SYTYCDC3 - More Great Dancers Let Go

So You Think You Can Dance Canada - Season 3 - Top 18 Results Night - The Cut from 18 to 16 - Ep. 312
Judges: Jean-Marc Généreux, Tré Armstrong, Luther Brown, Mia Michaels

Top 18 Group Dance
Choreographed by: Mia Michaels
Style: 60's Jazz
Song: "Let Go" - Mitzi Gaynor
Grade: A

I LOVED THAT. Granted I'm a sucker for that 60's Fosse-ish style and with the costumes and the unity of the 18 dancers, it's such a fun dance to watch that I could have watched it for a few more numbers. But I was a little surprised it was a Mia Michaels routine. Seems so much more fun and light for Mia's usual moody self.

Loved the colours and the costumes and the use of props and the symmetry and unity amongst the dancers. Just so fun! And the dancers totally delivered (even though I couldn't figure out who anybody was underneath the slicked hair and the coloured suits.

My only complaint was the use of cigarettes. I know, it's part of that era, but really, is it that necessary? (Yes, I'm part of that camp).

My Predictions from the Top 18 Performances
Predicted Bottom 3 Couples:
Kirsten and Jera
Claudia and Edgar
Julia and Jesse

Should Go Home: Claudia and ... Jera?

I just realized I like all the remaining guys at this point and I need another round to determine who should be cut. Since I don't think Jera's poor showing this week is entirely his fault.

Going Home: Claudia and Jesse

The Actual Bottom 3 Couples Are:
Kirsten and Jera
Claudia and Edgar
Julia and Jesse

Well, I was sadly correct. Even the order it was announced was the same.

Dance for Your Life

Kirsten Wicklund
Style: Contemporary Ballet
Song: "The Gulag Orkestar" - Beirut
Grade: B-
I felt like it was a nice slow solo to show technique but the music and her outfit reminded me of a sordid bellydance of sorts that negated the skills.

Claudia Primeau
Style: Ballroom
Song: "When I Grow Up" - Pussycat Dolls
Grade: C
I liked her dress, but I felt she didn't do much with it.

Julia Harnett
Style: Latin/Ballet
Song: "Perhaps" - Sunray feat. Kym Mazelle
Grade: B+
She actually seemed to care about wanting to stay on the show and showed a very classy, mature solo.

Jera Wolfe
Style: Ballet/Breaker
Song: "Hey" - Pixies
Grade: A
Since he's in the bottom for the 2nd week in a row, it's time to pull out the big guns and show off those pecs and abs! And I'm buying! While he's had a bad streak with the partnering (which I partly blame on his partner and the styles he keeps getting), it would be a shame to send off someone with the unique background of B-Boy/Breaker with Ballet, which he nicely combines in his solos.

Edgar Gilbert-Reyes
Style: Hip-Hop
Song: "Nobody" - Ne-Yo
Grade: B
Strangely, usually Hip-Hoppers do better in the solos but I feel his solos are typical Hip-Hop stuff but I've really enjoyed him in his partnering routines (especially this week). It's too bad he's here in the bottom, but he needs more exciting solos.

Jesse Weafer
Style: Contemporary
Song: "Squander" - Skunk Anansie
Grade: B+
He's got a lot of skill and lots to like but he needs to hone them in both his partnering and his solos, but I think given more time, he would grow nicely. If he has the chance.

Going Home

Julia Harnett is going home. WHA???
The one with the best solo? The one that is mature enough to really make something of this competition? I know she may not have connected as well with the audience because of her maturity, but I still can't tell Claudia or Kirsten from the lineup. I'm really disappointed here.

Now, I really love all three guys, so I'm really not sure who I would really want to go, but I'm glad Jesse is safe, but I'm really sad that Jera Wolfe is ultimately announced as the latest eliminated dancer. I just think he hasn't had the chance to truly show what his opposing skills can really offer up.

Something I have never understood about the format of this show is what is with the stupid fucking cheering of the crowd of 10 down to 1 during the last 10 seconds of the solos? Wtf I don't get it, are all the young girls in the audience excited about the dancers not having enough time to show their solos? It's as if they hate the dancers! Dumb format!

yah, I think it started in Season 1 and just stuck. But it is REALLY annoying and I seems like an abrupt way to end the solo, especially at how artfully they're starting to be done now.
