House - He Builds The House But Still...

Alone - Season 4 Premiere

As much as I love Hugh Laurie as House, and the fact that he IS the show, last nights episode proved that he still needs his ducklings to bounce off of. I mean that both within the show, as the character House, and as a show House.

Loved that Wilson was able to torture House by taking his guitar ransom, and that House retaliated by deleting everything on his Tivo (OH NO YOU DID ENT... That might have just gone too far). Did House also throw the remote out the window? I couldn't see it clearly.

Anyways, Cuddy is still on House's back, Wilson is still being House's best friend by playing tough love, or as much as he could try and... well... that was it. The ducklings Chase, Cameron and Foreman are MIA still, as Cuddy and Wilson try to force House into hiring new ducklings, which he seems to give into finally at the end (and ready for the next episode).

The case of the week was of a girl from a building collapse who also seemed to have every other symptom/problem around, unknowing to the girl's fiance (Conor Dubin, so good in the never aired pilot The Singles Table) and mother. Which meant her whole life was a lie to them and that she never really loved the fiance.

Only the big twist is, they had the wrong victim in the first place. More importantly, what the heck was with that whole building collapse? From the way it was first filmed, I thought it was some spoof on The Office at first.

Dancing Hunks and Rapping Geeks

Beauty and the Geek - First Elimination
Dancing with the Stars - Men's Night

Alright, I love me some geek. Like I said before. I've barely ever mentioned it before but I secretly watch almost all the episodes of Beauty and the Geek when they play on repeat here on the cable channels in Canada. Then since there was nothing really on last week, I tuned in (and finished the rest of the episode over the weekend) and I'm already looking forward to the makeover episode where the geeks turn into chic thanks to the help of the beauties. Love that episode! I think John (above with Natalie) will make the best hottie transformation. (I think Luke and Jesse are almost halfway there already, just need better haircuts, pictures below, after the jump).

So this year, they added the twist of Sam and Nicole, the male beauty (who seriously, is inadvertently hilarious) and the female geek. Except, she looks totally like the Hollywood stick a bun in her hair and glasses on an attractive actress girl to signify geekdom. Her makeover will probably be pretty easy. The fact that she speaks like half my college friends and is seems pretty smart and grounded makes her a geek... hey... wait a minute...

Okay. I know I'm a geek too (though nowhere NEAR the L.A.R.K. David is, above with Jasmine) but last week, as they tested the beauties, I too had no idea what some of those large words they had to read. Maybe I have a little beauty in myself too! (shut up)

So after the Beauties were tested on their political skills in a debate (uh, seriously, maybe I am a beauty, because I scored one of the lowest possible when I was forced to do that in high school) and Sam, the man, won after model posing during the first round, but then counter arguing a clever rebuttal against Shay, who wasn't half bad herself (at least compared to all the other girls).

The geeks had to learn to rap and perform in front of (cough) Oscar winners Three 6 Mafia. John almost won it but Will (not William, above with Jennifer) got the prize in the end.

This left Sam, Nicole, Will and Rebecca safe, and they vote for Tony (awww) and Amanda, and Natalie and John up for elimination and Tony and Amanda lose (after getting more difficult questions that even Natalie called it out during the competition). Oh well, Tony who was so adorable and cried to Amanda explaining his shyness almost made me teary... (shut up. again).

Over on Dancing with the Stars, I just missed Cameron Mathison's dance, but I caught Helio somethingoranother (the race car driver) and he was pretty good (and apparently the best man of the night). Not excellent here but again, I have So You Think You Can Dance on the brain. Still, just watching him I knew he's be safe for a while and giving Sabrina (and apparently Mel C.) and run for their bootyshaking moneymaker.

I also caught model Albert Reed's dance... and I was just as dumbfounded as the judges. I have no description except it was... weird. It wasn't bad. It wasn't really good. They knew he was hot so they knew to exploit that with his open shirt and face mugging. His steps were godawful but this is Dancing with the Stars and we grade on a curve so it wasn't the worst and still better than other "stars". Essentially, they just need to work in a strip into the routine every week and he'll carry through for a few weeks at least. It worked for Dmitry (oh I kid. he was a fantastic dancer).

