Get Burned This Summer! Burn Notice is back!

Michael Westen is back!

One of my favorite discoveries over the winter was last summers USA Network hit Burn Notice with crushworthy Jeffrey Donovan as Michael Westen, a spy that gets a burn notice (spy speak for fired) and left to survive in his hometown of Miami (Michael Westen: "Most people would be thrilled to be dumped in Miami. Sadly, I am not most people...I've never found a good way to hide a gun in a bathing suit.") where he must deal with his nagging mother (Sharon Gless), the ex-girlfriend that won't go away (Gabrielle Anwar), and his best friend (Bruce Campbell) who is selling him out to the feds. All while trying to figure out who sold him out in the spy world.

So if you haven't seen Season 1, you can catch up with it on DVD (or you should have been watching the last 10 weeks when they repeated the entire first season) which is totally worth it. I'm even placing in in my Best of TV list for the 2007-2008 Television Season (which I should be publishing soon, sorry it's taking so long).

Then start watching Season 2 starting this Thursday, July 11th at 10pm on USA Network!

(And don't forget to enter my contest to win a Burn Notice prize pack!)

It's such a fun show that combines the wit, cynicism and snark of Veronica Mars with the home-made gizmos of MacGyver. The show itself is fun like the later and clever like the first, and moves beyond guilty beach type entertainment television that the show first seems to be.

Jeffrey Donovan is seriously a true discovery (though he was hilarious in his bit part in Hitch and apparently great in the little scene remake Touching Evil) whose face can contort as the best comedians can, all while still remaining true to his characters and all while keeping that handsome face looking so fine!

His dynamics with Fiona, his ex, Sam his supposed best friend, and his mother are so emotionally grounded in reality that it keeps the spy series seem plausible and realistic and gives the fun and frothy show some actual depth which is why I love this show so much.
