I'm a Gleek

LA Times new item with a slightly different spin (and spoiler) on "Don't Stop Believin'":

Fall Preview #1

Fall Preview #2

So at this point, we know they'll be doing which songs?:
"Somebody To Love" - Queen
"We Will Rock You" - Queen
"It's My Life" - Bon Jovi
"Confessions" - Usher
"Halo" - Beyonce
"Walking on Sunshine" - Katrina & The Waves
"Golddigger" - Kanye West
"No Air" - Jordin Sparks
"Last Name" - Carrie Underwood
"Maybe This Time" - Cabaret with Kristin Chenowith singing it as a guest:

But considering in the pilot alone, they cut out scenes of "One" (A Chorus Line), who knows what will actually make it to air:

"Leaving on a Jet Plane" with Matthew Morrison's Will Shuester singing:

And the cut original opening with a 1993 Glee club singing "(Shake Shake Shake) Shake your Booty" combined with "That's The Way I Like It":

I know these posters are old but I love them anyways and never posted them so here they are:

Mattew Morrison as Will Schuester:

Lea Michelle as Rachel Berry:

Jenna Ushkowitz as Tina:

Kevin McHale as Arty:

So You Think You Can Dance - Auditions Week And I'm Only Talking About The Good. Not the Bad or the Ugly

So You Think You Can Dance - Auditions - Miami, FL, Memphis, TN, Los Angeles, CA, Seattle, WA - Eps. 502, 503

Last week, they actually had a pretty balanced show and actually kept the trainwreck auditions to a low. Apparently they saved them for the second week, with fewer good auditions shown in full. Well, good thing I couldn't watch it live and got to watch it with the ability of the FF button. So again, I'm not doing a thorough recap of the auditions. I can't be bothered with the bad ones.

Still, you gotta admit, the good auditions, and the moment they get their tickets to Vegas, are such feel-good moments that it's worth enduring the bad ones.

Here's simply a rundown of those with potential to be in the finals:

Miami
Guest Judge: Tyce DiOrio

Priscilla Marrero, 23, Miami, FL
She's cute and generally good but didn't wow me like she wowed the judges but she's one of those types that I think will slowly show off her real skills as the show goes on, and I'll probably come to love her.

Janette Manrara, 25, Miami, FL and Romulo Villaverde, 20, Hialeah, FL
Janette made it far last year but not sure far enough. Is it me or will the Top 20 look a lot like last years rejects? Though with this show, that's actually okay. You can learn more skills in dancing and improv over the course of a year, when technically you can do that in singing but I think it happens a lot less.

Joseph Smith, 20, Orlando, FL
A fun and sassy Hip Hop with lots of personality (in a good way). Sassy and Hip Hop? Yes. That's how I felt. Tyce was half impressed. "Schwam"

Erik "Silky" Moore, 19, Miami, Fl
Tap Dancing to "Thriller". There's a spirited presence with this kid. Like he would make a good Fame character so that we could see him grow beyond the tap to see him excel in everything else. Here's hoping we see that here!

Paris Torres , 19, Seattle, WA
Ballet. Miss Washington. To Yael Naim's cover of Britney Spears "Toxic". I thought it was going to be a disaster just from the way they hinted at the Miss Washington, except she actually she seemed normal. So which is it?

Henry Rivero, 19, Miami, FL
Megan Kinney, 18, Annapolis, MD
Alex Wong, 22, Miami, FL
Then they showed three great dancers in a quick montage, enough to see they were pretty great, but not enough to devote a segment on each of them when instead they could do the stripper, the hyperventilator, the out-of-sync-twins and so on...

Geo Smith, 21, Miami, FL
It's The Lion King but that can actually be a good thing.

Talia Rickards, 24, Miami, FL
The widower. And unlike Danny Gokey, I didn't want to smack this widower. (Even Idolatry couldn't change my opinion like it did with Matt, Scott, Megan, etc.. Danny wasn't a total douche but there was still a bit of doocheyness in him)

Memphis
Guest Judge: Lil C

Mariko Flake, 24, Memphis, TN
Reminds me of some 80's hip hop. No? And the era of the fun hip hoppers? No? Without the attitude and all that negativity? No? (Oh yah, Nigel mentions this style Memphis Jukin' was kept underwraps for 20 years). Very entertaining and I liked the positive vibes around this guy!