Rebecca and Will

Shay and Joshua

Hollie and Josh

Jennifer and William

Jesse and Natalie

Bones - The Case of the Missing Squint

The Widow's Son in the Windshield - Season 3 Premiere

What? They didn't catch the killer at the end of the episode? What's going on here? As much as I'm so over procedurals and prefer the serial series with arching storylines, I do come to Bones seeking some closure each episode, since the over arching storylines in Bones are about the personal lives on Bones, Booth and the Squints.

Well, actually, they sort of caught a killer. A human eating killer who is part of some society of cannibals, who has been killing off young people (tastier) including a violonist whose skull fell over an overpass and smashed into a car driving below. WHA??? Ew.

More importantly, Bones refuses to hire a replacement for Zack (Eric Millegan, who I didn't realise was part of the TR Knight, NPH gang) who is off in Iraq and Bones refuses to leave the lab, frustrating Booth. The lovely Angela (Michaela Conlin) must find the husband she married so blistfully and naively years ago while on vacation, so that she can officially get a divorce to marry a newly shorn Hodgins (T.J. Thyne). First of all, Michaela Conlin is GORGEOUS. Plus either her, or how she plays Angela, is so angelic that you can't help but love everything about her, even when she does marry a big black tanker of a man while on vacation and FORGET HIS NAME (well, she remembered it had a B in it! ha!). Second, T.J was always deceptively good looking, previously always hiding under that big wig of curly hair, but now with the short cut, those blue eyes are PIERCING. Hot DAMN!

Anyways, while the team is coming to a wall on furthering a case, in come ZACK!!! Shaved military head and all! Back looking to join the team (YEY! As if he were ever really going to be gone) and he of course, figures things out very quickly! YEY! ZACK'S BACK! (Though I still kinda miss the swoopy hair).

And then no real resolution as we have probably come to this years season long overarching mystery (wait. Is this Veronica Mars?)

Reaper - Take Away The N and 2 K's, Add an M and 2 S'

Pilot

Oh, and swap and I for a Y. So it was pretty much the same as the original pilot I saw, except they just refilmed all the scenes originally with Nikki Reed with Missy Peregrym except brighter and more clear. Couldn't they at least try to match the film quality and lighting and hire the same cinematographer? (I don't know if they did or not but it seemed very blatant which scenes were new and which were not).

Anyways. as I feared, Missy played it slightly blandly, without the calm sultryness Nikki Reed always brings to her roles. I like Missy and I want to support Canadian actors (go Tyler Labine and father guy who was the captain who co-starred with Tyler on Breaker High!) but I feel Missi plays it more as one of the guys and thus more accessible (and thus less drama and obstacles to bring Sam and her together), whereas Nikki played it cool and a girl seriously out of Sam's reach yet she's still nice to him, thus, even more special. Oh well, we're stuck with Missy now. Guess we'll have to make the best of it.

Full cast pictures (that I hadn't posted in the original review) after the jump:

Bret Harrison

Missy Peregrym

Tyler Labine

Ray Wise

Reaper and Weap - Tuesday's TV Tetris Game Begins

It's Tuesday and while Gossip Girl started last week for us in Canada, tonight is when everything really starts up again with returning faves, new show Reaper, and the second episode of Gossip Girl, which is when shows REALLY get into their groove (or not) and we can determine if the shows are keepers or it's time to toss them out.

Reaper starts tonight and while I didn't love it as much as almost all the other bloggers, I didn't hate it as much as Scooter, though I have some of the same issues he does but I think I'm being nice and giving the show a few more chances. Still, I do recommend watching the pilot, because it is pretty funny and I'm a big fan of Bret Harrison who I think is hilarious and Ray Wise is just too cool/evil that he's fun to watch as The Devil.

I guess we will see how this new pilot with Missi Peregrym replacing Nikki Reed holds up. As for the rest of the night...

I thought there wasn't going to be much but I just realised Bones and House starts tonight (on Fox/Global starting at 8pm) and while I love Bones, I was going to drop House until I saw the picture below, with House looking for new ducklings. Hilarious. (Thanks Sandie for letting me steal the pic!) . Yes, Duckling #6 is Kal Penn, better known as Kumar (who went to White Castle with Harold (John Cho, who will appear in Ugly Betty but I'll save that excitement for my post on Thursday)).

