So it's gonna be a Lee Dewyze and Crystal Bowersox finale isn't it? Whatev. I'm so over this season, I only leave it on the background so that I don't miss the start of Glee. And maybe just to enjoy Idolatry just a little bit more (where if you watch the Tim Urban interviews, you'll love him just a little bit more. He's not as dumb as you think he's pretty).
Here's Allison Iraheta and American Idol winner Kris Allen singing "The Scientist" for Oprah's No Phone Zone rally. Allison and Kris, now THAT was a season!
It's been a while since I've blogged about TV. Oh, I'm still watching lots (and tweeting about it), but since my Australia/New Zealand vacation, I've been trying to catch-up. Some, like Lost, I've caught up with right away of course (not that I have any idea what's going on) and the rest, I'm slowly working my way back to the current episodes (I'm finally caught up to late March for most).
Anyways, here's my thoughts in more than 140 characters (but not by much because I think my brain is starting work in 140 character thoughts now).
Lost - Seriously, I can't talk about it, because, I don't know how to talk about it. But man, I can never wait until the next episode, yet fear it because it's one less episode until the end. I'm assuming I'll get "it" on May 23rd at 11pm.
Bored to Death - Watched the first season. I always think I'll get annoyed at Jason Schwartzman, Zach Galifianakis, and Ted Danson, yet I'm reminded that I've enjoyed them before (Schartzman in Rushmore and any Wes Anderson film, Galifianakis in Hangover despite the movie being overrated, Danson in Help Me Help You and Damages) and I'm loving them in this and I can't wait for more episodes.
Ugly Betty - I am LOVING this season so far. Of course I am. It's cancelled! It can now join the ranks of Everwood and The OC. Shows that got cancelled in it's fourth, and best season.
Greek - Nothing is more comforting than going back to college and joining Cappie, Casey, Rusty and Beaver. Seriously, I'd go back if it was this fun. I'm enjoying the deepening of Evan and Rebecca's characters and kudos for the ongoing gay love story with Calvin and Grant and I love the Heath still lingers around.
American Idol - What can be said? Worst season ever. It's Bowersox's to lose but I don't even get that excited by her as I have past Idolers like Kris Allen, David Archie, David Cook, Carrie Underwood or Kelly Clarkson. Maybe it's cause of all the Lilith Fair vibe. Maybe it's cause despite it supposedly being a girls year, the boys have prevailed, despite sucky voices. But hey, it's what happens when everyone is a sob story this year.
Life Unexpected - How much do I love this show? It has that comfortable reminder of the good years of The WB. Love Kristofer Polaha and Shirri Appleby and love all the minor melodrama.
Community, Parks & Recreation, Modern Family and Cougar Town have become such awesome comedies! Love them so much. Amazing too since 3 of them had such a shaky start. In fact, I find myself looking forward to them more than the old standard The Office (which I will say, has at least gotten better again in the new year).
The Good Wife - The cast is superb to begin with but they keep adding amazing guest stars and re-occuring characters. How much do we love Gary Cole's mustache? Or a creepy Alan Cummings (though when is he not creepy?). The writing has gotten better and tighter too and while the mysteries/cases still manipulatively feed us viewers, the interplay between the characters are snappy and solid. And still love that Archie Punjabi is now in a big US hit TV show.
Undercover Boss - It's so set up and manipulated (I mean, there's no way EVERY employee the undercover bosses speaks to has a sob story like the ones that do on this show) but while I wonder about the OTHER worthy employees, I'm a total sucker for it all. I can't stop watching, as fake as some of it may be.
Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains - When did Colby get so crabby? I'm still on team Boston Rob. I'm sad Cirie got kicked out so early. I wish Stephen (from JT's season) and Rob Cesterino was on this. UPDATE: Okay, I caught another ep. DAMNIT. Ugh.
Desperate Housewives - Okay, lesbian story aside (and I'm not totally caught up yet so bear with me), I've been loving this season.
