Portia And Push Ups!

Portia de Rossi was on Ellen yesterday (I timed my gym workout to be exactly then so I could watch!) and it was AWESOME ("I'm so excited I can't think straight" - Ellen) but even more awesome? Ellen's opener.

Check out Jeff Craft (Kraft?) in the video below starting at about the 1:30 mark (or here on the official page). He does push ups as his hidden talent trick. It's more amazing than it sounds. He's also way hotter than those glasses would have you believe. He looks like those hunks in Hollywood movies that become "nerds" as soon as they have glasses on. Then they'll take the glasses off, and become a hottie in a makeover scene.

Did I mention I'm a total sucker for hot hunky guys with large arm muscles who wear nerdy glasses even though it barely hides the hotness?

The episode was only slightly ruined by the appearance of American Idol recyclables Jasmine and Jorge who also sang to prove WHY they were kicked off in the first place.

But Portia was AWESOME. Love the new Hollywood lesbian power couple! Though Portia told a story about being ignored as fans ran to Ellen but I would be all over Portia just for being in Arrested Development.

And her new show Better Off Ted (premieres this Wednesday at 8:30pm on ABC) looks fricken hilarious. And reminiscent of the awesome Andy Richter Controls the Universe and just realized its from the same creator!

Here's Ellen's interview with her wife Portia, as well as more on Better Off Ted:

The guy hosting the Newlywed Game is kinda cute too.
Here was the pre-interview from Friday's show:

An oddly revealing game (even more than The Newlywed Game):

The Cast of Better Off Ted:

Jay Harrington (Desperate Housewives, Coupling US) as Ted:

Portia De Rossi (Arrested Development, Ally McBeal) as Veronica:

Malcolm Barrett as Lem:

Jonathan Slavin (Andy Richter Controls The Universe) as Phil:

Andrea Anders (Joey, The Class) as Linda:

Here's a ton of hilarious promos:

Just Joshin'

Josh Groban is totally rockin' that leather James Dean look. And is it me or is his comedic chops pretty darn good? Just the subtle little move and look he did before he and Ellen DeGeneres starts singing "Total Eclipse of the Heart" in yesterday's episode is hysterical!

I still loved his appearance in Jimmy Kimmel's "I'm Fucking Ben Affleck" video.

And with his concert performances of Chess, I would LOVE to see him do a musical of some sorts. That would be awesome!

Daytime Gaytime

I'm watching Ted Haggart on Oprah right now and I'm not really buying any of it (including the poor hair dye job). I like that Oprah is calling him and his wife Gayle on some of their delusions, but I will respect that he understands that he's truly confused about his sexuality and doesn't want to be pegged with a label (and supposedly anything else for that matter). Fine, I get it, but defending the church that booted him out is nauseating.

I feel bad for the kids though. They actually seem pretty well adjusted, considering.

OMG, he really hasn't changed has he? He's still spewing the church stuff as a sideways slight towards gays. WTF? And this was taped before the new Grant revelation.

Plus was it me or did gay-for-pay porn star Aaron James strangely come off (no pun intended) the best on The Tyra Banks Show last week on her "Gay for Pay" episode? You know, the one all the gay blogs commented on if only to show the picture of gay porn star cutie Kurt Wild (and I'm going to be no exception! But I'll save it for after the jump. Though I'm not going to link to his "body of work". I'll let you google that yourself, :P).

Strangely, I didn't cringe at Kurt (above left, below left) or Aaron's (above centre, below right) responsive and if anything, their "gay for pay" experiences have taught them to be pretty good spokesman for the gays (instead of spewing some macho stuff to make up for their work). (Here's some of the clips). And you gotta hand it to Tyra for trying her best (yet still being good ol' Tyra) and playing the salacious cards but still keeping it real and supportive of the gays (in her usual self-involved roundabout way). AfterElton has a pretty good review of the show. I think Dean (above right) spoke pretty well too but I think I couldn't stop laughing at his frosted tips to actually take his claims to straightness seriously.

I'm not even going to bother questioning their straightness or not, and whether they delude themselves or just really do it for the money, but there has got to be some irony (that's not the word I want but I can't think what else it could be) to the fact that the porn stars seem more grounded than Ted Haggart.

