think it makes the whole thing even more confusing but knowing what we know now, it's a pretty cool video. Plus I already miss Charlie as well as Walt, Boone... etc. etc. etc...

Thanks to AfterElton for the headsup.

Rory Gilmore's Boys

I knew once the floppy hair was gone, I could take him more seriously. Though I did like him as Jesse on Rory's bad boy paramour.

Of course here I am helping Heroes promotion again just as I was saying it didn't need any more promotion on The TV Addict.

Onto Rory's first love, I finally saw the Supernatural episode Hollywood Babylon that has the great line about seeing the stars of Gilmore Girls as the Winchester brothers take a tour of a Hollywood backlot and we pan on Jared Padalecki, who was Dean on Gilmore Girls, rival to Jesse (Milo Ventimiglia).

By the way, how tall is Jared anyways? He towered over the folks from High School Musical at last nights Teen Choice Awards. Look at him crouching down to Vanessa Hudgens (ZAC. EFRON. OMG!) (BTW, I ended up buying those tickets to see High Schoool Musical on tour. OMG I CAN'T WAIT!).

More Milo pics after the jump.
