SYTYCD7 - And The Winner Is...

So You Think You Can Dance - Season 7 - Top 3 Results Night - The Cut From 3 to a Winner - Ep. 723 - Season Finale
Judges: Nigel Lythgoe, Mia Michaels, Adam Shankman, Tyce DiOrio, Mary Murphy, Stacey Tookey, Kenny Ortega

... someone.

I actually haven't watched the finale yet (due to a work event (another opening for Love, Loss, and What I Wore in Toronto. Come see it!) and I'm housesitting for someone without PVR OR Cable. WHA? Heaven forbid. I know. What did I get myself into? Why do I have these type of friends?).

But I've heard already. So I'll probably expand this post for posterity's sake, plus to keep posting things with Neil Haskell in it, but in the meantime, here's the gist:

The Predictions from the Top 3 Performances:
Should Happen:
1st: Robert
2nd: Kent
3rd: Lauren

But damn it's pretty close based on tonight alone so I'm taking into account of the whole season.

Will Happen:
1st: Robert
2nd: Kent
3rd: Lauren

Kent's been the front-runner ever since Alex had to drop out but I think the underdog Robert, who has survived several bottom 3's is finally peaking at the right time. Granted, not even so much peaking, but finally being noticed for his excellent dance skills and losing his perceived arrogant personality that people had because he had a dark handsome and smoldering look that didn't jive with the nerdy goofy silliness and humility that he showed on stage and in the video clips.

The actual results were:

Damn was I wrong. Really really wrong.

3rd:Robert Roldan

2nd: Kent Boyd

And that means 1st place... the WINNER is:
Lauren Froderman

So while I thought I was cool with any of the three winning, my gut reaction made me realize apparently I'm not.

I know, many of you have become Lauren backers and the boys may have split the crush vote but while I still think she's great, I STILL feel like she was just on the VERGE of breaking through, but have never quite topped Kent or Robert in any particular week. It's funny that a girl finally wins again but doesn't give me the satisfaction I would have gotten had Allison, Katee, Kathryn or Ellenore would have given me had those other girls won.

But that's just me. I know most of you are very happy with the results. I thought I would be. Congrats to Lauren. Just my gut reaction dropped once I heard, especially when my favorite, Robert, came last.

I made the bold prediction that Kent would be beat but I picked the wrong competitor! Ha. What do I know.

(Also, to clear up things, Kent would be totally my type, not Robert... so just to get that out of the way. (Not that I would throw Robert out of bed either... hehe))

Well, there you go, the end of the very tumultuous Season 7. So see you next week for the premiere of So You Think You Can Dance Canada Season 3. For those of you not in Canada, follow along! The show had some of the best dancers in the first 2 seasons (granted we also had the most annoying host and judges that manage to blather on more than Nigel, Mia and Adam combined (and I'm talking EACH judge). You may love Jean-Marc as a choreographer and he's super sweet as a judge but he doesn't know when to stop) so there's huge hope for Season 3! Plus at least our choreographers rock! (Stacey Tookey and Sean Cheesman anyone? And many more!)

In the meantime, there was a lot of time to fill.

Like this As-amusing-as-I-heard-it-was Ellen DeGeneres and Twitch dance recreating Napoleon and Tabitha's Hip-Hop Twitch originally did with Alex Wong.

Yeah, I was pretty sad when Robert came last too, but when Lauren won instead of Kent, I was kind of happy for her. But honestly I should be used to this. Nico aside, my favorite NEVER wins. It's really annoying. But I'm also not worried because most (if not all) of my favorites are working and I get to see them in youtube at least. It sucks to leave in Brazil and not be able to see them in person, but, what are gonna do?

Also, I'm sooo pumped for SYTYCD CA, just can't wait! I so glad that they are doling the auditions super fast this year, I think everyone should follow suit. And as you said, I LOVE Jean-Marc, and he the sweetest guy, but as a judge... I'm certainly not looking forward to that!

For the love of God LONGER SOLOS PLEASE!! Nigel if you are going to change anything- change that! What the hell can you get out of a 30 second solo? About the only people who could pack enough into 30 seconds were Brandon, Gev and Jeanine and that's it! Longer solos! Is it too much to ask for a minute?!

Vance said...

True, just when you got into the solos, that Soyouthinkyoucandance would cut the song right at a great moment.

What else should they change? Other than the godawful set?

And getting rid of Tyce...

The evil clowns should take Tyce away and leave that lovely Mr. Liff to do Broadway from now on!

I was so rooting for Robert even though I knew he wouldn't win, but he had some lovely interview segments where he came across as very loving of his family and friends, he grew as a dancer, he's one of the gang now, and I'm sure he'll go on to have great opportunities. While Kent will still be a teacup-sized dancer, no matter how good he is. I'm sure Lauren will get work, and I hope she gets to grow up a little. I didn't hate her but she was just kind of meh for me, personality-wise, and her dancing, although technically really great, doesn't yet have the groundedness of Katee or Kathryn.

I really loved getting to see Allison Holker dance this season, and Pasha was always a treat. But when Lauren and Robert danced, I realized how much I missed the partnerships that had a chance to grow over a few weeks. I wonder if that will come back?

P.S> how much do I love Ellen for that routine, love love loved it!

I hear that Nigel is thinking of mixing up the old and new format.

Have a Top 20, but then bring in All-Stars for Top 10. Granted, wouldn't that require more episodes? Which might not be a bad idea anyways. Or still have 2 dancers cut during the Top 10?