Meanwhile, was it me or was the Advocate guy a little off-putting? And sraightphobic? Seriously dude, what a way to make gays look defensive and antagonistic.

Things got a little yucky when some of the straight bartenders talked about the sleazy gay men offering them money for sexual encounters but at least Tyra pointed out that ALL men are like that (gay or straight) and that "Men are NASTY". Oh Tyra.

On a non-gay-related note (well, depending on what you believed), I passed by The Doctors and Big Brother king Will Kirby was on. Seriously? It's not bad enough that The Bachelor's Dr. Travis Stork co-hosts, but Kirby? I know he's a "REAL" doctor but I cannot take this show seriously, informative or not.

And on Bonnie Hunt today, there's a cute (if slightly cheesy) illusionist on. Joel Ward. Between his demeanor and the blond hair, he reminds me a bit of NPH! Yah, that's all. No idea if he's gay or straight. Though he did mention he is single. I just wanted to mention him. Adorable! I'm shameless!

Polish Rap Music

Vance at http://tapeworthy.blogspot.com:

Best life lesson I learned this week from daytime TV:

Let your kids listen only to Polish Rap Music. Your kids won't understand a thing! (This does not work if you're actually Polish). - a tip from Jane Kaczmarek on The Bonnie Hunt Show

How awesome would it be to have Jane Kaczmarek and Bradley Whitford as your parents?

Money Money Money

Vance at http://tapeworthy.blogspot.com:

There's that taboo that we people should never talk about money. Never talk about salaries. Savings. Costs of stuff. Never talk about debt. I never really believed in that taboo (and have gotten in many of troubles for being a big mouth).

And I've never been shy about my LOVE LOVE LOVE for Suze Orman and her show on MSNBC which is essentially her screaming at people for spending too much. LOVE!

And for Canadians, the awesome Til Debt Do Us Part is equally awesome! (It's like Supernanny except the plump British woman comes into Canadian households and screams at you for taking bad care of your finances and then shows the couple a step by step way to fix it. Somehow there is always lots of crying involved and broken delusions. It's fantastic!)

For me, it's schadenfreude TV. Since I'm extremely frugal cheap smart with my money. I'm not showing off that I make a lot of money (I don't, or at least, I could always make more! Feel free to click on the advertisements in my sidebar by the way... hehe... thanks!) but I do tend to show off at how much I save in living my fabulous life (and sometimes too much so and need to shut up about the great deals I somehow manage to find (though apparently I'm also really really lucky sometimes or so my friends claim)).

Anyways. Suze Orman is on Oprah right now screaming at the yuppies about the 2009 economic situation. Apparently the audience in the studio have a combined debt of over $2Million. Couldn't Oprah just wipe that out with her penny jar? Suzie is offering her new book Suze Orman's 2009 Action Plan for FREE download until Jan. 15th.

I don't think she's THE financial guru but she does just plainly say some of the most basic money saving tips that I thought everyone knew but I know friends that really don't. It's frustrating to watch friends dig themselves into a hole. Am I just into people's business too much? Oh well. Again, I don't buy into that taboo and rather seem crass than see people get into more trouble.

Of course on the other hand, I may have done the stupidest thing ever by taking a leave from my job to live off my savings as I try something new in life but we will see what happens (and uh, in the meantime, I'm sitting here watching Oprah... crap, I'd better get moving with this new life). I may be knocking on some of your doors by the summer for some bread.

On a sidenote, it was weird to see the TDBanknorth Garden in Boston and all the new TD Banks in New York City. And to see Suze Orman and Regis and Kelly shilling for TD Band or TD Ameritrade. Do people realize what TD stands for? It's nice to see something Canadian slowly take over haha...

While You Were Sleeping... And Up At Work

Considering I've been in 5 time zones in the past 2 weeks, I'm a little screwed up right now that I'm back home and sleeping at the oddest times (and only in short bouts... ugh...), so I've been catching up with Entourage and Weeds in the middle of the night (not as great as their pinnacle Season 2 highs but not as bad as people are reporting though I will say, more Carla Gugino, less Albert Brooks please) and I just turned on daytime TV to see Michael Urie (Ugly Betty) on Regis and Kelly only with Anderson Cooper hosting with Kelly Ripa.