Caitlin Kinney, 21, Annapolis, MD
She's real pretty and blonde. She kinda reminds me of a female Travis Wall. Not very showy at this point, but it's the subtlety of the details that are her strong points. Her sister was Megan who got briefly shown earlier in the ep.

Anna Dunn, 18, Jackson, MS
Dad passed away. Dance is her outlet to deal. She deals really well, that's for sure. Another great contemporary dancer. Beautiful. Nigel notes that she moves her head TOO much in an over-choregraphed piece.

Travis Prokop, 20, Texaco, NM
He has a nice tall body with the potential for great lines. He still seems a little rough but there's potential. The judges pretty much agree that he needs to get stronger and clean up.

Evan Kasprzak, 21, West Bloomfield, MI
Ryan Kasprzak, 29, West Bloomfield, MI
I remember Evan from last year and I liked him a lot. Great Broadway, jazzy dance, cute face, great attitude. and I ove the brotherly love between him and older brother Ryan this year. Nigel praises the routine for the great choreography (by big bro!). It really is great that I had to watch it over again a few times. I think Evan needs to take over Tyce DiOrio's job (who I never really thought was a great choreographer, and as the auditions prove, is kind of annoying as a judge).
Brother Ryan is quite the tapper! And the jokester! Love these two brothers.

Lauren & Lydia Guerre, 19, Dallas, TX
The twins that were GOOD and actually synchronized. Not perfect lines but I thought it was really nice. Is this season going to be dueling brothers and sisters?

Los Angeles
Guest Judge: Adam Shankman

Bianca Revels, 20, Detroit, MI
I remember her from last year and I think I really liked her. Tapping this time and she's cool. Kinda reminds me of Karen Olivo (West Side Story and will probably win the Tony for it next week) in spirit but tapping. Mary says she's the best female tap dancer they've had. That's true? Have there even been a lot of female tappers?

Adam Shankman, 21ish, Los Angeles
It's nice to see a judge go up and show them what they've got (to join Calico Sequeira who lindy hops but doesn't make it through). And Adam has still got it! He makes it to vegas, thanks to Katee (!!!) and blackmailing Joshua (!!!).

Asuka Kondoh, 25, Irvine, CA
Ricky Sun, Arcadia, CA
More Asians!!! It feels like there's been more auditioning in these past 2 episodes than the last 4 seasons. (Yah, I know. not that much. my point exactly). And yay! They're good!!!

Then another montage of good dancers, only with no names. So uh. more nameless potentials. Is that a good sign for them?

Nathan Trasoras, 17, Downey, CA
I thought there was a moment where his line wasn't as straight as it could have been... and uh... yeah... that's about all I could rip this apart. It was sooooo beautiful and with his nice face and youthful spirit. BUT ACK!!!. He's 17. And thus not eligible until next season due to his age. ACK... Guess we know the first person in the Top 20 in Season 6 this FALL! (Or I hope so!). In the meantime, more vids at his youtube page.

Sammy Ramirez, 19, Hollister, CA
The red haired pop and locker. Really cool with the little things he does. It's intricate and clean and he has such a big smile (and reminds me SOOO much of a cutie pie friend of mine, so maybe I'm bias) that I (along with the judges) hope that he can do well in the other styles to make it through.

Amanda Kerby, 20, Riverside, Calif.
Father as MS. She's blonde and pretty in that fake blonde skinny girl way, but she dances pretty well enough and kind of reminds me of Romina D'Ugo from SYTYCD Canada (who I loved and thought was shamefully cut too early in the Top 20).

On a completely side note, I didn't realize Romina had a small role in Degrassi: TNG as a fellow Core reporter. Also, I saw Lara from SYTYCD Canada (check her out with Miles... Oh MILES!) at the same bar where I saw Tyron Leitso last night!!!

