Project Runway Canada - California Weaving

Resort Wear Galore - Ep. 109 (Watch here)

It's time to take a trip kids and the remaining 5 contestants are whisked away from sunny Toronto (we DO get sun you know... for like, those 8 week a year in the summer) to sunny California for their next task. To construct some resort wear for their models. AND themselves. Nice! I love these tasks, though I totally expected them to be forced to wear it back on the plane ride back to Canada but I guess that was a jetsetters task on Catwalk or Runway America. Can't remember now.

Biddell reverts back to nice Biddell (oh sure, now that he doesn't have immunity anymore) with Stephen again in another whiplash of personality and actually seems genuine. The bitchiness towards Lucian is still there but that's good news for us.

Anyways, Nick Verreos of Project Runway 2 comes in to sub for Brian Bailey/Tim Gunn and Lucian hates it. He doesn't DO this thing. He doesn't do criticism before the deadline. He's been at the top of the game the entire season, but when Nick predicts Lucian might be out this week, does that show that Nick is some jealous teacher or Lucian is really in trouble?

Sadly, it's the later, when Lucian takes his Euroglamour and makes resortwear fit for Eurotrash. His dress looks like something Jennifer Lopez would have rejected in the Miami heat, while poor Lucian looked gayer than a pimp on the French Riviera during the Cannes film fest.

Meanwhile, Biddell, with fake chest print and a Little Red Riding Hood in some massive bleaching accident, takes his wild and hilarious outfit down the runway, dropping Shawn Hewson's jaw and making the others laugh with glee. I love that Iman is letting her emotions show through her regal front, but the crack of a smile from Rita (the Canadian version of Nina Garcia meaning precisely that, like Nina but slightly less sharp, slightly nicer) is hilarious! His model's dress is below with the rest of the pictures of all the designs.

I love that Iman seems to have his soft for Stephen who, since teaming up with Lucian, seems to have taken all his strengths and used them advantageously, this time creating something breezy and crisp that are the definition of sophisticated (if not simplistic) resort wear.

MG continues her bubble love and the judges (except Shawn again) loves it.

So things are not looking good for Lucian, except, Shernett is around, and another former contender falters with an overdetailed piece that grew on Shawn the more he looked at it, but did NOT define resort wear and the judges fault her for not listening and not editing.

In the end, even though the judges hated Lucian's designs the most, his previous track record saved him while the poor showings from the last 2 weeks cemented Shernett's loss and in the end, Shernett just didn't measure up.

I have to say, considering the first few weeks, I can't believe Stephen has now outlasted Carlie, Kendra and now Shernett, but he is improving fast and just in time to perhaps get him into the finals. Still, I can't believe he's still here! He's like the underdog story for this edition of Project Runway.

Here is the rest of the designer's outfits:

Biddell's:

Lucian's:

MG's winning outfits:

Shernett's losing design:

Stephen's design:

I Pay My Gym To Watch Food On TV

Is it masochistic to watch the Food Network while I'm on the elliptical machine while I'm at the gym? No wonder I never really actually lose weight. It's like a self-defeating purpose. I come off that thing hungrier than ever.

It's the media version of the carrot on the stick. At least it usually keeps me on the thing for at least the hour. (Only two things can keep me on longer than I would last, and that's a good TV show or a run of good music videos that I can watch on my screen (whoever invented TV's directly built into exercise machines is a F#$KEN GENIUS), or hotties working out in front of me, but since I tend to go at an ungodly hour on weekdays (at 6am), it's a much less hottie to me ratio than I would like).

What's worse, its screwing up my routine because I get too lazy to get off to do other things so that I can continue watching the food porn of Jamie Oliver, Giada De Laurentiis and Nigella Lawson.

Seriously, last week I ended up watching Nigella Feasts (one of the women I would possibly switch for by the way) as I'm literally drooling and sweating on the machine. Note to others, don't take my machine directly after I've been on it. (And what's with the people who can't even wait until I go get the spray to wipe it down properly and jump onto my machine right after? Ew).

(All this by the way is to gratuitously prove that I actually do work out, so next time you see me, tell me I look skinnier even if it's a big fat lie. I don't care that you're lying like a Republican in a sex scandal. Just do it. I need that delusional feeling and thus I can continue watching my Food TV while I work out. It's like some kind of mobius strip of calories.)