Michael Urie, Anderson Cooper and Kelly Ripa. It's like a gay man's dream come true.

And apparently Oprah is doing her show on Rude People today! OMG I'm going to have to tape that!

And possibly show it to the people I encounter at work. Or in the movie theatre. Or any theatre. Or on the highway. Or at the mall. Or...

Seriously, I may have to post a blogpost I've had saved about the rude things people do that drive me crazy. Maybe.

Also, I watched all the episodes of Gary, Unmarried. I don't know why. I would say I was drunk but I wasn't. Just jetlagged. Which is somewhat similar though.

I've also had an unhealthy craving for instant noodles and Zoodles. And I've been indulging in them. My doctor will probably not be happy with my blood pressure.

Okay, Ellen is on now! Maybe she will help me forget about last night's election results. (WHAT THE HELL CANADA?)

My Busy Day in LA Yesterday

I forgot my cord so my pictures from yesterday will have to wait but I went to check out the set of The Office (met Mindy and Paul (Kelly and Toby!)), ALMOST got to see Ellen on standby (damnit, Leonardo DiCaprio was just on the other side of the wall and we could totally hear him (and I even offered to hold down the guards and let LinzMcC run for it but in the end we didn't do it)), finally ate at Roscoe's Chicken and Waffles (and now I'm about to have a heart attack), then saw the So You Think You Can Dance Live Tour at the Nokia Theatre in LA and I'll write more about that soon but here's some quick notes while I still have them in my head:

I LOVE Mark! He would totally make a great choreographer. He has such weird and fluid movements.

I forgot how good Thayne was and how good looking he was. And the big surprise, he was a pretty good host.

Less video montages this time, (or, at least it's integrated better and only the start Top 5 auditions that Nigel always does felt like a big time waster).

Gev is adorable.

Katee is SO precise in her movements. Amazing.

Twitch is better in person and his solo rocked.

But Gev's Solo was better. In fact the best of the night.

Pasha and Anya made an appearance!

The show lasted almost 2 hours and 45 min. with intermission.

The boys as a group are SO entertaining and their personalities really stand out on stage.

Chelsea T. and Kherington should have stayed longer in the competition.

So should have Gev and Thayne.

The best dance of the night was probably the Bollywood GROUP dance.

They ended the night with what I gather is a tradition now, with "You Can't Stop The Beat" but I still think the Season 2 choreography was better suited for the stage.

The Nokia Theatre is ENORMOUS though still smaller than The ACC where SYTYCD Live will play in Toronto.
I'm not sure I'm digging that the tour is getting bigger and bigger and more concert like and less theatrical like. And thus more impersonal.

The set now has a fancy video screen that can break apart. Apparently they've given the set dept. a bit of money now.

Major disappointment though now is that there were NO NEW routines created JUST for the Live Tour. Did they do any last year? Can't remember right now. They did for the 1st tour (of Season 2).

Hopefully I'll be able to post reviews and pictures soon of ACE (from the Signature Theatre in Washington DC) as well as everything I saw in LA.

I $!$!$ Love This Woman!

Suze Orman was on Oprah today explaining to the suburban women living in their McMansions and driving their SUV's that their current lifestyle is probably unsustainable and they MUST MAKE SOME CUTS in this harsh economic environment. I $!$!$ love this woman!

The irony being that Oprah herself has helped perpetuate a lot of those wants but OPRAH is bloody rich so she can afford to buy anything she wants. Maybe America itself. In fact, Oprah could probably save the nation with her own bank account.

I'm not sure I felt sorry for that couple that was 90k in credit card debt but I loved that the retired couple living in the RV roaming around the country got Suze's financial approval for being so cautious and careful with their money and saved and saved so that they could live their dream. Right on!

I've always wondered how the heck everyone else lives such a high lifestyles as I'm scrimping and saving away so in a way it makes me feel better that people are in credit card debt and not making WAY more than I am (well, they probably still are). I know. How cruel of me. Whatever. It's the few joys being a big ol' CHEAPSKATE buys me.