Arielle Coker, 19, Corpus Christi, TX
Phillip Chbeeb
Phillip automatically advances from last year. Too bad because his partnering with Arielle was actually pretty AMAZING. especially considering he's the pop-locker. She gets to advance because as good as he was, she melded really nicely with him.
I loved that they united their styles.

Alexie Agdeppa, 25, Rowland Heights, CA
Diana Vaden, 19, Reno, NV
Chanel Smith, 22, Pleasant Grove, UT
Another quick montage of three good dancers with just enough to show us they're good but not much else. And then they spend way too long with "Shakiro". Where's my remote? (Actually, he's odd and almost painful to watch yet not as bad as I thought he could have been. It's not GOOD but he does have some of the steps down)

Seattle
Guest Judge: Mia Michaels

Kelsea Taylor, 18, Millcreek, WA
Finally! Someone good in Seattle. After what seemed like an endless parade of joke auditions. You do gotta feel bad for the judges. Then again, isn't there a pre-audition usually? Anyways, She looks like she would be strange and pixieish in that Japanimation way. She's only 1 of 4 that make it to Vegas after day 1 in Seattle. FOUR???

Kuponohi'ipou Aweau, 23, Kailua, Hawaii
Strong yet feminine says Mary. Here we go again... Reminded me of Mark (Nigel mentions it too). Quirky contemporary dancer.

Then we finish off with Sex and a russian who thinks he can get any girl to have sex with him. Ugh...

Next week: Vegas Week Auditions. Already!!! Where 169 remaining dancers in the competition . And then the Top 20 will be announced by Thursday!

Pushing Daisies, Back From The Dead, Just Before It's Going To Die Again

I'm not sure what Pushing Daisies ever do to the ABC network execs but they're getting punished and banished forever starting tonight (May 30th 2009), when it returns at 10pm for the final 3 episodes over the next 3 Saturdays.

Olive? I know! So Shocking! And you so don't deserve that kind of treatment, especially after bringing such technicolor whimsy into our lives. And you Kristen Chenowith, were even able to bring song and a particular brand of perkiness/snark onto our television screens and make it LOVABLE.

And now we get no more. And your new pilot Legally Mad wasn't even picked up. A sad time it is. (Maybe you'll have time to go back to Broadway? At least you'll guest on Glee! Maybe it could be permanent?). Still, sad time it is for Pushing Daisies.

I know Emerson. I know Ned. Such undeserved treatment, especially since you guys were doing so well pre-writer's strike. Then ABC held you back and off the schedule for almost 9 months (if not more).

And here you two are, playing detectives despite death, and making it fun and funny? And for once, Chi McBride, you weren't annoying. In fact, your dry condescension WORKED for Emerson here, and helped counteract the candy coated colours on the sets.

I know Chuck, such sadness. It's okay, you have a big movie coming out. It looks stupid, cause you know, it's Will Farrell and it's Land of the Lost but at least you're getting roles. Including Breakfast at Tiffany's in the West End.

And of Aunts Lily and Vivian. You don't have to put on a brave face. You were both iconic actresses before, and you'll remain so.

The final 3 episodes of the series Windows Dressed To Kill, Water and Power and Kerplunk airs from tonight through June 13th. They never even really get a chance to wrap up the series. At least the S2 DVD's will come out this summer.

On a final note, in some weird cosmic reminder that only I would manage to link it as a reminder to Pushing Daisies (because that's how my mind works), I bumped into Tyron Leitso at a bar last night. And yes, he's as yummy in person as he is on TV. More. Tyron Leitso always looked like he could be Lee Pace's brother. Plus both Leitso and Pace co-starred in Bryan Fuller's pre-Pushing Daisies series Wonderfalls. Yes, that's really how my mind works. I'm like a Six Degrees In IMDB game at ALL times.

Six Degrees of Degrassi

Lots of Degrassi news. New characters for Season 9. Alumni's are moving on (to Spring Awakening and the US networks new pilots). Plus I've seen this summer's special TV movie Degrassi Goes Hollywood and it's FUN! With some catchy songs! And it's a musical! (Well, sort of. It partially spoofs HSM)

First off, the news I'm most excited about (even though I know no one will have any clue what I'm talking about).