Michael Chiarello from Easy Entertaining is pretty enjoyable to watch as well! I'm also a big fan of Top Chef but again, since we are practically a whole season behind the Americans, I haven't bothered talking about how irritaing Hung is or how cool Dale is.

Anyways, here's some more gratuitous photos of Dave Lieberman of Good Deal with Dave Lieberman who really doesn't do anything complicated or anything but I guess that's the point of his show. Whatever, it's fun to watch (and at least in Canada, it plays in the afternoons and evenings when I can watch on weekend workouts!).

What, you think I actually cook after watching all this stuff? (Actually, I'm not bad when I have the time or energy...)

Why he's on the shopping carts I have no idea and normally he'd look like a tool but I'll give it to youthfulness and charm and forgive him for this:

iPod Music Playlist - Just Cause They Were Emailed To Me Edition

I don't know why I've been sitting on this, but I wrote this a week ago and just haven't been bothered to publish it. Anyways, work has been crazier than I thought it would be (considering, again, we are supposed to winding DOWN to nothing and yet have had MORE work to do than ever. I'm. Annoyed. What is this? Work at work? Blasphemy.). Anyways, here's just two new songs this time around. Both were emailed to me and I'm just posting it just because.

John Mayer - "Say"

Teatro - "Music of the Night" - Another Il Divo type boy band. Note the "look" when they gaze into the camera. Hilarious! Not bad considering I hate this song. It warms my heart in that Westlife way.

Chuck - On The Casey

Chuck Versus The Crown Vic - Ep. 111

Last week, we saw Sarah left with the dilema of choosing between leaving forever with Bryce on some secret lone mission, or staying with nice comfortable Chuck.

Well, duh, it ain't the season finale (yet) and she's on the main credits and it's still only season 1 and she hasn't gotten famous enough to want to leave for a "movie career" so of course we knew Sarah wouldn't be picking Bryce. Except she didn't exactly pick Chuck either.

This week, there's money laundering, a yacht, Morgan meeting Anna's parents visiting from Taiwan, and we see Casey actually has a life outside of spying. Oh, and Sarah is NOT a morning person (I hear ya, and I hear ya from 8am at work (should have been 7:30 but I was late from all the snow)).

Another fun and fantastic episode, all with grenade launchers, the Buy More holiday party and mistletoe and another fantastic twist at the end that keeps the show moving forward (even though I was surprised they decided to do something like that this early in the game since they probably could have stretched it out for a bit longer if they wanted to but I'll get to that after the jump).

When Jeff, Lester and Chuck goes on a yacht to install electronics, Chuck discovers that philanthropist billionaire Lon Kirk is counterfeitting money. Chuck and Sarah must attend a charity casino to find out more and they must act as a couple. Sarah, who has been missing work a lot lately, insists she'll do it for work, while Chuck seems left out in the cold. Things are awkward and strained at the event, when Sarah must flirt with Lon for the job's sake, but this makes Chuck jealous.

Awwww...

Sarah purposely pushes Chuck away during the case, making sure she doesn't make the same "kiss" mistake she did when the "bomb" was about to go off. Poor Chuck.

Meanwhile, Chuck tries to bond with Casey as Casey polishes his baby, a 1985 Crown Vic, which sadly gets blown up later on in the episode when Chuck reconfigures the coordintates for a grenade to the only available GPS code available to them at the time. Casey: "I hate this assignment".

While Casey continues his hard ass look (seriously, Adam Baldwin rocks that look!), you could tell Chuck is softening him a bit, just as Chuck has affected Sarah despite her lack of acknowledgement. So when the director warns Casey that the new beta version of the Intersec is up and running, forewarning of Chuck's inevitable obsoleteness, and that Casey will have to take care of that. !!!!???? OMG. They ARE going there!

In the meantime, Sarah and Chuck play friends for now (despite Jeff's push) and Morgan, who had tried to become a 110% version of himself to impress Anna's parents, gets the whole spiel about Anna being embarrased in front of him because of the fact that she resorts back to her goodgirl self in their presence. Yah yah, we've all heard that before. Oh wait, that's cause I've said that before.

So at this point Morgan has become tolerable though I wouldn't shed any tears if he goes to Hawaii and Henry Tang comes back. Anna (Julia Ling), Jeff and Lester are amusing, but I think only relatively speaking against Morgan. Then again, I always assume I'll be annoyed at the Buy More staff but usually I laugh, though a lot of that has to do with Big Mike now.

