So You Think You Can Dance - Place Your Bets

So You Think You Can Dance - Auditions - Vegas Week Part 1 - Ep. 504
Judges: Nigel Lythgoe, Mary Murphy, Mia Michaels, Lil C, Debbie Allen, Adam Shankman

It's already Vegas week where the cuts will be brutal and quick. I always forget how fascinating this whole process is (well, they DID make a whole musical out of it, and now a terrific documentary about casting dancers for the show about casting dancers), though I just never know how to blog about it since things are edited so quickly and people are cut left, right and centre. Right off the bat, the dancers must redo a solo and cuts already happen right off the bat. Before any choreography or group dances even begins.

UPDATE: My random notes are below but here's a discussion about last night's Vegas auditions with LowResJoe, TwoP Lauren S, ABChau and myself.

So here's random notes I managed to type in while I watched Vegas week:

Alex Wong, 22 from Vancouver! now Miami, FL
Whoa. GO CANADA!!!

Tony Bellisimo, 20, Buffalo, NY
Our neighbours across the lake! Funny routine with the pics of Nigel!

Travis (football dad's son) and Chimezay (?) are cut. It's fast and furious.

I think it's Maksim Kapitannikov, the ballroom guy? who is beside the girl that gets cut who was pretty good. (Or one of the ballroom guys at least). (Actually it's not, but I like Maksim too... now who's the guy I'm thinking about?).

And love the Kasprzak brothers and Phillip Chbeeb. And Asuka and Ricky Sun. And Nobuya.

And the cuts keep coming. NATALIE. As in the alternative to Katee last year. Her brilliant solo that made Sonya speechless. Was CUT. WHAT?

Brandon got a speech but Nigel saved him.

The groups are fast and furious but Ryan Kasprzak and his group are GREAT with Nerdography. I'm guessing Ryan probably choreographed most of it. Seriously, if he doesn't make it onto the show, they need to hire him as a choreographer.

Silky is cut.
Amanda is cut.
Nabuya is cut.

Tony B. gets a second chance.

Megan Kinney continues, but sister Caitlin gets to dance for her life. (To Yael Naim's "To Make You Feel My Love" I think). Caitlin is saved.

Yay, The Kasprzak's (I'd better learn to spell that! Cause They'd better both get to the Top 20)

Tyce DiOrio puts the girls and boys to West Side Story (perfect, since I've been listening to the new OBR of the revival of West Side Story all day at work yesterday and daydreaming the dances in my head the whole time. Seriously, you NEED to go see the revival! If only for Ryan Steele and his kick. My sister and I were just saying that we NEED to see it live again just for the dancing).

Wow. Bianca was cut. Again.
Gaby Rojas, Priscilla, Megan Kinney are all cut. Wow. Brutal.

16 girls are still left. Including Caitlin, Ginette and Asuka. Only 6 more cuts left. 16 guys left. Including Brandon, the Hawaiian long named guy, the Kazprzak brothers, Ricky Sun, Philip Chbeeb, Jason, Tony and Alex Wong.

And of course, we won't find out the final cut until Thursday night (at 9pm).

You seems like the right expert to ask about SYTYCD. I've googeled for some days, but still haven't found the song used for Mia contemporary coreography under Las Vegas week season 5. In the US they danced to "Belief (Stripped Version)" – Gavin DeGraw", but when I watch the episode on Norwegian tv, they had an other song, though the same dance/tape (I'm sure this is due to some publishing/song rights). They've put an other song on top of the original music.

The song they had in Norway (and maybe other European countries) had no text, just a lot of "aaa". Pretty nice song. Any chance you know which song that is?

I was supposed to put in a link to YouTube here, but the video is removed due to terms of use violation.

WHAT?! They overlay ANOTHER song? Wow. That's interesting. I never realized that. Sorry I can't help you out but I have no idea but that's so interesting that they do that. Who knew!?

I'm quite in a shock myself. The exact same comments and clips/cutting as in the us version.

I'll continue my search, and post an answer when I find it!

:-D

"It definitely know there were multiple songs for Mia’s choreography. It looks like the second song used for Mia’s choreography was Mia’s choreography? was to the song “Slow Me Down” by Emmy Rossum"

...which means I'm looking for the third song. Still searching :)
