Emmyworthy 2009

Alright, here's my predictions to win (*) and who I think should win (!). Though I haven't seen In Treatment, and I'm still catching up with Dexter and Breaking Bad so I'm not caught up to the latest seasons, and I have yet to catch the latest season of Damages too.

BEST COMEDY SERIES
Entourage
Family Guy
Flight of the Conchords
How I Met Your Mother
The Office
30 Rock
*WILL WIN/!SHOULD WIN
Weeds

BEST ACTOR IN A COMEDY SERIES
Alec Baldwin, 30 Rock
Steve Carell, The Office
Jemaine Clement, Flight of the Conchords
Jim Parsons, The Big Bang Theory *WILL WIN/!SHOULD WIN
Tony Shalhoub, Monk
Charlie Sheen, Two and a Half Men

BEST ACTRESS IN A COMEDY SERIES
Christina Applegate, Samantha Who?
Toni Collette, United States of Tara !SHOULD WIN
Julia Louis-Dreyfus, The New Adventures of Old Christine
Tina Fey, 30 Rock *WILL WIN
Mary-Louise Parker, Weeds
Sarah Silverman, The Sarah Silverman Program

Typically, I would roll my eyes at the role of Tara which seems written with the line, "And will be awarded the Emmy". However, Toni Collette validated that.

SUPPORTING ACTOR IN A COMEDY SERIES
Jon Cryer, Two and a Half Men
Kevin Dillon, Entourage
Neil Patrick Harris, How I Met Your Mother *WILL WIN/!SHOULD WIN
Jack McBrayer, 30 Rock
Tracy Morgan, 30 Rock
Rainn Wilson, The Office

He's even fricken hosting the show. Just give it to him already, damnit.

SUPPORTING ACTRESS IN A COMEDY SERIES
Kristin Chenoweth, Pushing Daisies
Jane Krakowski, 30 Rock
Elizabeth Perkins, Weeds !SHOULD WIN
Amy Poehler, Saturday Night Live
Kristin Wiig, Saturday Night Live *WILL WIN
Vanessa Williams, Ugly Betty

Hardest category to pick, as I'm pretty much okay with all these ladies. And who said there weren't good roles for women?

BEST DRAMA SERIES
Big Love
Breaking Bad
Damages
Dexter
House

Lost !SHOULD WIN
Mad Men *WILL WIN

Mad Men was beautiful but Lost made me pumped every single time, whether with excitement or fury or complete dumbfoundness, but it always kept my blood moving.

BEST ACTOR IN A DRAMA SERIES
Simon Baker, The Mentalist
Gabriel Byrne, In Treatment
Bryan Cranston, Breaking Bad
Michael C. Hall, Dexter
Jon Hamm, Mad Men *WILL WIN/!SHOULD WIN
Hugh Laurie, House

BEST ACTRESS IN A DRAMA SERIES
Glenn Close, Damages *WILL WIN
Sally Field, Brothers & Sisters
Mariska Hargitay, Law & Order: SVU
Holly Hunter, Saving Grace
Elisabeth Moss, Mad Men !SHOULD WIN
Kyra Sedgwick, The Closer

Moss is really the heart of Mad Men

SUPPORTING ACTOR IN A DRAMA SERIES
Christian Clemenson, Boston Legal
Michael Emerson, Lost !SHOULD WIN
William Hurt, Damages
Aaron Paul, Breaking Bad
William Shatner, Boston Legal
John Slattery, Mad Men *WILL WIN

I'd be happy here with anybody not from Boston Legal

SUPPORTING ACTRESS IN A DRAMA SERIES
Rose Byrne, Damages
Hope Davis, In Treatment
Cherry Jones, 24
Sandra Oh, Grey’s Anatomy
Dianne Wiest, In Treatment *WILL WIN
Chandra Wilson, Grey’s Anatomy

Usually I'd give it to Chandra or Sandra but they really didn't have much to work with this year and had better years, the rest I haven't seen yet. Though since I thought Byrne was pretty excellent in S1, I'd probably lean towards her.

REALITY COMPETITION PROGRAM
The Amazing Race
American Idol
Dancing With The Stars
Project Runway

Top Chef *WILL WIN/!SHOULD WIN

I think stomachs will finally prevail and stop TAR's winning streak.

You haven't seen In Treatment? you are in for a treat! get it on Netflix or whatever--it's been my favorite show this past year after The Wire for great writing, great ACTING, incredibly intelligent and sophisticated content. There may not be a 3rd season because it was based on a 2-yr Israeli show, but I sure am hoping HBO goes for it.

No, sadly I don't get HBO here and haven't had time to catch up yet. I noticed it on the plane but they didn't have first ep. I'll def. have to check it out tho!

Concur. In Treatment is freakin' amazing!

Also: it's kind of crazy that Mad Men is going to beat out Lost, and yet you've put that Lost should win.

Well, that's not the crazy part - the crazy part is that I think I agree!