Seriously, he comes off even more intelligent and thoughtful and sweeter about the whole ordeal and his artistic process than you could ever imagine anybody on American Idol.
Top 36er's Ricky Braddy (who I loved from the start) and Jesse Langseth (who I didn't but have grown to LOVE) come off really well too on Idolatry.
You may have already seen this but SOOO cute together, especially after Adam makes his topping joke:
Wouldn't it be awesome if Adam and Kris made a duets album together? That will shut up both sides of the fanbases! Considering every duet they did together sounded awesome, why not?
Okay okay, I know the show is over. I'll move on. I know I'm still definitely going to post about Kris Allen again but at this point, I'll just remember him as is... sigh... (and our new AMERICAN IDOL!!!).
I actually had this post pre-prepared. It was going to be short. Plain. And announce Adam as the winner as I had predicted all along.
(to almost quote DivaJames) HOLY MUTHAF@CKA!!!! I WAS WRONG!!! WAHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!
Granted, I don't even know if I like the result. Cause it means he'll have to sing that damn Kara song again (at least a few times though considering almost all of them have disappeared except "Time of Your Life" and Kelly Clarkson's, it might just disappear like most of the rest of the Idol songs. We can only hope. Meanwhile, can they release "Heartless" or "She Works Hard For The Money" as a legitimate single?).
Speaking of which. I had been feeling Kris Allen's underdog vibe all season long and equated it to Kelly's 1st season sneakup. Every week he was wowing me with another Kris interpretation and putting his stamp on everything he touched (without needing to yell at it) and it was totally reminding me of Kelly Clarkson's slow overtaking of frontrunner Justin Guarini.
And now KRIS ALLEN has done the SAME!!! And beat the front runner!!!
I'd comment on the ridiculously bloated 2 hour show but I've already wasted 2 hours of my night thank you very much Fergie and the Black Eyed Peas for your number 1 most irritating (but addictive, but irritating) song EVER (and considering you put out "My Humps", that's saying a LOT.
You can check my tweets for my running comments from the show.
In the meantime:
OMGWEJRKLWJROI@@%U@IJJIOJASLFJSDFKJLJ!KLJLJDSAKLJIOFJWIOFLKFJLSKFJKDFJOWFJEIFJSALKJFLFJW!!!! (I learned that from DivaJames too)
HE DID IT HE DID IT HE DID IT!!!
The tweens have WON! (And BTW, I take that statement about tweens controlling the Idol vote as offensive. Cause trust me. I'm NOT a tween (that was a LONG time ago honey!) and I LOVED Kris and I know many other older folks that do too. (Though does the fact that I'm enjoying The Wizards of Waverly Place explain anything?)
O.M.F.G.
The nets are going to go CRAZY now and all the Glambert fans are going to go postal. My facebook account ALREADY has tons of death messages to me and Kris Allen.
Anyways, yah yah, they were both nice boys who seemed to really get along. It was really sweet to see. Plus their duet on the "I Will Remember You" was crazy hot!
As was Kris Allen's duet with Keith Urban! Only to be matched by Allison Iraheta with Cyndi Lauper! I could have listened to those two duets all night. Too bad they had to fill the rest of the show with junk. (Though I missed the start. I guess I could rewatch it since I taped it but why bother. KRIS WON KRIS WON KRIS WON!!! Oh, am I being to loud Adam fans? SUCKAS!!!!)
UPDATED AMENDMENT: And if you think I'm being one sided, I'd like to note that I had Adam Lambert as my pool pick (which I came in 3rd! Not enough to buy papa a new pair of shoes but definitely enough to go see a Broadway show with (albeit my way in the cheap seats)!). And I'm not saying Adam isn't amazingly talented and a great live performer. Hey, he would be perfect for the current Broadway Tony Best Musical nominee Rock of Ages where former American Idol loser Constantine Maroulis just got nominated for a Best Actor Tony Award!!! So it's not all a loss!
Okay, enough already. Cause:
So You Think You Can Dance STARTS TOMORROW!!! ALREADY!
Man, they really don't give us a breather do they?
