SYTYCDC3 - Four on the Floor
So You Think You Can Dance Canada - Season 3 - Final 4 Performance - Eps. 323
Judges: Jean-Marc Généreux, Tré Armstrong, Blake McGrath, Luther Brown
Final performance night already. Why am I not excited this year? It's like the show and CTV did everything they could do to make me lose interest.
Don't get me wrong. I still love the dancers and all, but between some poor judges picks, and then a quick switch that dumped half the dancers last week in one fell swoop (with no previous audience warning), leaving Mackenzie on the elimination dancefloor, one of my favorite shows is really trying me. Makes one long for Nigel Lythgoe again. And man do I miss Cat Deeley.

Amanda Cleghorn and Denys Drozdyuk
Style: Salsa
Choreographed by: Gustavo Vargas
Song: "I Love Salsa" - N'Klabe

At this point, the top girl and top guy left in the competition and they make this Salsa sizzle. Simple as that.

Song: "Salvation" - Scanners
Grade - Dance: B+
Grade - Girl: B+
Grade - Boy: A
Didn't love the piece as much. Sorry Nico.
But Denys looked superb and outdanced Janick, despite this being her genre. The judges seemed to agree and praised Denys but gave some pointers to Janick.
Here's the video of Janick and Denys' Contemporary (via CTV):
Janick Arseneau and Jeff Mortensen
Style: Jazz Fusion
Choreographed by: Sean Cheesman
Song: "Come on Girl" - Taio Cruz ft. Luciana Caporoso
Grade - Dance: A-
Grade - Girl: A
Grade - Boy: A-
Didn't these two just do Jazz Funk two weeks ago? How is this different?
Judges loved it and thought it was clean, and while I admit that Sean's dance was fun and interesting as always, and Janick and Jeff did a beautifully clean dance in their solo moments, I found the tiny moments when they needed to connect was a bit shaky, though mainly on Jeff's part this time.

Style: Contemporary
Choreographed by: Sabrina Matthews
Song: "Nowhere to Stand" - k.d. lang
Grade - Dance: A-

Grade - Boy: A
Um, who knew abuse could look so cool in dance form? I loved some of the powerful dance moves to convey the "abuse". Though it let Amanda looked loose and sloppy on purpose which is a shame since her lines are so beautiful, but she played the part perfectly with an amazing emotional intensity that was match with the usual smiley Jeff. This was a perfect piece for Jeff for his body's lines and strength and it helped to give him an opposing persona to fall into that lets him differentiate himself from his usual sunny and cherubic personality.

Sorry to say but I found Janick got lost within that and I found myself noting the boys the most, and then Amanda.

The Final Roundup:
So the choreographers here really like to have the guys shirtless (or almost) in the dances, don't they? Not complaining. Just mentioning!

2nd: Amanda and Denys' Salsa
3rd: Janick and Jeff's Jazz Fusion
4th - Worst of the Night: Janick and Denys' Contemporary

2nd: Jeff
My Final Ranking (with previous week's ranking in parenthesis):

I found it sad in the interview/intro segment how Jeff seemed almost ashamed of his "tricks". He has beautiful tricks, and I found his solos suffered sometimes when he tried to stay too generic in whatever style he was highlighting for a particular week. In the end I just consider it another symptom of the wonderful sytycd canada judging. Hopefully the winner will be a male.