I was also going to drop Boston Legal (ABC/E!CH at 9:30pm) after they dropped Julie Bowen but I'll probably see how John Laroquette does (below with the heavyweights). Boston Legal starts with a special 1.5 hour that follows the Mens night (!) on Dancing with the Stars (ABC/CTV at 8pm - 9:30pm). Plus I'm kinda excited about Beauty and the Geek (The CW/City 8pm) again after watching last weeks premiere over the weekend. And in Canada, CTV is showing new Gossip Girl at 7pm.

And to think, Pushing Daisies hasn't even started yet (on CTV in Canada on Tuesdays starting next week).

Oh, and Cane starts tonight too (CBS/Global 10pm) but I dare you to watch at that late of an hour. Considering I almost passed out watching while eating lunch at the office, I don't think the late hour will help the plodding drama.

Suddenly, I'm Going To Post This Now

Just because I love me some Kerry Butler and there was this interview with her from Broadway.com (that AfterElton brought to my attention the one day I don't check that site) I'm going to do it today.

I've been watching the clip with Kerry Butler and Curtis Holbrook from the Broadway in Bryant Park from this past summer a few too many times. I love that he brings a more skaterboyness to the role of Sonny Malone in Xanadu's "Suddenly".

However, Cheyenne Jackson rocked the role, and they were on The View two weeks ago performing the same song "Suddenly" (video after the jump). So cute. Love this song. Love when they do that quick twisty fingers touching moment. LOVE Kerry's fake Australian accent. Seriously. It's worth the price of admission alone.

I hope they figure out what to do with the cast recording soon because as much as I adore the original version with Olivia Newton John, I want to hear the new one with Cheyenne Jackson and Kerry Butler (who so rocked the Hairspray Original Broadway Cast Recording as Penny Pingleton) though I guess there's that little issue of poor James Carpinello (apparently they still haven't figured out who to use for the Cast Recording).

Dancing Between Commercial Breaks

First of all, they are stretching the premiere week of Dancing with the Stars to three nights, so I was mistaken but CTV will be showing Gossip Girl starting in its regular time slot at 7pm tonight. As for Dancing with the Stars, how do you stretch out a goldmine? Separate the ladies from the men and have them dance on separate nights (tonight, the men and their partners dance away at 8pm on ABC and CTV), with a results show on Wednesday.

I get this show. I do. It's a hark back to the cheesy variety shows with semi-celebs potentially embarrassing themselves in silly situations. It's safe fun for the whole family. Those cheesy variety shows are huge around the world (lord knows I've been forced to watch a few Hong Kong ones in my time, and stare blankly as I flip through channels in my travels (my fave so far? Naked Italian Stripping Housewives (or something like that as it was translated). That was on basic cable. Yes, only in America does nudity get vetoed but people killing each other is gladly shown) and they were huge back in the day (can we bring back Battle of the Network Stars please? Or am I just being nostalgic because I was like, 5 when those things happened?)

Still, how So You Think You Can Dance does not do better in the ratings, I don't understand. By comparison now on DWTS, the dancing is mediocre at best, the live singing of pop songs is awkward and cringeworthy, but again, it's Jennie Garth dancing! Ola!

So from what I saw between commercial breaks of How I Met Your Mother (and I had already seen Chuck and The Big Bang Theory or else I would have been watching that), the ladies danced first on Monday night and Jennie Garth was good enough to probably be safe for a few weeks. 9021Olé!

Josie Maran was pretty stiff but Alec (above), who wavers between hunky pretty boy and greasy Euro sleeze won my heart over when he noted that Josie has a decieving body for a model, it's totally weak. Way to call out the anorexic stick (on another note, I ended up watching Janice Dickinson Model Agency or whatever it's called later in the night and loved when Janice praised the models for following her advice of looking great... by not eating for the past 4 weeks)! Still, Josie seemed cute and waiflike but I'm guessing she might be gone this week unless a man does even worse tonight.

