One year away today!

And just as I had asked, there's now a CTV "Believe" commercial with Patrick Chan! (With Narration by Donald Sutherland and Music by Howard Shore!):



Plus while they unveiled the new 2010 Vancouver Olympic torch today, I'm still deciding if I like it or not. I wish it were more 3 dimensional. But it's growing on me. And true, it has got to survive our harsh winter since the race will be from Nov '09 thru the Feb. 12 2010 start date.

Now I just hope I won a spot on the torch relay! Which you can try here. (Just don't pick day 50 and 51 from the 100 day run, those are the days I'm trying for (I think, or did I choose day 49? Shoot...)).

I'm sure by then I'll be so sick of these "Believe" commercials running on CTV which already started airing on Jan. 1st 2009:



but right now the voice of Donald Sutherland (yes, Jack Bauer's real father), the cute face of Olympic hopeful and Alpine skier Jan Hudek, and the music of Howard Shore (yes, he's Canadian too!) is giving me very patriotic vibes.

Now let's just hope Vancouver doesn't screw it up. Like they've already screwed themselves. (Sorry, I'm from Toronto and have a love/hate thing for the "city". hehe. Yes it's part jealousy for the views (both landscape and men), the slower pace and lifestyle (do people even work there?) but seriously, how do they PAY for the real estate? Or are they expecting the tax payers to foot the bill to the luxury condos/Olympic village?))

I hope they do one for Patrick Chan. Here's the PetroCanada/CBC one that ran last summer during the Beijing Olympics.

Jan Hudec (born August 19, 1981 in Sumperk, Czechoslovakia) is a Canadian alpine skier. On February 11, 2007, he won the silver medal in downhill at the 2007 World Championships in Åre, Sweden. In the November of the same year he won his first World cup victory, a downhill in Lake Louise.

Mellisa Hollingsworth (born October 4, 1980 in Eckville, Alberta) is a Canadian athlete who has competed since 1995. She won the bronze medal in the women's skeleton event at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin.

Oh Gay! How Cute Is Matthew Mitcham? - The 2008 Beijing Olympics Superficial Coverage

Okay, one last post on the Beijing Olympics. Just because Matthew Mitcham was so cute winning the Gold medal in the Men's 10m Platform Diving. Wasn't Matthew of Australia just so cute winning the Gold medal in the Men's 10m Platform Diving?

Matthew Mitcham is also the first out athlete to compete for Australia and its nice to see a young athlete so out and proud (and even if he wasn't, his happy clap last night and his reaction to his spectacular final dive that clinched him the Gold was pretty obvious, seriously, so cute!).

He's also the current coverboy for The Advocate and hopefully will more athletes won't have to wait until they retire before they come out.

Oh Canada! - The 2008 Beijing Olympics Superficial Coverage

YES!

At least Adam Van Koeverden recovered today and got the Silver in the K1 500m Kayaking after missing out in the 1000m. Whew. (Interesting of note, is it a Commonwealth thing that Australia, Canada and Britain won Gold, Silver and Bronze in this event?)

Adam Van Koeverden seemed so hard on himself in the post interview on CBC. I just wanted to cuddle him to make him feel better... amongst many other reasons...

Meanwhile, yay to Emilie Heymans, Priscilla Lopez-Schliep and all the other women who won medals for Canada... but... I'm going to post more pictures of the boys! It's not a sexist thing, it's an ogling thing. (Hence, the superficial coverage of the Olympics which I stated right off the bat so sue me).

This will probably be my last post for the Beijing Olympics and as the CBC documentaries on Newsworld yesterday reminded me, don't forget about all the REAL problems China is hiding still. Strangely, everything I ranted about urban development and planning within China was stated exactly on the news report by my MORTAL SCHOOL FRENEMY who was the CBC's "Canadian Architect working in China". I think I threw up in my mouth a little. I have a whole envy AND contempt thing going with this guy. Contemptvy? Even worse? I just found out I might be staying at this guys place next week on my trip to China (though he won't be there). How's that for awkward? (His best friend is one of my best friends and setting the whole accommodation thing).
For once though, I actually agreed with him and everything he said on TV. Anyways, sidetracked...

So for all the summer athletes (like young diving cuties Reuben Ross and Riley McCormick (OMFG, he was born in '91?)), see you in London in 2012, but for everyone else, see you all in Vancouver for the 2010 Winter Olympics in CANADA!!! Welcome! Bienvenue! See you all soon!

Wait, This Isn't Soft Core... ? - The 2008 Beijing Olympics Superficial Coverage

I go away for a few days, come back from the weekend, start a new job (well, an old job actually just for a bit while I had some time to spare) and all of a sudden, Canada's medal standings jump from a big 0 to besting Athens and we still have a few days left!?? Awesome! I should go away some more! (How exciting was Simon Whitfield's comeback to win Silver in the Triathlon the other night?!)

Meanwhile, I've been watching the Olympics when I could, and I've been collecting some gratuitous photos along the way from the Mens Diving, Gymnastics, Waterpolo (which would be the sexiest game EVER if it weren't for those silly caps), Rowing... (I would have done some others but there wasn't the best photos but I've been watching!)

Oh Canada, seriously? Still no medals? Even Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and other countries I can't spell have won medals. At least Great Britain is still 0 as well. It's the Queen thing isn't it? (On the other hand, Australia is doing well so what's our excuse?) (UPDATE: OOPS I was wrong. Britain has tons of medals. So it's just a Canadian sucky thing...)

At least Mike Brown finally has a chance! Yay! And I'm not sure why (well, I do know why and if you know who JT Sloan is then I don't have to explain myself and if you don't, well, nevermind...) but the little Red Maple Leaf tattoo on the chest is totally hot. Usually I'm not into tats but for some reason nationalism on the chest is totally hot (when it's Canadian).

Meanwhile, I just had to post this picture of the helpful French Team, just because. Teehee:
Meanwhile, how can you NOT talk about the Mens 4x 200m Freestyle Relay? The USA just DOMINATED and were so far ahead of the GREEN World Record Line (let alone everyone else) that even if you want to hate Phelps, Lochte and co., you really can't (well, unless you're swimmers in the other lanes).

I watched the Mens Team All Round Artistic Gymnastics last night. Do I really need to explain myself any further? (Hey, at least I was upfront about my reasons for watching the Olympics!)

Congrats to the winners but didn't the Russians and other Eastern European countries used to dominate this event? um, I kinda miss seeing those big Russian and Romanians and Bulgarians...