Will John McCain Walk Ellen Down The Aisle?

Why I'm reminded that I should love Ellen and watch her show more when I can:

Thanks to Towleroad for the clip and tipoff.

Never cared for her dancing but she's with Portia! That's just cool!

Also, ModFab tipped off this hilarious, if not downright frightening site:

Things Younger Than John McCain

Towleroad had also transcribed the Ellen clip of her interview with John McCain where she nicely grills him on his anti-gay marriage stance.

MCCAIN: I just believe in the unique status of marriage between man and woman. And I know that we have a respectful disagreement on that issue.

ELLEN: Mm-hmm. Yeah. I think that it is looked at and some people are saying the same that blacks and women did not have the right to vote. Women just got the right to vote in 1920. Blacks didn't have the right to vote till 1870. It just feels like there's this old way of thinking (that) we are not all the same. We are all the same people. All of us. You're no different than I am. Our love is the same. (applause) To me what it feels like just, you know, I will speak for myself...it feels when someone says you can have a contract and you'll still have insurance and you'll get all that. It sounds to me like saying well you can sit there (points in one direction), you just can't sit there (points in another direction). That's what it sounds like to me. It doesn't feel inclusive. It feels isolated. It feels like we aren't owed the same things and the same wording.

MCCAIN: Well, I've heard you articulate that position in a very eloquent fashion. We just have a disagreement and I, along with many, many others wish you every happiness.

ELLEN: Thank you. So you'll walk me down the aisle? Is that what you said?

(laughter)

MCCAIN: Touché

Give And (Don't) Let Die - Eli Stone, Oprah's Big Give, My Name Is Earl

Eli Stone - Patience - Ep. 111 , Waiting for That Day - Ep. 112,  Soul Free - Ep. 113

Oprah's Big Give - Season 1 including the Finale

My Name Is Earl - I Won't Die with a Little Help from My Friends - Ep. 414, I Won't Die with a Little Help from My Friends: Part 2 - Ep. 415, Stole a Motorcycle - Ep 416, No Heads and a Duffle Bag - Ep. 417

I finally caught up with Eli Stone, Oprah's Big Give and My Name Is Earl this weekend and now I feel like I need to do some good again and help the world. Sigh, I used to be such a giver...

Eli Stone had its season finale (lets hope it's season and not series finale and rumour has it that we should have faith that it will be back, because I'm starting to love this show and it's almost ready to move into the 4 star category for me so ABC better give us some more and not let this show die) and the last 3 episodes over the last 2 weeks ended with quite the emotional bang. An earthquake that destroyed the Golden Gate Bridge (and proved Eli right and not crazy) AND his surgery? And Jordan actually having a heart? As Joey Russo would say, Whoa!

Loved Katey Segal as Marci Klein, the other name in the firm, who tries to oust Jordan when Jordan backs the charitable Eli. It's Jack Bristow meets Peg Bundy! And the TV icons continue to collide on Eli Stone! I'm just not sure she will be back after she tried to oust Jordan, when the earthquake that crazy Eli predicted actually happened. Especially since the finale barely touched on the fact that the Golden Gate Bridge just collapsed and San Francisco had the big one, you would think the repercussions would be bigger and life doesn't just go on so that Eli can have his brain surgery and we get another momentous episode. I'm going to blame the fact that Eli Stone the show only got a 13 episode first season and they needed to compress the stories, but still, it felt a bit like story whiplash.

At least they are building on the characters for the great cast they have (and the great guest stars that filter through), which is why I loved the show to begin with. I'm really loving Sam Jeager's Matt Down more and more, especially after the gay chimpanzee case, and while I'm still unsure of Natasha Henstridge, she's growing on me. Still, I'm sad they've pretty much written off Laura Benanti as Eli's possible future girlfriend but it's a nice peak into the future when Eli envisions his own rally with Maggie and his baby by his side.

Loved the final moment with George Michael as kinda-God and everyone else singing (again) in praise of Eli! Hallelujah to that!

Oprah's Big Give had it's finale as well and damn if I did not love the structured charity giveaway/excuse for Oprah to continue branding. I guess it helped that the right final 3 made it to the end.