I'm not sure I'm ready for my most favorite reality show just yet, especially since it's going to go on for the rest of the year.
But BRING IT! I'm ready for some more Nigel Lythgoe! And Cat Deely!
Now I'm going to go back to listening to Kris Allen and Glee all the time. (Click on Top 3 Results for a collection of Kris Allen performance videos).
There you have it! The best season EVER!!! AND!!! the pool I'm in? I'm pretty sure I came in third! (If it weren't for fricken Whitney Houston or Stevie Wonder, I might have come in first). And NO ONE in the pool picked Kris Allen. Whoa. (ARGH!!! I WAS SOOO CLOSE to picking him, though I chose Adam so points for me still!!!).
American Idol - Top 2 - Final Performance Night Glee - Pilot - Ep. 101
This is it! The final 2. And Kris Allen MADE IT!!! And my pool pick Adam Lambert made it!!! (Funnily, I was debating between these two for my pick).
Two boys in the finale. Just like last year. But unlike last year, the rocker is the front runner and the clean cut cutie is the underdog this year, but last year, the underdog won... hmm...
OMGHOWAWESOMEWASALLTHAT?DOESANYBODYHAVETHEDOWNLOADSCAUSEIT'SNOTAVAILABLEINCANADA... (GASP)... AND... (BREATHE) I'MGOINGTOHAVETOWATCHITOVERANDOVERAGAIN ANDLISTENTOTHESONGSOVERANDOVERANDOVERAGAINTHISSUMMER. So yeah, um, I LOVED it. And everyone involved in it. And how awesome did the preview for the rest of the season look with the clip of the Glee club singing "Somebody To Love"? (Which they sang at the upfonts)
Adam Lambert 26 years old Home: Los Angeles, CA Audition: San Francisco, CA Encore Song: "Mad World" (by Roland Orzabal, made famous by Tears for Fears)
Grade: B
Was it me or did he do this better the first time around? Still, he's got that whole performance thing down pat, and he knows how to command the stage.
Kris Allen 23 years old Home: Conway, AR Audition: Louisville, KY Encore Song: "Ain't No Sunshine" (by Bill Withers)
Grade: A-
I remember loving this the first time he did it, but while I've been listening to the studio versions over this past week, I've found myself loving some of the other songs even more. Of course, now that he's doing this live, I think he does this song better live. And was it me or did this seem more polished, despite two minor tonal mistakes.
Adam Lambert 26 years old Home: Los Angeles, CA Audition: San Francisco, CA Producers Choice Song: "A Change Is Gonna Come" (by Sam Cooke)
Oh. Adam? Right. I gotta talk about this right? Hmm... look. Those that love the screaming are gonna love him no matter what. The rest of us? We would like to keep our eardrums intact.
Kris Allen 23 years old Home: Conway, AR Audition: Louisville, KY Producers Choice Song: "What's Going On" (by Marvin Gaye)
Grade: B-
Not my favorite interpretation of a song I don't really love, but I love Kris' voice still. But I actually agree with Randy in that while he's great at the small songs, it seems a bit lost in the huge Nokia Theatre (but then again, I complain about seeing singer/songwriters in large venues all the time and thought even John Mayer should only play small clubs like the Mod Club and not at large amphitheatres where he totally drowned).
Still, this is what Kris is great at and again, this whole show is built for Adam's big showy voice and performances and Kris has been fighting against everything that has worked against him in the Idol machine and STILL survived to Final 2!
Adam Lambert 26 years old Home: Los Angeles, CA Audition: San Francisco, CA Idol Song: "No Boundaries" (by Kara DioGuardi)
Grade: D
Wow, that was kind of a hot mess. I don't know if I hated it because it was a sucky song (thanks Kara!) or cause Adam didn't really know what to do with it. I'm a little shocked because I thought they would have written something tailor made for the rocker (or were they counting on a Danny finale?). Cause that was all wrong in every possible way.
