SYTYCD7 - The Countdown Begins... 10, 9...

So You Think You Can Dance - Season 7 - Top 10 Results Night - The Cut From 10 to 9 - Ep. 709
Judges: Nigel Lythgoe, Mia Michaels, Adam Shankman

Top 10 Group Dance
Choreographed by: Sonja Tayeh
Song: "Royal T" - Crookers feat. Roisin Murphy
Grade: B+

I realized whoever choreos these group dances are going to have to deal with imbalanced guys and girls this season, and they probably won't know how imbalanced unitl the week before. Before, you may no know who you're going to have to work with, but you always had even girls and guys, but that won't happen this year. It'll be interesting to see how they deal with it.

So far I thought Sonya did a great job dealing with having 2 girls less than boys. It was the usual Sonja funky moves things with some Roisin Murphy thrown in. I still felt there wasn't a power move as a unified ensemble in there but I also noticed that not all the dancers were doing the same moves in a moment where it looked as though they were all supposed to make the same move, so I'm wondering if it was cleverly designed to work with the dancers personal styles.

The Predictions from the Top 10 Performances:
Bottom Three: Melinda, Ashley, Adéchiké

Going Home Melinda
Also, Travis is going to murder Tyce DiOrio with a Fosse Hat.

The actual results were:

Kent is safe of course. Duh
Adéchiké is safe. I was wrong about him again. I thought he did great last night, but didn't think he'd get the votes. Oops.
Cristina is in the bottom 3 again. She's my favorite girl of the bunch, so of course she's in the bottom. Thanks America.
Alex is safe. Duh. Despite a bad Broadway, which is more to say about choreographer Tyce than it does Alex, he's still the power of Alex.
Jose is safe. Bollywood saves the day.
Ashley is safe. I like her but I keep forgetting about her. Apparently I'm the only one. Another wrong guess.
Melinda is in the bottom 3 again. So two repeats in a row again.
Lauren is safe. I predict she's going to go the farthest of all the girls (even if she's not my favorite)
Billy is safe. No really?
Robert is safe. But that means poor Robert, my FAVE right now, is in the bottom 3. America. WHAT THE HELL?

So, the Bottom 3 are: Cristina, Melinda and Robert. I got 1 right.

The Filler:
Brian Gaynor and Remote Control
Song: "Agnus Dei" - Eskmo
Very cute. Loved his Brian Gaynor's "Fireflies" audition and it was nice to see Nigel keep his word and invite him back. It's not more than a novelty act for me, but it's sweet that they've given him this huge forum to perform at, especially with the whole inspiring story behind it.

Debi Nova
6 All-Stars are dancing. I have no idea who this chick is, but I see Mark, Neil, Lauren, Ade, Comfort, and Courtney. Thank you Debi Nova! Oh man that made me so happy!

Dance For Your Life:

Cristina Santana
Song: "Quimbara" - Celia Cruz & Johnny Pachego
Grade: B-
I like her a lot, and I think she's the best girl here, but I still find her solos lacking the full pizzazz needed. It's good, but it should be GREAT.

Melinda Sullivan
Song: "Heels" - Q-Tip
Grade: C+
I used to love tap but I'm finding solo tapping so boring nowadays and Melinda has not convinced me otherwise. (A group in unison is a different, and more interesting story).

Robert Roldan
Song: "Everywhere I Go" - Lissie
Grade: B+
Ok, not up to the best contemporary solos but it's his first, and he looked like he wanted to put in everything into it, so it came out a little cluttered and big, but at least he's got his heart on it, and he's still my underdog to watch for this season.

The Cut:

Robert is saved. Whew. Nigel voted for Melinda to be cut. But Mia and Adam voted for Cristina.
So goodbye Cristina Santana. WHAT?

So I was totally wrong again. I thought Melinda would finally go but apparently the judges really can't let go of a tap dancer so early like they did last year, so they bit the bullet and kicked off the only Ballroom person left. Damn those judges. And they can't cut Robert, one of the best on the show right now (and my personal fave now).

So poor Cristina is let go so that Melinda can live another week for whatever reason that I can't explain. (Maybe they're just picking off in alphabetical order from the bottom 3? Alexie last week, now Cristina before Melinda and Robert this week... hmm... (haha)). I can't believe I wish Nigel had more power now. Ugh.

Apparently the Fantasy Pool I was selling is cancelled (for some inane reason I'm not even going to bother acknowledging) but maybe that's good since I had Cristina at 7th place.

At this point, here's my guess for what WILL happen (but I'm usually totally wrong on these things):

1. Kent
2. Billy
3. Robert
4. Alex
5. Lauren
6. Jose
7. Ashley
8. Adéchiké
9. Melinda

As of last night, I had pegged Robert to win. He's probably ranked farther higher than he's going to be, but I've still got a little hope.

I too was disappointed that the fantasy pool was cancelled. Oh well.
I actually had Christina leaving this week on my list, but I was still surprised because I thought she was one of the best Wednesday night.
I'm so glad Ashley and Lauren were safe because I thought they were amazing.
I'm still smarting for Travis over Nigel's comments about his "Jazz" routine. And look, I get what Nigel was saying - that routine was a little too "lifty" for a jazz routine, but damn was it fantastic. Why can't Nigel and the judges give their "helpful" notes to the choreographers off air? Saying they hate the routine, or the music, or the costumes to the dancer isn't helpful AT ALL.

I don't mind if the judges criticize the choreography to help point out what WAS and WASN'T the dancers fault if it was lacking, but it needs to be across the board. You can't criticize Travis for his "Jazz" and then not criticize Tyce for his "Fosse Broadway" (or anything else he does). That's what irked me and I think most other people. Granted, if it were the other way around, we'd all be gloating.

I'm ok with breaking up the "family" aspect and that choreographers are held accountable but yah, the fact that Travis seemed so blatant against anyone else seemed petty on Nigel's part.

WHAT. Cristina was totally my favourite girl, and I thought her dance w/Pasha was fab! America is crazy.