Though is it me or did 2 of the cutest contestants make it to the end? How convenient for the shows producers that younguns Brandi, 23, and Cameron, 22, made it through all the episodes? I'm not complaining. I'm just saying. I'm part of that shallow demographic. Stick a cute face on a charity and I will definitely give. (Why do you think the panda is the WWF's mascot?)

Love Brandi as she's always so positive and gung ho (as opposed to Rachael who just clashed with everyone else) and love Cameron because I'm extremely jealous of his accomplishments and the fact that he's cute as a button he keeps coming up with great ideas and just going for it and seems pretty genuine and genuinely charming. His toll booth experienced re-invigorated an old project I was working on and reminding me that I should probably renew that project and complete it or take it to the next step.

Alas, Stephen won the overall Big Give (and the surprise $1 Million) but as the corny line says, everyone is a winner (with the runner ups getting $100k and everyone else gets $30k) including the viewers for feeling like they've done something good just by watching the show (oh, that's not the charity? I actually have to go out and do something? Oh, alright...!)

Finally, My Name Is Earl returns from the strike out of jail, in a coma, and back to the kind-hearted beneath the white trash exterior it originally was and not Prison Break: The Comedy. In fact, we've seen Earl through his mind in the coma as he sees the world as a traditional TV sitcom (with Alyssa Milano's Billie as Earl's imagined wife!).

I like that the rest of the gang has taken it upon them to continue Earl's list while he's in a coma. It gets to combine Earl's white trashy humour back with the good-natured intentions of the new and better Earl. The flashback's still give us enough of the hilariously bad Earl, Randy and Joy but the show feels both fresh and comfortably predictable at the same time which is actually nice for now. Let's hope they give us more of that.

Reality Check - DWTS, Survivor, Oprah's Big Give, Most Smartest Model

Did Dancing with the Stars just announce Ozomatli as guest performers on tonight's result show? Wow. Cool. Wow. Really? Cool.

Am I the only one who liked Eliza and wanted her and the adorable (if not too bright) Jason to do better on Survivor: Micronisia - Fans Vs. Favorites? I guess the smugness of Ozzy has finally gotten to me and the fact that he seems to have the whole thing sealed up in a bag is turning my own allegiances.

I have just had no inkling to continue watching Oprah's Big Give (other than to suck up to Oprah that I watched her show when I become BFF with her soon) and it's been collecting on my PVR for weeks now, but just as I was about to delete them all, I decided just to watch a bit of one and I'm totally suckered back in. I loved the episode where they had to give away $100,000 away fast without giving any individual more than $500 each. So fun!

I still think the judges are seem like an odd fit on the show, and I still feel like Jamie Oliver should be cooking away or continue his School Dinners fight, but whatever, how can you turn down Oprah?

Meanwhile, we FINALLY got America's Most Smartest Model here in Canada and it's absolute genius! Genius I tell ya!

Selling Out To Oprah and Other Self Realizations

Oprah's Big Give - Pilot - Ep. 101
quarterlife - Pilot - Ep. 101
The New Adventures of Old Christine - Popular - Ep. 303, Traffic - Ep. 304, Between a Rock and a Hard Place - Ep. 305

There are people who hate Oprah and those devoted to her. I'd like to pretend that I hate her but really, I watch her show when I can (and almost time it to watch the show at the gym while I'm on a machine) because I basically plan on being her BFF and taking over her show at some point.

So I can see the negatives of her taking over the world, starting with Oprah's Big Give (along with her magazine, her announced network, choosing the president of the United States, etc. etc. etc) but I actually like the idea of the show and can't really complain of a show whose purpose is to give away money to the less fortunate, despite the amount of self branding and Oprahfication (the new Disneyfication?) of it all.

The problem was that parts of it felt a bit Apprenticey to me, even though the show is aided by the wizardry of Bert Van Munster who also produces The Amazing Race. And in fact, I wanted more Oprah, and less of whoever else was on. If you're gonna put your name on the show, at least show up for longer than the first and last 10 minutes.