The Amazing Race, Desperate Housewives, Brothers & Sisters - Karma, Nature and Lena are Total Bitches

The Amazing Race - We've Really Burned Bridges, for Sure - Ep. 1205
Desperate Housewives - Something's Coming - Ep. 409
Brothers & Sisters - Holy Matrimony! - Ep. 209

Boy, Karma is sure a bitch sometimes, especially on The Amazing Race and Desperate Housewives. Meanwhile, the cavalcade of 80's stars continues on Brothers & Sisters, this time with everyone gathering in one episode for the very special episode of Kitty and Robert's wedding, but with a no-show from the very much anticipated return of hot-reverend Jason (Eric Winter).

Anyways, my head hurts from the weekend and I wish I could say it was all the drinking but it's not. My brain just hurts because it doesn't feel like operating today (or really the past month actually) and it's now December and I'm officially already on holiday mode even though my job isn't quite yet so this will be more twisted (I know. Sad of me in even trying) and messier than normal.

The Amazing Race: I realised I still don't know what Rachel looks like because we barely ever see her and if we do, I'm usually fascinated/disgusted by TK's hair that I forget she's there.

For once, no animals, instead, the Travelocity Roaming Gnome is back. I'd make a comment/joke about product placement right now but I'm just not that smart right now.

Nathan and Jen continue to self destruct, then make up, then self destruct, then make up. It's just too easy.

Meanwhile, the blondes (who really HAD to use the U-Turn last week to save themselves) are now infighting over the strategic move forcing Karma to bite back leaving them last in the race this week where the teams were back in Europe racing towards Lithuania.

On Desperate Housewives: A twister is coming and the big twist is one of the housewives husbands is going to die. Oh no Doug Savant! Whew, luckily it occurred to me that technically speaking, Victor was still married to Gaby even as Gaby and Carlos were about to sneak away from Wisteria Lane, Edie and Victor with hidden off-shore bank accounts in hand.

Of COURSE there's only ONE copy of the hidden accounts and Edie manages to get ahold of it when she's mistaken for Gaby and is just handed the account info. Gaby catches Edie leaving with it and fights for the documents just as the twister touches down on Wisteria Lane, of course blowing away the ONLY documents and thus, the millions hidden away by Carlos. They are forced to hide in Edie's house (after a nice push from a reluctant Gaby) and they make friends. Of course.

Meanwhile, Victor and Carlos fight to the death during the twister, until Victor gets stabbed by a white picket fence (how appropriate) and Carlos gets impaled by something (which was sadly sort of funny the way it was played out. Carlos, not Victor, that was just gross).

A crazed Tina Fey lookalike who is stalking Adam Mayfair is invited in by a nosy Bree, and just as the Mayfairs join the Hodges and crazy Tina Fey locks herself in the only safe place in the house, the twister comes forcing the rest of them into a closet. A closet where the truth comes out and Katherine might not be the villain we thought her to be, or at least, her vision of her perfect marriage comes crumbling down, bonding her and Bree for just a little bit. The secret from Chicago is out and ... uh, that's it? He slept with crazy Tina Fey? So what? We're a cynical bunch and sleeping around is soap opera 101, we expected a bigger twist(er)... or is this done with yet? Dum Dum DUM...

Something horrible is going to happen to Lynette (cause doesn't it always?) but it's not having her husband killed by the twister or suffocating from allergies to Ida's cat that he's forced to bunker down with at Mrs. McCluskey's house. No, it's having her entire house destroyed by the twister... Wait. Was that Mrs. McCluskey's house or Lynette's? With the Scavo family or without?

Either way, does ANYTHING good ever happen to Lynette?

And I'm just going to ignore the whole Susan Mike pillpopping pushed over a staircase storyline. All good that came out of it was a scene with James Denton giving puppy dog eyes. The rest of this storyline was mostly ignorable. Especially since the rest was pretty great/horrific/funny/touching.

Though I still can't believe they tried killing Victor TWICE, revive him, then kill him again with a natural disaster. Just when I was getting excited about crazed angry Victor, but I figured he had to return to Mad Men at some point.

Meanwhile on Brothers & Sisters: Kitty and Robert finally get married. Crazy Garry Marshall is back and everyone in that family is ignoring Kevin for dumping Jason. Meanwhile, Scotty gets ignored at the wedding. Chevy Chase smokes up and Danny Glover comes to push Chevy out of Nora's heart's way. Meanwhile, in possibly the best line of the night, Kevin explains that he threatened to kill the senator when Kevin, Tommy and Chevy Chase are locked up by the secret service. Trust me. It makes more sense coming out of Matthew Rhys' mouth. Funnier too.

