SYTYCD7 - Four Bye Three

So You Think You Can Dance - Season 7 - Top 4 Results Night - The Cut From 4 to Final 3 - Ep. 721
Judges: Nigel Lythgoe, Mia Michaels, Adam Shankman and Tyce DiOrio

So it's the cut to the final 3 but it's also another hour for Adam Shankman to plug Step Up 3D which I got to see last week and never ended up bothering to write a full review. You can read my mini-review of Step Up 3D from last week's Top 6 Redux Results Post but just know, the star Rick Malamari is very pretty to look at. If only the rest of the movie were as good as his looks.

So since this is the FIRST TIME the voting audience has FULL CONTROL (a week before Nigel said it was originally going to be), this whole results hour is just a big lead up to finally see if Adéchiké manages to still stay out of the bottom and thus bump a more deserving dancer from the finals.

But first, a lot of filler:

Top 4 Group Dance with the All-Stars
Choreographed by: Dee Caspary
Song: "Drumming Song" - Florence + The Machine
Grade: B+

I love when there's synchronization amongst chaos and the frou frou dresses and the planned randomness made it look messy enough so that when the dancers synched up, it looked really cool. Sadly, I think it played better live on stage than with the bad camerawork that mostly stuck to the front of the stage.

Nice work from Dee Caspary, though while not my favorite group dance and nothing memorable in the long run, was at least enjoyable for some nice moves.

The Predictions from Top 4 Performances:
Bottom Three: Adéchiké, Robert, Lauren

Should Go Home: Adéchiké
Going Home: Lauren

Seriously, who the F#%k is voting for Adéchiké anyways? How has he never been in the bottom 3? How is he still here? And how can there be any other result other than a Top 3 with Robert, Kent and Lauren? And yet I have a bad feeling it ain't gonna happen.

The actual results were:
Lauren is the first to be safe. So we have a girl in the finals!
Kent is safe. Did we really ever doubt that?
Robert is safe. WOOOOOOO!!!
Adéchiké is thus finally cut.

But before all that, there was a lot of filler and the final four got to dance one final solo.

The Experts:
Desmond Richardson from Complexions
Song: "Sympathy for the devil" - The Rolling Stones

I hate to lump all muscularly thin black dancers together but doesn't watching Desmond make you think this is what Adéchiké should be achieving? I think he can and will, and thus the disappointment in him over this series since he hasn't grown as fast as we wanted him to. He's got the technique down, but when you watch Desmond, you can see the passion and emotions and character behind that face.

The Filler:
Janelle Monae performs "Tightrope"

Flo Rida performs "Club Can't Even Handle Me"
With All-Stars Dominic, Twitch, Ade, Courtney, Lauren, Kathryn dancing in the background.

This is the best Black Eyed Peas song they've ever done. And the least annoying! (Wut? You say it's now the BEP?)

Dance For Your Life The Camera For Next Week's Votes:

Lauren Froderman
Style: Contemporary
Song: "Wasted Time" - Me'Shell Ndegeocello
Grade: B+

Kent Boyd
Style: Contemporary
Song: "Dynamite" - Taio Cruz
Grade: B+

Adéchiké Torbert
Style: Contemporary
Song: "Sly" - Various Artists
Grade: B

Robert Roldan
Style: Contemporary
Song: "Mr. Muscle" - Rusko
Grade: A-

But alas, while Adéchiké Torbert managed to stay out of the bottom 3 every single week until tonight, the audience vote that kept him safe all this time, finally failed him when it most counted.

So there you have it. Final THREE!
Kent, Lauren and Robert!!!

I couldn't be happier!
