Nine Responses

WHAT?

I'm not sure if I'm:
1. excited
2. disgusted
3. frightened
4. elated
5. curious
6. indifferent
7. fascinated
8. shocked
or
9. pleased

Javier Bardem pulled out of Nine (the movie adaptation of the musical adaption of the movie 8 1/2) to take time off (a year) from a busy working schedule. Isn't that nice. Don't we feel so sorry for him?

Daniel Day Lewis is thinking of taking over the role that would costar Penelope Cruz, Marion Cotillard, Sophia Loren, Nicole Kidman and Judi Dench! Hawt!

Hmm, wait, didn't they both win Oscars this year? I guess the Best Supporting Actor is going to be replaced by this year Best Actor winner. Top that!

While I do think DDL is a good actor, sometimes it would be nice if he wasn't playing an angry angry man. Though Nine is a darker musical, well, it's still a musical, so it would be really cool to see DDL tackle this.

Degrassi: 90210 Arrested Development

Shenae Grimes is the new Shannen Doherty.

Interesting.

UPDATE: EVEN MORE further interesting casting announced today!

Didn't the original Beverly Hills 90210 base itself from the original Degrassi High when Aaron Spelling wanted to bring it to the states?

So this is kinda like full circle isn't it?

Shenae Grimes, Darcy on Degrassi: The Next Generation is moving to Beverley Hills: 90210 to become Annie Mills, sister to fellow Canadian Dustin Milligan (as adopted brother Ethan Ward/Dixon Mills (?)) with mom Lori Loughlin (Full House, Summerland). You know, that photo from the CTV site of Shenae really DOES look like a younger Lori back in the Full House days. Where's Uncle Jesse when you need him?

UPDATE (May 14 2008): I was wrong about Dustin Mililgan, he plays Ethan Ward, a rival, while Tristan Wilds will play Dixon Mills, the brother.

Well, I'm not that excited about this remake but they've cast two Canadians in the lead, so if rule dictates, it'll probably work (notice almost every successful show has a Canadian in the opening credits cast? We ARE slowly taking over.. har har har...)

I guess that means Darcy leaves Degrassi? Did she even graduate? I can't even remember where we left off at this point. I thought they were going to centre the show around her and Peter, since Lauren Collin's Paige, Adamo's Marco and Stacey's Ellie are all pretty much leaving. Is ANYBODY around for season 8?

UPDATE CONTINUED: According to Ausiello via theTVaddict, Jessica Walter (Arrested Development) will play Tabitha Mills, grandmother to Annie Mills.

Dirt's Ryan Egghold is Ryan "the teacher".

Veronica Mars Is My Heroes

I just read that Kristen Bell (Veronica Mars) is joining Heroes for a few eps as Elle who will commit a serious crime. Where's Veronica Mars to solve it when you need her? (hmm, seems like all the other bloggers and Variety have confirmed it too)

No fricken WAY! I think I would have prefered to have seen her on the other serial show Lost, but whatever. I'll take Bell however I can get it! Incidentally, I'll be posting about my Broadway adventures (from last week) later today but I saw Xanadu and Kerry Butler was AMAZING in the lead but it would have been interesting to see Bell do it (as she was rumoured to have passed on the part).

Fall Casts Shadows

Mae Whitman (Anne, George Michaels invisible girlfriend on Arrested Development) is off Bionic Woman and they are getting thinking of getting rid of the hearing-impaired character altogether? NOOOOOOO...

I was sad to hear Merrin Dungey (Francie/Evil Francie on Alias) bumped off Private Practice since she didn't seem to score well as Addison's best friend (great actress, wrong character), so instead, they will just replace her with another black actress. This is where I would roll my eyes until I heard it was Audra McDonald (above), who is, just, simply, AMAZING on Broadway (currently in 110 in the Shade), and who I was just saying to my friend last week, that she deserves a bigger shot at stardom.

Meanwhile, I may have to work around my CW boycott to watch Reaper since I just simply love Bret Harrison who just finished on The Loop this past weekend. Plus, I hear Aliens in America is hilarious as well and just acquired Scott Patterson (Luke on Gilmore Girls)!!! It'll be interesting to see if he can play anybody other than Luke Danes.

Oh No They Did'ent

In escalating scale:

1. The fall show Sam I Am starring Christina Applegate, Jean Smart and Sookie St. James (er... Melissa McCarthy) is changing the title of their show to Samantha Be Good because Dr. Seuss' estate was not too happy with the allusion to "Green Eggs and Ham".

2. Boston Legal dropped Julie Bowen, Mark Valley, Rene Auberjonois and Constance Zimmer. Say wha? Part of the charm was watching these 4 play with the big boys (Shatner's Denny Crane and James Spader) and girls (Candice Bergen), plus, Bowen and Valley certainly added to the hotness factor. Instead, John Larroquette is joining the cast.

3. Heroes has cast David Anders (Sark on Alias)as ancient samurai warrior Takezo Kensei, Hiro's childhood hero. You know, because the blond haired hunk is SO very asian.

4. Isaiah Washington says T.R. Knight is the one that should have been fired. Classy. If T.R. hadn't played his cards so perfectly, I may have actually believed Isaiah, 6 months ago, but sorry dude, you lost.

The Grass Looks Greener Over There In The Apocalypse...

Big casts excite me! Evening opens soon. Juno is done with. Loved Babel despite its' flaws. I'm a sucker for anything Robert Altman. Now, word is Mark Ruffalo, Gael Garcia Bernal, Danny Glover, Julianne Moore are descending upon Toronto to shoot Fernando Meirelles's (the director of the brilliant City of God and great The Constant Gardener) new apocalyptic movie Blindness written by Don McKellar (Broadway's The Drowsy Chaperone) (based on Saramago's Nobel prize winning Portuguese book). The cast will also include a few Canadians returning home, including Greys Anatomy's Sandra Oh, Maury Chaykin, Don McKellar and Martha Burns, plus an international bevy of stars/actors.

DAMN. I knew I wanted to work on that movie when I saw it on the list... damnit.

The Casting Couch

According to imdb, Meryl Streep has signed on to the just announced Mamma Mia movie! Meryl singing Abba. How great is that!??? Just saw The Devil Wears Prada and between that and her performance in A Prairie Home Companion, she just continuously proves why she's the best actress in Hollywood.

Despite the fact that recent movie musicals still do not make that much money (Moulin Rouge did not actually make that much money in its original release), and are not always transfered well (Rent), or are at best decent if not spectacular (Dreamgirls, The Producers), I'm still glad this trend is continuing, especially with Hairspray opening up this summer, and Sweeney Todd being filmed with Johnny Depp, Sacha Baron Cohen, Alan Rickman and Helena Bonham Carter with director Tim Burton. Guess they are all trying to chase Chicago's Oscar Gold.