Like, why is Jamie Oliver relegated to the side as a celebrity judge and looking like he's totally being wasted while he should be cooking to convince school kids to eat properly? And who are the other judges anyways? Love Nate Berkus of course as the host but I will admit a jealousy factor since he has a great life that came from his successful design practice and he looks great, but seriously, the makeovers he does on Oprah is usually actually pretty ugly. I just think we all love him because, well... he's hot and likable. No? Or am I just being a petty bitch?

Still, I would totally be his BFF!

Anyways, I just want to see Oprah give away money and things and everyone going apeshit crazy. That's the money shot. That's always fun to watch. Like Bernadette's Dream Come True. It was one of the rare occasions I bawled like crazy. BAWLED I tell ya.

I would talk about quarterlife, the show about bloggers (hmm... and we all look that attractively lanky and imperious) but apparently there is no point already after one week since NBC pulled it after the first episode, AND somehow my PVR didn't tape it (I guess my machine was telling me something) so I actually never even got to watch it. Too bad since Cappie (from Greek) was in it. Love Cappie. Can't wait for Season 1 Part 2 to start on March 23rd! Still, I'm not sure I'm THAT interested enough to watch it online (where the show came from) because if I did, I would have already watched it. I guess people just don't care to watch a show about bloggers? How interesting can we be? Even they look bored of each other (above).

I'm behind on talking about The New Adventures of Old Christine because I didn't really have much to say until now. It's still funny, not as funny as the first 2 episodes this season or last season, but still funny. Though they are making Christine a bit TOO neurotic and getting into a bit too close to Elaine territory and I don't like that new guy/friend from school but it's still one of the best comedies around (and really, with the strike delay, the only one around).

I did love when Matthew (the always lovable Hamish Linklater) was in therapy and realized his unhealthy close relationship with his sister.

Oh sh!t. My sister and I do a LOT of things together. We tend to see a lot of theatre and concerts together. Part of it is that I'm trying to be a good brother and I want her to see and experience as much as possible. Part of it is that I have nobody to go to theatre with in Toronto because my friends are either a) always broke, b) hate musicals, or c) always working and refuse to go out on a school night (and no, nobody has kids that are old enough to go to school yet). Sheesh, I really need new friends in Toronto. Which I probably don't have because I'm a total loser hanging out with my baby sister.

Though at least all we talk about is pop culture. My family does not discuss human emotions or anything like that. It's not our style.

Things That Make Me Happy - Future and Past TV Classics Edition

Two things made me really happy today.

Pushing Daisies is returning for at least a 13 episode pick up for next season! Woohoo! No more new episodes for this first season but at least it's returning. I'll take it. (Also returning from this seasons new batch of shows: Dirty Sexy Money, Private Practice, Samantha Who?, The Big Bang Theory, Moonlight and probably Gossip Girl, Chuck, Aliens in America)

and the Cosby kids were on Oprah. On a set that recreated the Huxtables household. That was awesome!

I know previous generations always say they wanted to be part of the Brady Bunch or Partridge Family but I grew up in wanting to either be part of the Huxtables or the Keatons. So seeing a mini reunion (minus Lisa Bonet, again, though this time her excuse was that she just had a baby, yeah, sure, like that's enough to keep you from sitting on Oprah's stage) of Sondra, Theo, Vanessa, Rudy, and Olivia. Though I find it funny/ironic/sad that of all the kids, Olivia's Raven Symone (oh, sorry, just RAVEN now) has the biggest entertainment career of them all.

Mr. Cosby made an appearance via satellite which was nice but it would have been awesome to see Phylicia Rashad. She was the ultimate TV mom. (She's appearing on Oprah soon but to promote A Raisin in the Sun which I'm excited about, to be shown on ABC Monday, Feb. 25th at 8pm)

Another thing that made me happy is that CBS is letting How I Met Your Mother is also returning.

But what will REALLY make me happy is to hear that Friday Night Lights will return in the fall. But nothing yet. And the DVD for season 2 is set for release in April. With 15 episodes. Meaning this season is done.

Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade - Excuse Me, Did You Just Say Menudo?