Sabrina Bryan from the Cheetah Girls (who? yah, even I didn't really know who/what that was and I even watch The Suite Life of Zach and Cody sometimes (what's that? Oh nevermind)) totally rocked the show with her booty shaking, with a bit too much Hip Hop booty and not enough Cha-Cha but whatever. With her new partner Mark Ballas (above. Yes, she's the "star". I didn't know at first which of the two were at first). Between her shaking and his... him. I hope this couple stays for a while.

Marie Osmond was fine, and she's probably right, there are probably enough Osmonds around to keep voting her to stay. As for the rest, I didn't get a chance to watch because Heroes started.

So up tonight, the boys, including model Albert Reed and soap star (and my alma mater alum) Cameron Mathison! Oh yeah, and Wayne Newton. I guess they finally felt sorry for Edyta and paired her up with Cameron and gave the old guy to Cheryl this time.

Heroes - Back To School, Back to Basics

Chapter 1 - Four Months Later - Season 2 Premiere

I was a little fearful of this premiere, almost reluctant to watch, because I really thought the finale SUCKED and while I thought the show in general was always fun, I knew it had problems that needed to be addressed.

So it's Season 2, a fresh start, and we are back to Chapter 1 again as they sort of get to restart the clock.

Seems like they've self corrected a bit, and gotten back to the core things that made Heroes so strong, namely, concentrating on the whole arch of the battle through the eyes of the two most lovable characters, Hiro and Claire. Nicky/Jessica is not even in the picture and Matt Parkman (who gets reinstated back onto the force) is relegated to the side at this point. HRG and Claire and family, now with a new last name, are living in Southern California and Claire must go back to high school and camouflage herself while HRG lands a regular job at a copy centre and is not the employee of the month. We get to see Claire back into a regular life, as she's trying to figure out her powers and her role in the world, while being herself. We have another attempt at the cute guy friend (Nick D'Agosto, one of those kids I always recognize cause he guest stars in everything but I just realised I remember him from Election. Okay. That's a winner!), only this one we discover, has a secret of his own (and this time, it's not that he's not gay).

Last season we ended off with Hiro in Japan in 1600's, and he encounters his childhood hero Takezo Kensei, only it's "Sark" David Anders playing (yet another) Englishman (with a more proper accent than Sark, does he ever get to play American? Or was Private Practice enough to scare him off that?) who really is a drunk hero-for-pay, and Hiro already changes the course of history and realises his hero isn't all that. It's always fun watching Masi Oka's Hiro but with the addition of David Anders (Alias), this was a comic duo heaven!

I'm glad they kept Ando as well (whose hair is just getting highly fantastic), and is waiting with Hiro's father Kaito Nakamura (George Takei) except Kaito finds out he and Angela Petrelli are both marked for death, and we see someone take him down.

Nathan and Angela Petrelli are still looking for Peter, who is found in a shipping tanker in Cork, Ireland, all clean cut, naked and locked up in chains.

Where was I?

We meet Maya (Dania Ramirez) and Alejandro (Shalim Ortiz), on the run in the Dominican Republic trying to get to America, and we don't know what Maya's problem is, but we realise she is not to be messed with, even though she acts all delicate and frail. There's a fear in what might be possible for her and they know it.

So far, back to the basics of the show. So far, so good. There isn't too much of the convoluted mystery with only Mohinder really getting to somewhere he wants to be, so that he and HRG can take down the "company". The dialogue is still horrible as hell, but there are cute moments, usually elevated by either Hayden Panetierre and Masi Oka (and now David Anders), especially the "Yuck" comment. There's still the overdramatic score, which worked at points, but now I think hinders the quality and believability of the show. Yes, I said believability. Remember, we love these Heroes because they are supposedly everyday people like you and I that just discovers they have these powers. It's everyone's wish to secretly discover we have superpowers so this is our little fantasy dream.

So the fake terrace overlooking the dark New York backdrop may add a stylistic comic touch but it's taking away from why we connected with the show in the first place, but putting Claire back in High School is a step in the right direction.

How I Met Your Mother - Moore Mother

Wait For It... - Season 3 Premiere

Yay! How I Met Your Mother is back for more and it's Legen... wait for it...DARY!