Kris Allen 23 years old Home: Conway, AR Audition: Louisville, KY Idol Song: "No Boundaries" (by Kara DioGuardi)
Grade: B-
So is this what the song is supposed to sound like? It wasn't Kris' best (it seemed to start on the wrong key) but at least he made the song listenable. I mean, Kara's song still sucked but there seemed to be some semblance of a song there.
While Kris' voice is very different than the powerhouse of Kelly Clarkson, is it me or does he give you the same vibe she did back in season 1? She was totally unseen in the auditions. Just like Kris. She slowly kept giving amazing performances throughout the live shows. Just like Kris. She seemed genuine and nice and humble throughout the season and always looked surprised at any praise she got. Just like Kris. And then she defeated the season's frontrunner, Justin Guarini, to win in the end. Just like...
The Final Round Up:
Best of the Night: Kris Allen's "Ain't No Sunshine" Worst of the Night: Kara DioGuardi, for writing that song and totally spiraling from a welcome addition this season with some interesting comments during the auditions, into a hypocritical spineless judge that spewed whatever she could in her attempt at keeping up with the inanities of Randy, the loopiness of Paula, and the poisonous Simon.
Will Win: Adam Lambert Should Win based on tonight: Kris Allen
Let the online msg board/twitter/facebook debates BEGIN!!!
Should Win based on the season: Obviously I'm going to say Kris and obviously Adam fans are going to discount my opinion but whatev, I'm going to go back to enjoying Kris Allen's studio versions...
and... we have my new OBSESSION!!! (You knew I was just going to go on a total lovefest so feel free to skip over this, just as long as you go watch the show).
Where do I start?
Matthew Morrison? as Will Shuester? The teacher that wants to guide Glee Club? Awesome!
Jane Lynch? The militant gym teacher? Awesome!
Jayma Mays? The hygiene obsessive teacher secretly in love with Will? Awesome!
Jessica Gilsig? As Will's harpy whispy wife? Awesome!
Stephen Tobolowski? Guest starring as the fey former Glee club leader who is married to a woman? Hilariously Awesome!
Iqbal Theba? as Principal Higgins? The money crunching principal? Awesome!
Lea Michelle? As Rachel? The Star?
Chris Colfer? As high voiced diva Kurt? Awesome!
Amber Riley? As Mercedes "I'm Beyonce, I ain't no Kelly Rowlands"? Awesome!
Kevin McHale? As Arty? Tsssssssssssssssss. BURN! Awesome!
Cory Monteith? As Finn? Who's mom is having a prostate exam? Awesome!
You KNOW that I would love the musical elements, and of course the show about underdog losers in high schools is totally relatable (I did Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, I was a brother. Our cast thought we were so cool. We actually went to a mall ourselves and just started singing. Oy vey).
But I also liked the indie movie like filming on the dramatic non-musical moments and it wasn't all out bold and blaring like Ryan Murphy's other high school show Popular was. That show was great but practically just as campy as a musical without the music, so Glee doesn't need the emphasis to push it over to Ugly Betty territory (not that that's bad either, since you know I still love that show). Glee already has the music and damn! It sounds GREAT!!!
Here again is the Glee cast singing "Somebody To Love" at the FOX upfronts this Monday.
My summer playlist is totally going to be looking like Glee's Studio versions of "Don't Stop Believin'" and "Rehab" and Kris Allen's "Heartless", "She Works Hard For the Money", "Ain't No Sunshine", "Falling Slowly" and "To Make You Feel My Love"!!! In constant repeat rotation!!!
Glee is FINALLY "Previewing" TONIGHT on FOX after Idol at 9pm (well, probably like 9:04pm because you know Ryan can't actually control anything except his hair. Seriously, I've only seen the trailer (which I'm posting AGAIN) and I think it's already going to be my new obsession show (taking over the spot previously occupied by Pushing Daisies). Even their upfront presentation (of the cast singing Queen's Somebody To Love) is awesome (video at the bottom of the post)!!! Linz has seen it and LOVED it! And reviewsaregreat!