I fast forwarded through some of the annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade to all the musical portions. The parade, which to be honest, I only discovered in recent years since again, it's not our holiday up here, and those giant balloons always mystified/scared/astounded me, but I discovered that they showcase some great numbers (but usually badly lip synched for TV purposes) from the Broadway productions (uh, when they're not on strike) from up the street. Plus The Jonas Brothers, anybody who is still unemployed from High School Musical 2, and Menudo (say what?!?).

And before I get to the clips, um, here's the Spring Awakening cast again... um... selling their soul (sorry Liz) but I love this cast and someone finally scanned together the Vanity Fair spread so here it is:

And here are the two adorable leads Lea Michele and Jonathan Groff of Spring Awakening singing "Give My Regards to Broadway" at the Macy's Thanksgiving Day:

The cast of Xanadu performs a medley of "All Over the World", "Magic", and "Xanadu". Seriously. Just watching Kerry Butler and Cheyenne Jackson is hysterical enough in what ModFab describes as "The Gayest Gay in the History of Gay: Because it is, hands down, without question, the gayest experience I've ever had. Gayer than the pride parade. Gayer than c--ksucking. Gay gay gay gay gay. And that, in this case, is a great, fabulous thing. The show is pure cheap fun, transformed from shaky kitsch into entertaining musical comedy by a truly spectacular cast.":

Cast of Young Frankenstein performs "Transylvania Mania" at the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. Dr. Frankenstein is played by Roger Bart (Desperate Housewives, The Producers), the girl Inga is played by Broadway superstar (and completely deserving of the title) Sutton Foster and Christopher Fitzgerald as Igor. Poor Sutton Foster, apparently she's terribly underused in this show and it's too bad because after seeing The Drowsy Chaperone, I get what all the fuss is about her. She really IS that amazing!

There, now you've saved yourself $450 dollars. Honestly, Kristin Chenowith and Zachary Levi made the best career move possible, signing onto Pushing Daisies and Chuck and leaving this supposed smash behind. (Both were initially to have done this musical if their TV shows didn't pan out, whose laughing now?).

More after the jump including Legally Blonde and Hairspray:

Here's the cast of Legally Blonde the Musical singing "What You Want", which to be honest, I was surprised since they have much better numbers (in a musical that was better than I imagined).

Nikki Blonsky of the Hairspraymovie singing "You Can't Stop the Beat" at the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

I couldn't find the Menudo clip on youtube (and I didn't actually watch it, please, even I'm not that curious) but here was something just as horrendous:

Degrassi: TNG - Free The Children (I Don't Mean The Cast)

I forgot to mention this earlier because it's been a little crazy here at the real workplace but the Degrassi: TNG crew are going back to the Drake Hotel in Toronto to do another Tag Team Tuesday. This time, against the OLD Degrassi crew. Oh, sorry. "CLASSIC" Degrassi!

All in support of Free The Children (run by wonderbrothers Marc and Craig Keilburger, who have had THREE Nobel Peace Prize nominations so far. This depresses me only because I went to school with Marc and not only is the guy intelligent and good looking, the guy is frigging one of the nicest people I know. Bastard. I hate that I can't hate him for being perfect. Yes, I'm a petty petty jealous idiot. OMG? The Oprah Angel Network endorses Free The Children? They know OPRAH?).

So, "Classics" Stefan Brogren (Snake) and Stacie Mistysyn (Caitlin) go up against Miriam McDonald (Emma), Stacey Farber (Ellie) and Aubrey Graham (Jimmy)and it all goes down next Tuesday, August 7th, starting at 9:30pm at the Drake Lounge, Drake Hotel. The event is techincally free but again, a suggested donation of $10 will go towards Free The Children.

Incidentally, most of the Degrassi: The Next Generation cast will be going to Kenya the following week to help build a school and help with other development projects.

Oh yeah, and apparently it's the 6th Season Finale on The N tonight (at 9pm), and I guess the news is out that Shirley Douglas (heir to Tommy, mother to Keifer Sutherland) will guest next season.

The poster for the event is after the jump.

Only 30 Days?

I had to do some image research for my boss on talk shows and he wanted to see what Oprah's set looks like (seriously, he doesn't know?). I know. I have a weird job sometimes...