Robin's off in Argentina and Ted is wearing his breakup beard. Barney tries to coax Ted to join him back in singles world, but only when Robin shows up with hot latino Gael (Enrique Iglesias), does Ted get back into the game (and shaves off his beard). And back in the game he does, as he doesn't even let Barney finish his sentence before Ted is macking on new rocker chick Amy (the lovely Mandy Moore playing against character).

Soon enough, Ted finds himself in a tattoo parlour with Amy, and wakes up back in the apartment where Lily, Marshall and Barney see the butterfly tattoo Ted got above his buttocks. Oh yeah, and Ted leaves half dressed Marshall on the street with his date (it makes sense in the show), and boy, Doogie's been working out. Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka together...

Where was I? Oh yeah.

Meanwhile, Lily, in love with Gael, goes on a double date with Robin and Gael , and everybody hilariously falls in love with the latin lover, including Marshall! (Aw, we love you Marshall even though Kristen Bell's Sarah Marshall doesn't... wait. That's kinda weird...)

Meanwhile, Marshall sends Barney this message. The countdown has begun! Seriously, this is Legen...wait for it and hope you're not lactose intollerant...dary!

At the end, we get an overhead glance of the "mother" with her yellow umbrella, so we can assume it isn't Amy? Too bad, I could also use more of Mandy Moore.

Analysing the "Chart" - Pushing Daisies Yes, Cavemen No

So Scooter McGavin went one step further and averaged out the scores for our big Bloggers Cheat Sheet for the New Fall TV Season!

Just from looking at the chart (click on picture to enlarge), its obvious that Pushing Daisies is the top pick, since it received unanimous 5's straight across the board from everyone who saw the pilot. Of course, this could mean nothing, as GlowyBox Lori noted, Studio 60 rocked the pilot last year and the fizzled out, while 30 Rock and Brother & Sisters was plagued with problems but turned itself around as quickly as you can say Greg Berlanti. Meanwhile, most shows really take a few episodes, if not seasons to really get into their groove (Seinfeld, Sex and the City, Everybody Loves Raymond) but since networks don't give promising shows a chance anymore (Love Monkey), we need you to watch the good shows NOW.

Anyways, the full list of averages of all the new pilots (reviewed) are after the jump:

Here are the 22 pilots we reviewed. Funny, Life and Life is Wild tied. It's also interesting that The Big Bang Theory was either a big hit or miss with the bloggers with a very divisive response.

1. Pushing Daisies: 5.00
2. Chuck: 4.67
3. Dirty Sexy Money: 4.56
4. Reaper: 4.31
5. Gossip Girl: 3.92
6. Aliens in America: 3.75
7. Journeyman: 3.67
8. Bionic Woman: 3.54
9. Private Practice: 3.33
10. Cane: 3.20
11. Samantha Who?: 3.17
12. Sarah Connor Chronicles: 3.00
New Amsterdam: 3.00
K-Ville: 3.00
15. Life Is Wild: 2.75
Life: 2.75
17. Back to You: 2.70
18. Women's Murder Club: 2.50
Big Bang Theory: 2.50
20. Carpoolers: 2.43
21. Viva Laughlin: 2.00
Big Shots: 2.00
23. Cavemen: 1.63

(And again, the original score was based on this:

LEGEND
1 - Don’t waste your time unless you find ACCORDING TO JIM ‘funny’
2 - Not great but at least doesn’t offend me.
3 - Fun to watch if nothing else is on.
4 - Has potential. Worth a second look.
5 - Set your TiVo to Season’s Pass!
N/A - Haven’t watched yet.

from these blogger friends (or as Ducky put it, frenemies, oh is that why I didn't hear from you for a while? I'm wathcing you... ha): BuzzSugar, DaemonsTV, DuckyDoesTV, GiveMeMyRemote, GlowyBox, MikeyLikesTV, ScooterMcGavin, SillyPipeDreams, Seat42f, TapeWorthy, theTVaddict, TiFaux and TubeTalk)

Of course at this point, we've all built up Pushing Daisies so much it can only disappoint.

And yes, I'm really milking this chart as if we had the ultimate say or something...