Landon Liboiron is joining the cast! Who? I didn't know who he was either, but he blew me away in a guest spot on an episode of Flashpoint, who along with a terrific Tyler Hynes, played brothers on the episode "He Knows His Brother" (Ep. 107) and along with his blue eyes, had a nice innocence combined with dramatic intensity that makes him an exciting actor to watch out for.

And now he's the new kid at Degrassi!

Landon Liboiron (or here on his youtube page or with his music) will be Declan Coyne, along with Annie Clark as his sister and Jessica Tyler will also be joining the cast. (via StephenStohn)

Next up, current cast member Nina Dobrev (Mia), will follow like Shenae Grimes (90210) and will start off the season at Degrassi and end off with vampires in The CW's new show The Vampire Diaries (what? Anna Lynne McCord isn't a vampire?). Okay, so the trailer looks a bit hokey but then so did Twilight and I actually ended up liking that a lot. Plus, The VD (hmm... that's NOT a great nickname though with the whole vampire blood thing, could actually be thematically relevant) has Lost's Ian Somerhalder!!! (Wait, isn't he supposed to return back to the island as the Losties do it all over again?) AND Steven R. McQueen from Everwood. I LOVE that kid! (And yes, grandson to Steve McQueen). Sadly it also stars Paul Wesley. Who was annoying in Everwood (in season 2, who singlehandedly almost ruined the amazing series), who was annoying in American Dreams, who was annoying in Cane... you get the point.

It'll be sad to see Nina go, but they've sort of run its course with Mamma Mia and Nina was always bound for huge things, including the upcoming Atom Egoyan film Chloe (with Liam Neeson). So now that's 2 shows on The CW headlined by a Degrassi alum. (And considering they only have about 10 shows, that's quite the coup!).

And while Laura Vandervoort wasn't exactly on Degrassi, she was on sister show Instant Star (from the same makers), Laura moved to The CW's Smallville (do I see a pattern here?), and has now landed herself on the upcoming ABC remake of cult classic V: The Series. And it looks pretty GOOD! And has favorites Scott Wolf (Party of Five), Elizabeth Mitchell (who will apparently also be Lost still, at least for a few episodes) and Morena Baccarin (Firefly).

And as fellow Instant Star alum Kyle Riabko leaves the tour of Spring Awakening (though his ABC pilot Limelight didn't seem to get picked up), a new Melchior has been cast to take over and it's none other than Degrassi fan favorite Craig! er... Jake Epstein! (Last seen in Toronto's Dog Sees God).

Plus, he returns for this summer's Degrassi Goes Hollywood!

Which I have now seen!

While I won't spoil too much of the plot, it technically continues straight after Season 8, but we focus back on the core Degrassi: TNG faves when some of the gang goes to LA in an attempt to land in Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes' new movie High School Mewesical (both who return to Degrassi world). Paige is supposedly living the lavish LA lifestyle, Marco and Ellie go visit, Craig reappears, Manny and Emma take a bus with Jay, Peter, and the Studz gang towards Hollywood and yes, there are SONGS! And they are GOOD! (Especially the finale, and Craig's song).

And yes, there's DANCING! Though don't worry, the awkward Degrassi dramatic innocence is still there, and as much flash and splash they can fit in, it still definitely feels very Degrassi (though leaning towards the funnier eps rather than a dramatic controversial one).

I'm still not sure exactly when it will air, as The N has only set an August date. CTV will probably air it around the same time.

Oh, and apparently Aubrey Graham (now under his rapper name... uh... something) is rumoured to be dating/only friends with Rihanna? WHAT the!?!

Toxic Love - The Toxic Avenger Musical - Musical Review

The Toxic Avenger Musical - New World Stages - Off-Broadway, New York - *** (out of 5 stars)
Music and Lyrics by David Bryan, Book and Lyrics by Joe DiPietro, Directed by John Rando, Choreographed by Wendy Seyb

Can a musical that's idiotic, silly, stupid, cheap-looking and completely out of its mind be any good? Sure, why not!?! Especially when the costumes and sets seem purposely cheap and over the top, when the dancing and the acting winks harder at you then a politician during election time, and when you have an energetic and talented cast acting out one of the most brainless musicals, there's an infectious spirited charm that hovers over this so-bad-it's good show.