I noticed that on Thursday, June 14th, Oprah will have "Gay for 30 Days" (a repeat I think) where Ryan (right), a religious conservative will go gay (with help from gay Ed, left) as part of and experiment for the Morgan Spurlock (Super Size Me) show 30 Days.

In one sense this sounds SO wrong. Not the being gay part, but if you're straight, you're straight. If you're gay, you're gay, and if you're bi, well, you're just selfish for taking EVERYBODY into the pool and leaving little for the rest of us in the singles pool. Well, unless the gay bomb hit you but that's a whole other story (and seriously, is it for real?).

Anyways, you know I'm going to have to see this as wrong as it is! I know I know, it's a social experiment in the hopes of bettering people in the understanding of differences within our society yada yada yada Oprah good billion dollars sponser my show please adopt me in the very least love you mama Oprah...

Spring On Live

Jon Galagher Jr. and Lauren Pritchard of Spring Awakening will be on Regis and Kelly Live on Monday June 4th! I'm guessing in preparation for the Tony Awards on Sunday June 10th, the shows will be making their rounds on the talk circuit again! (or more like, the talk circuit will allow the musicals to actually show up and perform).

Fantasia and The Color Purple are on Regis and Kelly on Friday. Let's see how she does.

Lea Michelle and Jonathan Groff of Spring Awakening will be on CBS Early Show on Tuesday June 5th.

Here's also the video clip of the girls at the Drama Desk Awards. Or just watch below.

No More Jonathan Groff To Live (On One Life To Live at Least)

Yey! Now that Jonathan Groff got his Best Actor in a Musical nomination for Spring Awakening at the Tony Awards, we can continue the saga of the bug-eyed Henry on One Life To Live(because as much as I love him as Melchior, it really is Raul Esparza's year).

If you missed the beginning, check here.

and then we continue with the drama (or is it unintentional comedy? Not the hostage taking but the writing, acting...) on One Life To Live. (Why can't you take me seriously?)

Henry (Don't) Get Your Gun

So apparently I was right. Jonathan Groff's character Henry IS the psycho that will take the high school kids hostage as they try to do their high school musical. Except that now they will have to re-film (I just couldn't use the word "shoot" there) those One Life To Live scenes without a gun. Oh no! My Melchior is going bad! At least that can now legitimately explain some of Groff's big eyed stares when he wasn't actually speaking (so far, his acting is good when he speaks, not so much when the camera isn't focussed on him). Damnit, I was hoping the "Henry is not what he seems" would be him jumping on the lead jock who is somewhat forced into doing the musical. That's a whole other soap isn't it?

By the way, the lead star girl's name is Starr? Are they for real?

Degrassi's Spring Is Looking Rosie while Daytime TV is Not

OMG Rosie O'Donnell is moderating the Town Meeting Mashup (that I had reported on before) with the cast of Spring Awakening and Degrassi TNG ? WHA??? Rosie by the way IS in fact leaving The View. Crap, what am I going to watch whenever I'm sick at home?

Rumour by the way is that there's also going to be a special guest host at the Spring Awakening/ Degrassi TNG Mashup Town Meeting and I have a link to his blog on my site's sidebar...

The whole thing will air on AOL at 3pm on Monday, April 30th (though the live taping is at 2pm, which theatremania got wrong).

Speaking of which, One Life To live is curbing their high school hostage storyline a bit from May Sweeps due to the VTech shootings. Wait. It was going to a hostage situation? Not just a high school musical? Was Jonathan Groff's Henry going to tbe the shooter? (Think about it, he's the ignored loser, used and abused by the popular girl he's in love with and her posse, has a sort of dazed look to him (which is really just Jonathan Groff not being used to the camera and being a bad actor but I love him anyways and thinks he deserves a Tony nomination so I'll assume he's just in "character"). Plus apparently he's not even one of the singers in the musical. What's the point? Plus they already said in the original press release that Henry is not shy quiet one he seems to be... da da DUM)

Meanwhile, Spring Awakening got their deserved Drama League nomination though it seemed like almost everyone else did too (check the list, there's quite a few nominees).
