So You Think These Are The Top 25 Dances?

Nigel and co. milk the year of SYTYCD with a special tonight (8pm FOX/CTV) of the Top 15 dances from all seasons of the US show (and to tie us over until Season 6 starts next week). Which then leads to the director's cut of Glee with new episodes to follow SYTYCD every week! (No one call me Wednesdays!)

So in honour of the best of the Dance, Joe polled Kirk, Jason, Lauren and I with the resulting Top 26 (there was a tie) Routines from Seasons 1-5 of So You Think You Can Dance.

Meanwhile, I had a HARD TIME PICKING MY Top 25 dances, and I probably went Season 2 heavy but that was just my favorite season. I also tended to favour my favorite dancers (you will see a lot of Travis, Neil, Sabra, Pasha. None of Danny)

Now remember, this was the list I sent Joe last week. Honestly, the order pretty much changed minute by minute, and I had a longer list to comb through and I had a hard time whittling it down to just 25, but alas, here's my Top 25 Dance Routines from Season 1-5 of So You Think You Can Dance:

1. S2 Top 6 (Benji, Travis, Ivan, Donyelle, Heidi, Natalie) Contemporary - Mia Michaels - (Imogen Heap - "Hide and Seek")

2. S2 Travis and Heidi Contemporary - Mia Michaels - (Celine Dion - "Calling You")

3. S3 Sabra and Neil Jazz - Mandy Moore - (Eurythmics - "Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)")

4. S4 Chelsie and Mark Hip-Hop - Tabitha and Napoleon D'Umo - (Leona Lewis - "Bleeding Love")

5. S2 Top 4 (Benji, Donyelle, Heidi, Travis) - Wade Robson - (Justin Timberlake - "Sexy Back")

6. S2 Travis and Benji Hip-Hop - Shane Sparks - (Da Muzicianz (ft. Mr. Collipark)- "Gyrate")

7. S3 Neil and Sara Disco - Doriana Sanchez - (Rachel Stevens - "Knock on Wood")

8. S2 Ivan and Allison Contemporary - Tyce DiOrio - (Annie Lennox - "Why")

9. S3 Lauren and Neil Jazz (Angel/Devil) - Wade Robson (Roisin Murphy - "Night of the Dancing Flame")

10. S4 Katee and Joshua Hip-Hop - Napoleon and Tabitha D'Umo (Jordin Sparks & Chris Brown - "No Air")

11. S3 Sara and Jesus Pop-Jazz - Wade Robson ("Cabaret Hoover" from Les Triplettes de Belleville)

12. S3 Lacey and Kameron Contemporary - Mia Michaels (Elisa - "Dancing")

13. S4 Katee and Twitch Contemporary - Mia Michaels (Duffy - "Mercy")

14. S5 Jeanine and Brandon Pop-Jazz - LaurieAnn Gibson (Jordin Sparks - "Battlefield")

15. S3 Lauren and Pasha Hip-Hop - Shane Sparks (Pitbull - "Fuego")

16. S4 Courtney and Mark Jazz - Sonya Tayeh (Mirah - "The Garden")

17. S2 Top 20 - Brian Friedman (Daft Punk - "Technologic")

18. S2 Benji and Donyelle Broadway - Tyce DiOrio ("You Can't Stop the Beat" from the Hairspray OBR)

19. S2 Top 10 - Wade Robson (Róisín Murphy - "Ramalama (Bang Bang)")

20. S3 Jaimie and Hok Jazz - (Hummingbird & Flower) - Wade Robson ("The Chairman's Waltz" from Memoirs of a Geisha)

21. S5 Randi and Evan Contemporary - (Butt Dance) - Mia Michaels - (Koop featuring Ane Brun - "Koop Island Blues")

22. S4 Katee and Joshua Bollywood - Nakul Dev Mahajan ("Dhoom Taana" from Om Shanti Om)

23. S3 Sabra and Dominic Hip-Hop - Shane Sparks (Ne-Yo - "Make it Work")

24. S5 Kayla and Jason Hip-Hop - (Zombie) - Shane Sparks (Izza Kizza - "They're Everywhere")

25. S4 Pasha and Sara West Coast Swing - Benji Schwimmer with Heidi Groskreutz (Fatboy Slim "Rockafeller Skank")

There are still tons more, and looking at the final list, I realized I should have also considered (amongst many others):
S5 Brandon and Janette - Jazz by Wade Robson

S4 Courtney and Gev - Contemporary by Mandy Moore

S4 Kherington and Twitch - Contemporary by Mia Michaels

And then there's the early weeks where dancers end up getting eliminated despite some great dances, only to be forgotten in the canon of SYTYCD forever. But I always enjoyed:
S3 Shauna and Jimmy's "Ease On Down The Road" Broadway (Tyce DiOrio)
S4 Rayven and Jamie's "American Boy" Hip-Hop (NappyTabs)
S5 Karla and Jonathan's "Falling Slowly" Contemporary (Stacey Tookey).

Hmm... apparently having a guy with a J name can be slightly cursed. Also, S2 isn't listed because they actually got it right, by eliminating the 10 forgetable dancers leaving the perfect Top 10.

I can tell that you struggled to narrow this down, but it's a very good list. There are some that I disagree with (Buttdance? Really?) but in general it matches up in several places with my own top faves.

You know I love me some Evan and paired with Mia, it's a perfect match, and sort of used Evan's best skills in the choreo. Plus it was memorable, which some other great dances (or danced dances) weren't.