John Rando, who did a wonderously riotous job with Urinetown (and a 180 elegancy with last season's Encores On The Town) uses the same manic charms on a story that is less intelligent (it's a musical about saving the environment but most of that gets thrown by the wayside for silly horror shlock and even sillier comedy) but even more outrageous. Based on an old cult movie, Bon Jovi's David Bryan and Joe DiPietro (who will be represented on Broadway in this coming Fall's Memphis) have fashioned a musical based around Melvin Ferd The Nerd, a nerd in love with the blind Sarah, and who tries to fight against the pollution in New Jersey, only to turn into a hideous monster after the evil Mayor gets him thrown into the vat of toxic waste Melvin was originally fighting to rid of. Then he gets revenge.

The rock songs are catchy enough to be fun and the story is silly enough to work, and much like my friend's Evil Dead: The Musical or The Rocky Horror Show, mixes humour and horror all with SONG!

But it's really the cast that sells this thing, and boy do they SELL IT. The comedy written isn't the funniest I've seen, but in the hands of this spirited cast, they make it work. And if it doesn't, they try to make the next joke work, or the next, or the next. It's non-stop and it's hard to dislike their charming manic attempts. Enthusiasm certainly holds a lot of weight on stage.

Nick Cordero plays our toxic hero Melvin Ferd The Third/The Toxic Avenger and does a nice switch from cute but nerdy Melvin and strong but greenfaced Toxie. His love Sarah is played with loopy sway by Sara Chase.

Unfortunately, Nancy Opel (so hilarious from Urinetown) was out the night we went, but luckily, understudy Erin Leigh Peck was HYSTERICAL in the multiple roles of Mayor, Ma, and a Nun. Sometimes together in the same scene. That song alone to watch Peck (or Opel or any actress) attempt to play both Mayor and Ma in the same scene is worth the price of admission. Peck's voice was also outstanding and it's a shame that she doesn't get to go on stage every night. Peck's beauty seemed at odds to her character costumes but it made it all the funnier, and Peck never holds back at selling each character.

Demond Green (above left, really? that's his real name? Are you sure?) and Matthew Saldivar (above right) round out the small cast by playing every other imaginable role, including Sarah's best friends, the bullies that beat up Melvin, a senior citizen, a thug, a professor, a cop, etc. etc. etc.

Essentially, they get to camp it up as woman, and get ripped up and slaughtered as men (and sometimes vice versa). Green and Saldivar enthusiastically run around the stage in various roles and milks each character for every laugh they can get. Green, who looks like a younger Tracy Morgan, but sings like Taye Diggs, is pure comedy gold and along with Peck, can steal the stage from a very loud (in both sight and sound) show.

While in the end, the puerile book and the lame jokes (made funny by the cast) holds the musical back, the spirited cast and the fun (if forgettable) songs make this show more memorable than Rock of Ages, which itself, is far more fun than Shrek. And if you like watching people's body parts ripped apart all in song (with some love story and environmental lesson thrown in for good measure), this show is for you!

ABC, NBC, CBS, CW, FOX, ZZZ

ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX and The CW have announced their fall schedules. ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ. Considering this post has been in the making for a week, you can see how excited I was to post and share my thoughts.

ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ. Does anybody even care about the new shows for next season? I mean, we've already seen the best in Glee so I've already found my new obsession. Can the new season actually bring something else amazing? Would it even survive more than 4 weeks?

Cause after Pushing Daisies. After Privileged. After The Unusuals. After Worst Week. I don't know if I can trust the networks enough to fall in love with a series only to be have it cancelled. Granted, I'm shocked Better Off Ted, Friday Night Lights, and Southland are back but I'm sure they'll be relegated to a horrible time slot.