Speaking of American Idol's finals tonight, you know what? I'm okay for Adam to win. It's what America needs. It's what the producers are doing anything in their little corporate hearts are wanting. It will be nice to finally have a gay Idol win the American version (since, you know, a few of the other world editions are already two steps ahead, much like everything else gay related).
But seriously, after hearing the studio versions of Kris Allen's "Heartless", "She's Working Hard For The Money" and "To Make You Feel My Love" (youtube's below or download them on iTunes), I'm ... ...
but NOW he's becoming my new obsession and I want to have his babies. And I want to roll him up and keep him locked up in my basement obsessive. Or something crazy obsessive like that.
I CAN'T GET ENOUGH OF KRIS ALLEN NOW. It's seriously been on constant repeat. Everytime I hear the songs start up again (which is about every 4 minutes on constant repeat rotation), I squeal with glee and make a little boogie action with my arms (my co-workers are probably wondering if I have a condition or ants in my pants or something by now).
So, I think the Kris fan base is getting bigger and it's going to be a lot closer than we would have ever thought (well, not me, I've thought he could do well the whole time so I'm surprised that everyone's "Shocked" that he's in the finals, and yes, I'm pointing my nose up while I type this), but I almost want Kris to lose tomorrow so that he can remain his low-keyed underdog self. Still, on the other hand, it would be great to see him win and see the shock in all of Glambert fans' eyes. So vote 02, 04, 06 tonight! (I'm guessing those numbers based on the fact that Kris won the coin toss and chose to go second).
Michael and Kristen's Idolatry continues on the Kris love (in the 2nd part from this week's episode) and it's awesome as usual.
Speaking of awesome, here's the studio versions of some of Kris Allen's songs. It's all I've been listening to since Thursday.
Seriously, I don't think I've ever really realized what the song "She Works Hard For the Money" actually MEANT until now. Not only does Kris Allen make it more contemporary sounding, he puts the meaning back into the song (no offense to Donna Summer, but before this, I thought it was just a disco ditty).
Here's the Glee cast singing "Somebody To Love" at the FOX upfronts yesterday.
Lost - Follow The Leader, The Incident Parts 1 and 2 - Eps. 515-517
American Idol - Top 3 - Results Night - The Cut from 3 to the Final 2
Any spoilers will be after the jump... but seriously, I don't even think I could spoil Lost since there's NO WAY I COULD EVEN EXPLAIN WHAT THE F#$K WAS GOING ON.
But it was AWESOME!!!
CONFUSED BUT AWESOME!!! I loved that everything was sort of coming together (or so it seems) and that we seem lots of past moments from other angles again (or so it seems).
All that and all the emotions? Okay, I need to talk more after the jump. (Blog jump, not Lost time jump, but that too)
Okay, I think my face contorted to every possible dramatic reaction an actor must do in drama class when Juliet was being sucked into the hole as Sawyer and Kate tried to save her. Then I did about 50 MORE faces when she's seen alive at the bottom.
And I KNEW they were going to head there the whole time. That Jack was going to continue Faraday's mission and bring the bomb to the Swan/energy/whatevertheheckitis and restart the whole premise...
Or does it?
I imagine now, the first scene of the first episode of the last season will repeat Jack opening up his eyes on the island and that they may have restarted it all, but somehow they'll STILL end up on the island. No?
And there will be guest appearances from Shannon, and Boone, and Walt (uh, though not sure how they're going to do that one) and Claire etc. etc. etc. How awesome would that be in the last season!???
But I'm getting ahead of myself. Since we don't even know what Juliet DID in the end... cause they ended THERE??? WHAT??? I HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL 2010 TO SEE WHAT'S NEXT???
ARGH...
While it wasn't as shocking as I had heard (mainly because I thought, what's the most shocking they could do? Start ALL OVER again...wait... I think they ARE going to do that) so I knew we'd see that white light. I WAS however hoping we'd also see them all at LAX again.