Anyways, a cute episode with a billion plotlines, too much Lena and her seducing ways again, Justin finding out that everyone knew about Lena's affair with Tommy, and generally just a mess with that storyline, but the wedding was cute if not more memorable. For THE wedding episode, I expected more but maybe it's good the alcoholic Walker clan has chilled a bit, becoming more realistic and less operatic.

The guy trying to blackmail Robert, that Kitty and Kevin blackmailed, is back, and things almost seem resolved but aren't, but are left for future episodes. Uh okay, whatever to get Danny Glover back into the episode I guess?

Oh yeah, and Ken Olin reunites with real life wife Patricia Wettig as he appears at Holly's door. Of course, we knew this would happen at some point since he's also a producer.

Anyways, here was this week's placings on The Amazing Race:

TK & Rachel - 1st Place
Kynt & Vyxsin - 2nd Place
Ron & Christina - 3rd Place
Azaria & Hendekea - 4th Place
Nathan & Jennifer - 5th Place
Nicolas & Donald - 6th Place
Shana & Jennifer - eliminated

Friday Night Lights - Wanting More Cabo In The Pants

Seeing Other People - Ep. 208

Okay, WHAT??? And before I continue, I'm going to preface this to non-FNL watchers that again, this is one of the BEST shows currently on TV and you must watch Season 1 in a marathon session and then catch up with Season 2. However, there have been some inconsistencies which I've forgiven because the acting is amazing and its history has earned it some getting-out-of-jail free passes. If Friday Night Lights can turn an arrogant character like Smash (above) into something still eminently watchable and fascinating (though it helps to throw him a feisty smart mama like Corina), then Friday Night Light deserves our attention. That being said...

WHAT? That last scene. You know what I'm talking about. I mean, it's probably the best thing he could have done...7 episodes ago but NOW? After so many other people have tried to help him cover it up?

And all thanks to good ol' truth telling Christian Lyla. I know she had no idea what Landry was talking about but ARGH!

Also, why would the cops even consider letting the rapists' brother see Tyra for HIS sense of closure? That was sort of low.

And Julie and Tami? I'm actually on neither side, but when Tami warns the new hot teacher to stay away from Julie, and Julie hears the gossip about Tami calling him a pedophile and screams into the guidance office in tears, I wanted to smack Julie even though I kinda understood her plight.

And as lovely (and funny) as it was for Tami to want a night out, and not the romantic wine and dine one Eric had in mind, and as no-you-did-n't it was when a frustrated and selfish Eric accused Tami of not caring about taking care of the family as she came back from her fun night, it just felt off when Tami told Eric about the Julie incident.

It all just felt slightly off and out of character. Actually, Popwatch says it all here (since I'm hurtin' from the "it's Dec. and I'm desperate for a holiday and the weekend just wasn't enough anymore" blues. 7 more days. 7 more days before my current contract is up...oh wait. then I'm unemployed again... (um, secretly, I'm woohooing actually but I guess I should feign like I want to work)).

What did work was Tim Riggins redeeming himself to the football team by half apologizing/half mocking them. Hilarious. What didn't quite work, the meth lab that he found. Yes, I know. They are everywhere now, including the burbs and small towns but it felt so one-off, worse than the murder.

What also isn't working is Saracen romancing two girls. Actually, that I could kind of see, in that he does it accidentally as opposed to a Riggins-like on purpose. But the maid? Carlotta? I would almost buy it more if she was trying to seduce him or something. Though that's a bit misogynistic of me, no? Or is that even the right word? Still, I guess we all knew this was coming as soon as we saw her and it will make his inevitable return to Julie all the more fulfilling but why can't he just be a good buddy friend to Landry?

I liked that Carlotta has become the caretaker at home, almost becoming a mother-figure at home but I guess that's why the Saracen romance creeps me out. It's more Oedipal than dirty-maid fantasy to me.

The most consistent storyline was probably Smash's, all cocky and egotistical, attending a recruiting trip to one of the colleges where he gets to have "Cabo in his pants". At least until he gets chased away by the biggest and meanest football player on the team, leaving Smash naked out on the street, and getting saved by Saracen, who kindly asks, how was having "Cabo in his pants?". Hilarious! Why can't we have more of the simplicity of that type of scene again?