I mean, how did Friday's 9pm slot become so full? I know it's sort of seen as a deathtrap, but I still love Ugly Betty, Dollhouse and Southland and now all three will be in that time slot (in addition to Friday Night Lights when it resumes now in Summer 2010 on NBC... Yes, SUMMER 2010... at least on free network TV... ahem).

Plus, ABC has a brand new show block for Wednesdays, with 4 new comedies to bring us back to the early 90's. Kelsey Grammer (Hank) and former co-star Patricia Heaton (The Middle) as well as Ed O'Neill (Modern Family) and Courteney Cox (Cougar Town). Didn't this group hold the top 3 comedies of the 90's outside of Jerry Seinfeld?

Meanwhile, I'm glad I pretty much avoided pilot season this year since I keep hearing of great shows that got passed over for Mischa Barton's new show The Beautiful Life. Which I'm sure I'll still watch. I'm such a sucker.

And when did Medium become a hot show? With NBC and CBS fighting for it? Who knew!? So of all the networks, FOX actually looks like it may have the most things I actually watch. When did THAT happen? I'm usually an ABC/CW man, or even NBC but NBC seems to be trying to commit suicide, while ABC is running like a chicken with its head cut off after attempts at quality programming was met with indifference (if I were them, I'd be frustrated too). And CW continues to piss me off with Dawn Ostroff somehow still running the place and on her annual rampage as she kills off great shows (RIP Everwood, Veronica Mars, Aliens in America, Privileged) while banking on hot trash (90210, Melrose Place, The Vampire Diaries, The Beautiful Life, One Tree Hill). And CBS is CBS. Someone's watching. So why WOULD they change?

Shows I still care about in BOLD.

The TV Blog Coalition - After These Messages... I'll Be Right Back

I'm still SO far behind on catching up with TV because I'm now obsessed with Kris Allen (yay Idol!) and Glee. I'm sure you've noticed. Please bear with me. Regular programming will resume shortly. (Also, the fact that I'm currently ogling the Bachelors vying for The Bachelorette doesn't help).

Meanwhile, here's what the other TV bloggers talked about last week:

Season finales? What season finales? Buzz turned her attention to the months ahead and asked which summer TV show has you most excited. (BuzzSugar)

Sandie interviewed Jenny Wade who plays Nina on Reaper. (Daemon's TV)

Scooter is not sure what the funniest part of Upfronts were, NBC and CBS fighting over Medium, Greg Garcia's Titanic comment, or the clips for the V reboot (which apparently were not supposed to be funny), but he runs down what he will be watching in the fall. (Scooter McGavin's 9th Green)

Vance had quite the reaction when Kris Allen won American Idol. (Tapeworthy)

This week, Jace reported on all of the goings-on at the 2009 network upfronts and offered up extremely advance reviews on the full pilots of such new series as ABC's V, Happy Town, and Modern Family, and NBC's Community. (Televisionary)

Jesse gave his detailed analysis of the Will Ferrell-hosted season finale of SNL, which featured too many big star cameos for him to count. (TiFaux)

Scrubs may be back next season, but Jennifer said her goodbyes now. (Tube Talk)

After reading a few Melrose Place spoilers, Matt cannot wait for the reincarnation of this classic series. (TV Fanatic)

Cam Gigandet Beats Up Little Girls. YAH!

So THAT'S how you say his name.

I still can't believe I actually really liked that movie. And I'm kinda excited about the new one. Despite the fact the new posters look like turd. (I'm not even going to post them because if you want to have seen them, you probably already blew them up and printed a copy for your wall).

Kristen Bell Party Downz!

KRISTEN BELL is on the season finale of Party Down tonight!!! (On Starz at 10:30pm on Fridays after Head Case at 10pm, which I hear is good but haven't had the chance to check out yet. Both shows which seem to be available online on their site).