But whatever, it was a GREAT season finale with more awesome quips from Hurley and Miles, touching moments between Miles and his dad, TONS between Juliet and Sawyer, Kate and Jack, reliving Locke's death scenes, Rose and Bernard!, and of course, the fact that Jacob seems to be EVERYWHERE. Plus the fact that Richard and Ben and Eloise actually know a lot less than I thought they do.
But seriously, 2010??? Oh man, it's going to be a LONG WAIT. My heart is STILL beating.
It's less of a shocking finale like Season 3's but I definitely can't wait until the next new episode.
And on American Idol. OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG.
Go(off)key is GONE! (Why did I not hear of that term before? So awesome whoever on the net I saw it from. Ditto with KaraGokey). America put the Go in GOKEY!!!
AND even BETTER NEWS... that means KRIS ALLEN is in the FINALS!!!
OMG OMG OMG OMG...WAHOO!!!
Let the war between Glambert fans face off against Kris fans, who seems to be FINALLY gaining the momentum and the respect he deserves. Before we were united in putting the Go in Gokey, but now, it's WAR!!! And hey, when it came down to the Top 13, I narrowed my pool pick choice between Adam and Kris, and mainly went with Adam because I felt the producers would give him the pimp spot more (which gets more points) and I was totally right. My heart went with Kris, though for points, I had to go with Adam.
Okay, so I'm not a fan of Adam's screaming but I get that he's entertaining and SOOOO different (if the 70's/80's rockglam is "different") and while I still think he's an ACT and an ENTERTAINER as opposed to an Idol or a singer I want to hear on the radio, I'm going to be okay with Adam winning. (Though why do I have a feeling more Kris fans can endure Adam winning but Adam fans would have none of Kris winning and scream bloody foul if Kris actually pulled it off? (which still is possible you know!)). When Kris performs, it feels genuine. When Adam sings, it's staged. And I'm not even talking musicals or what not, because I've seen some REAL performances on stage. Still, someone on the boards said it best, Kris is saffron, subtle and distinct and aromatic, and Adam is cayenne pepper, bold and spicy and loud.
Adam winning puts less pressure on Kris, and he gets to keep his underdog low-key vibe that suits him well. Plus, when his album becomes a HUGE hit, it's the only victory I'll need to see. (Well, that and a LOT of his face (thanks to DameJames for the hilarious link)). More here.
Still, I was loving the day long respect Kris was finally given after "Heartless" and that people finally see what I've been saying all along. Uh, HELLO. He's AWESOME. He has been ALL ALONG. I don't know why Adam is getting all the attention?
Have you HEARD Kris do "It Works Hard For The Money"? "Falling Slowly"? "To Make You Feel My Love"? "Ain't No Sunshine"?
Seriously, I'd buy his album if it came out this Friday. I WILL buy his album when it comes out. It's gonna be AWESOME!
In the meantime, let's relive the brilliancy of Kris Allen!!!:
American Idol - Top 3 - Performance Night - Theme: Judges Picks, Singers Picks
First off: Dial 1-866-IDOLS-02 / 05 /08 for KRIS!!!
Okay, only ONE MORE WEEK TO GO!!!
One more week until Glee's sneak preview following Idol (what did you think I was going to say?) (and Linz went to the premiere last night and LOVED IT). Next Tuesday May 19th at 9pm!!! OMG!!! I can't WAIT!!!
Oh yeah, in the meantime, we've got this "contest" to finish. One that's so rigged for Adam to win (seriously, just crown him already cause I don't think I could take the judges slobbering anymore), that I think I'm now only watching for 3 reasons (other than Kris Allen):
1) I've still got 2 of my 3 picks left in the pool I'm in (and still currently in 3rd place!!! Lord no one better sing any more Stevie Wonder, Celine or Whitney or I'm screwed)
2) So that I can watch this season's awesome Idolatry videos with Michael Slezak and company (Kristen Baldwin is now a STAR!).