And what's with the Journey comeback? ANOTHER reference to "Don't Stop Believin'"? Is this some kind of sign for me?

but KRISTEN BELL!!! Veronica Mars! Together again with Dick Casablanca! And Vinnie Van Lowe!!!
Kristen is Uda Bengt, a rival caterer!!!:

AND Jennifer Coolidge?!!!:

I'm actually a few episodes behind on Party Down but I'm loving the series from Rob Thomas and the Veronica Mars folks AND Paul Rudd. (Yes, if you didn't know already, THE Paul Rudd is a creator and producer on this show). Plus since this show stars VM alums Ken Marino and Ryan Hansen, it's totally AWESOME (picture Hansen saying it!). Plus Adam Scott, who guested on VM as a teacher.

AND It's the OTHER show Jane Lynch is currently on. (Seriously, everything comes back to Glee this week doesn't it?). No word yet if she will continue with this series since Party Down has been picked up for a second season, which will coincide with Glee filming but I'm sure they can work it out. She can cater while they sing!

Oh, and Sulu's in the episode too! And George Takei as himself! (NSFW):

Plus I definitely want to see the outcome of this:

Because I Can't Get Enough Of It, And I'll Never Stop Believin'!

My week started off with "Don't Stop Believin'" (the final song in Broadway's Rock of Ages which I saw Saturday), then Glee (and then Kris Allen winning! WEEE!!!!). So I have to end off the week with it again. Because I just can't get enough. (When do you think they're going to do THAT song? OMG it would be AWESOME!)

(Although is it weird that it's flipped? Except, the promos used THIS version which means they flipped it for the actual episode? Am I the only one that noticed? Or cares?)

Oh, and here's a sneak peak at "It's My Life" mixed with "Confessions" with Finn (Cory Monteith) and "Halo" mixed with "Walking on Sunshine" with Rachel (Lea Michele) from a future episode!!!

Now, back to Rehab!

So You Think You Can Dance - Just Dance

So You Think You Can Dance - Auditions - New York City, Denver - Ep. 501 - Season 5 Premiere

Boy, FOX sure doesn't give us any rest between the end of American Idol and the start of SYTYCD do they? I mean, people still aren't finished their rants on last nights finale. But let's be like Adam and Kris and be friends and move on! (Seriously, how cute have the two of them been in the post-finale interviews?)

So now instead of Adam screaming, we get Mary Murphy's scream! WAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!

Okay, so I'm still exhausted from Idol so I'm not quite ready for the Mary scream yet, nor am I really ready to endure another set of auditions, but cause it's SYTYCD, I'll stick it out, even though I have no interest in seeing the bad auditions anymore. I mean, this show doesn't get AMAZING until they start pairing up the Top 20 and introducing new choreography. That's when it gets GOOD!!!

Thank goodness for Tabitha and Napoleon who joins the judging panel again for auditions in New York City! Man, I love them. Why can't they find judges that are as cool and articulate as those two on Idol? THIS shows you that you CAN have four judges and make it work.

So, because I'm lazy right now, I'm blogging only any notable auditions, and I'm watching this on the TV without rewind capabilities, so between the editing and intros, I'm taking a gander on noting names that I expect will be good, and I must say, I think I'm getting so intuned with the editing that I was pretty much right on every audition. I ignored the bad ones, and noted most of the good ones (though I still missed some of the info, so apologies, cause this year I don't think I'll be able to keep up as much, there's wikipedia for that).

Anyways, let's get dancing! Here's some dancers to watch for, that may have some possible chances:
New York City
Guest Judges: Napoleon and Tabitah D'Umo

Gabi Rojas, 24, Albuequerque, NM
Kinda like a female Mark K. Quirky and modern and weird but really neat and wonderful. Plus she's really stretchy. Gets an automatic ticket to Vegas.

Peter Sabasino, Philadelphia, PA
Italian Tap Dog! Looks like a boxer, dances with pizazz. Plus, there's clips of him eating spaghetti with his family. Cute!

Tiffany Geigel, 23, Brooklyn, NY
Born with a spinal cord injury, she never got to grow properly to full size. It's one of those heartbreaking stories where usually you cringe because there's really no chance of them going on. I thought she did well, but sadly, Nigel tells her she has no chance of going on.

Maksim Kapitannikov (or something like that)
Dances with Fayina from a previous season. There's something very straight laced about him, like he's an accountant or something, breaking beyond the suit and secretly knowing how to dance really well (so like the plot of Shall We Dance I guess) and while I didn't think it was amazing, I liked Maksim.

Then montage of good dancers that we don't really get to see. Which is the part that annoys me about these auditions. I mean, it's not like they have time to show every good one, but then don't waste our time with really bad embarrassing auditions. Luckily so far it's been kept to a minimum.

And
Nabuya (?), the locker from Tokyo managed to surprise me and was not the disaster they built him up to be. In fact, he makes it to Vegas.

Lauren Gottlieb (who apparently was seen in the Glee premiere, is this years choreographer for the choreography section.

Arielle Taylor, 20, NJ
She made it to vegas a few years ago when she was still in high school but needed to grow more, and maybe it's because she had a great smile or she picked a nice song, but she seemed wonderful in her contemporary routine (even though I thought it ended weak partially because Nigel stopped her halfway through the next move). I have a feeling we will be seeing a lot more of her. Even the editing for her points to it.

Igor Zabronin, 23, and Nina in the yellow dress with the yellow flower whose name I missed.
Whoa, he spins her like she was a top. It was almost kinda scary. Luckily the pair seem super cute. Dizzying, but adorable. Too bad only Igor makes it to Vegas.

Kellen Stancil, 23, New York City, NY
Umbrella man with strong looking legs. To a Rascal Flatts song. Seems part ballet almost in his contemporary routine. Definitely one to watch out for. Really really strong body but very smooth.

Chimezie Nwosu, 20
Between the clangy parking music, I thought it was really really cool. It was hip hop but somehow more lyrical.

Denver Auditions:
Guest judge: Sonya Tayeh

Or can't Idol ever find judges like Sonya? So cool! Like a BILLION times cooler than Kara. Is it also because these judges have to work with the contestants and choreograph them? Whereas the Idol

Kayla Randonski to "Blackbird"
I didn't like this super blonde pixie stick at first but then within her short audition, I really got to like her. She was like a weird bird.

Misha Belfer (above left), 26, Denver, CO and Mitchel Kobel (above right), 26, Denver, CO
2 guys ballroom dancing. Mitch (who is super cute and pretty . of course) is straight (uh. okay. sure). Misha is the gay one. Well that's a nice way to subvert stereotypes! You go boys! Too bad they make a huge spill. And too bad their costumes are so flaming (like literally, what's with the blue flame). Nigel basically spills some thinly veiled (actually, not even that thinly) homophobic barb against the dance, but leave it to Sonya to actually intellectualize Nigel's reservations and makes the point somewhat valid. They move on to choreography but not Vegas. UPDATE It's even worse than I thought. I was giving the judges too much credit. Nigel. Tsk tsk. I get what he's trying to say, and I'm still undecided about my own response.

Elias Holloway and his brother Enik (?)
The 2 youngest of 14 kids? Elias was definitely handsome and hot (and definitely getting the gay vibe there), and it's got to do a number on you being kid 13 out of 14, but I was kinda expecting disaster.
Except he was actually pretty good. They both were. At least until they did their strip tease which was a bit awkward. (Especially since I was kinda getting the gay vibe from both brothers and I had bad bad thoughts in my mind). Sadly he doesn't make it through choreography.

Brandon Bryant, 19, Miami, FL, and Natalie Reid, 23, Seattle, WA
Gev and Katie got the last spots last year leaving Natalie and Brandon behind.
Natalie came so close last year (above), and I really liked her, AND she stood up for her roomate Katie who ended up taking the final spot (and becoming my eventual favorite after having a lot of catching up to do). Now it'll probably be Natalie's chance FINALLY, and deservedly so! Sonya totally agrees.

Brandon lost the last spot to Gev last year (audition photo from last year above), and as amazing as Brandon was, I loved Gev more. But, just to remind us that he's here to dance (and not to count him out), his audition was pretty grand (helped by some grand operatic music) and he's really REALLY strong. Plus he's seemed to have toned down the cockiness that I think did him in last year. He's IN. For SURE.

Next week: More auditions in Miami, FL and Memphis, TN on Wednesday, May 27th 2009