3) And so that I can read my favorite Idol buddy bloggers RJ and DameJames whose bitchiness knows no bounds! And that's awesome! (And Joe, but he writes it in the pool blog above or his own site)
So at this point, the real race is for number 2, and obviously, Kris Allen deserves it, but Danny Gokey is like the devil incarnate and he's just unstoppable. I picture Tom Hanks chasing him around the world trying to stop the screeching. Seriously, as Kristen Baldwin (the slap happy EW columnist star coined), it's time to put the GO in GOKEY. (Allison? This is for you! (Fist pump to the heart!))
Oh, and before we get to the actual singing (or screaming for Danny and Adam), I've got to mention that they have a clip with Carrie Underwood in Africa. Help the poor and suffering yada yada... the important thing is THEY USED MY FAVORITE SONG FROM THIS YEAR. The current Canadian hit remake "Africa" by Karl Wolf. So has it finally hit the States? I'm guessing after tonight, it will! (Seriously, I LOVE IT. I'm always bopping to it in my car, yeah, that's me!)
Danny Gokey 28 years old Home: Milwaukee, WI Audition: Kansas City, MO Judges (Paula's) Song Pick: "Dance Little Sister" (by Terrence Trent Darby)
Grade: C
While I haven't been loving Danny's song picks, this was even worse than usual. Wait. That's a good thing! Oh, maybe the judges DO have a plan! The song was boring and Danny yelled it like normal and it sounded grating and groan-inducing.
Kris Allen 23 years old Home: Conway, AR Audition: Louisville, KY Judges (Randy and Kara's) Song Pick: "Apologize" (by Ryan Tedder, made famous by OneRepublic)
Grade: B+
It's a perfect song for Kris, but Kris' best attribute is to take songs no one would think he could pull off, and make it his own. So the judges were pretty sneaky with this because it's actually a difficult song, and the way he would sing it is exactly the same way OneRepublic did. What a crock. I hate the judges this year.
Kris? I love you. Mwah!
Adam Lambert 26 years old Home: Los Angeles, CA Audition: San Francisco, CA Judges (Simon's) Song Pick: "One" (by U2)
Grade: A for the first half, B for the second half
Danny gets TTD? Kris gets OneRepublic? and Adam gets U2? Stacked deck anybody?
Adam had me until he started screaming again which apparently constitutes as amazing singing this year because it's fresh and new (uh, no it's not, it's retro 80's style and I know, apparently it's back, even the Tony awards are all about it this year but that doesn't mean it's actually GOOD).
Danny Gokey 28 years old Home: Milwaukee, WI Audition: Kansas City, MO Danny's Song Pick: "You Are So Beautiful" (by Billy Preston, Bruce Fisher, made famous by Joe Cocker)
Grade: B+
You should have seen how fast my eyes rolled when he announced this song. My eyes still hurt for rolling back so fast and far back. Ow. Okay, it was better than his first song at least because he was screaming less and let his regular register sing a bit, and you forget, it's actually quite nice sometimes, at least until he wants to start showing off again and starts yelling, luckily, there aren't that many parts to do that here so it sort of saved him. Still, I hope that was the last we've seen from him. Goodbye.
Kris Allen 23 years old Home: Conway, AR Audition: Louisville, KY Kris' Song Pick: "Heartless" (by Kanye West, Ernest Wilson, Scott Mescudi, M. Jones, made famous by Kanye West)
Grade: A
Okay, points off for picking Kanye West (take a quiz to see what rapper YOU are? Seriously, hilarious) but big points for picking something contemporary and new. And then turning it SO AWAY from Kanye and totally making it his own. Who would have thought a white boy from Arkansas would be the one to wipe out Kanye from his own perch? Awesome!!!
Adam Lambert 26 years old Home: Los Angeles, CA Audition: San Francisco, CA Adam's Song Pick: "Cryin'" (by Steven Tyler, Joe Perry, Taylor Rhodes, made famous by Aerosmith)
Grade: C
Again, people who love Adam, will love this. The rest of us have gone deaf and have our pinky fingers in our ears trying to itch it out and possibly have our auditory facilities functioning again.
I thought he screamed the ENTIRE THING. And not even in tune this time, which is what he's "famous" for.
