So You Think You Can Dance - 8 ty 6 ed

Top 8 Results - The Cut to 6 - Week 7

So first of all, some of you people on BloggingSYTYCD are WAY HARSH on these poor dancers (and choreographers too, though I agree, Dan Karaty is WAY overrated). Either that or I'm that guy you can run over and sucker. Over here. That's me! With my rose coloured glasses still on! Are we that cynical nowadays that many people disliked Mia's choreography? It wasn't her best (I actually think it was the Top 6 Imogen Heap from last year, then the Park Bench), but it was still beautiful and simplistic but that doesn't necessarily mean it was easy to perform. Even you Dan (of Ducky Does TV)? Tisk Tisk (though I'll let you, Emily Eclaire Fare go since you love Pasha and Sabra too!).

At least I have Mikey (Mikey Likes TV where I cribbed the above photo and showed it... oh. for no particular reason...) and Sandie (of Daemon's TV) in (mostly) agreement with me! What's with the stone hearts this week/year. I can understand Beckyloo's comments but I guess I give more benefit of the doubt even though she raises some good points. Still, have our expectations just been raised so much that we expect every routine to be EXCELLENT? Even last year, there were usually only one or two routines per show that were EXCELLENT, if even. I think time has built up nostalgia and lustre for last years dance routines, and this is coming from me, who didn't think Season 2 could be topped.

Meanwhile, the Danny-hater haters were out in full force and jumping down my throat. Look, if this competition lasted another 7 more weeks, I think Danny would win my heart over now that he's conveying a bit of emotion through those sunglasses (Seriously, he needs to dance to Corey Hart's song), but at this point, I prefer to watch the others. Meanwhile, I'm worried that Sara is leaving tonight. If she does, I'm BLAMING YOU DANNY. You screwed her over with your LOOK AT ME LOOK AT ME dancing. Yes, we know you can pirouette and jump like a basketball player. Now CONNECT with your partner please. I know this is a solo competition and you eventually want to knock out all the other players but this ain't Survivor so don't even dare try to get the other strong players out to pave the way to your SYTYCD crown.

Boy, let the hate mail continue to roll in! (And again, I never said I HATE him. I just said I prefer the other 3 boys MORE.

Okay, let's just cleanse the palate a little and think about some good times last night (thanks to rickey).

Alright, everyone good? So on with the (results) show!

The opening Top 8 Group Dance was choreographed by Shane Sparks to "Get Up" - Ciara
Here is the video clip:

Top 8 Week 7 Opening Group Dance
I will say though that the group dances haven't been as outstanding as I hoped they would be. They are always really good but nothing stellar but then again, I didn't LOVE last years "Technologic" until the tour version. And then, the most memorable group dances were last years Top 6 (Mia Michael's/ Imogen Heap dance) and Top 4 (Wade Robson's/ SexyBack dance) so maybe this year it's still yet to come? The Shane Sparks Matrix The Musical routine was neat, and that's about the perfect word I can come up to describe it. That was neato. I was impressed with parts, thought others were a'ight.

Everyone gets to solo tonight no matter who is in the bottom 4:

Sara - "Set It Off" - Big Daddy Kane

Sara Solo Week 7

Lacey - "I'm Doing Everything" - Rocket Summer

Lacey Solo Week 7

Sabra - "Better Not Touch" - Shemekia Copeland

Sabra Solo Week 7

Lauren - "Last Night" - P. Diddy ft. Keyshia Cole

Lauren Solo Week 7

Okay, maybe I'm tired of defending the dancers today because I thought they were all admirable solos but nothing that stood out and nothing as good as Heidi's solo from last year (even though I think they are all usually just as good). In fact, everyone seemed a bit tired, especially Lacey surprisingly because she's usually so much hyper. Of them all, I thought Sara was the weakest which saddens me because I LOVE her while Sabra was probably the best of the girls.

Neil - "Better Man" - James Morrison

Neil Solo Week 7

Danny - "Fever" - Elvis Presley

Danny Solo Week 7

Dominic - "She's a Bad Mama Jama Stacked (She's Built, She's Stacked)" - Carl Carlton

Dominic Solo Week 7

Pasha - "Scott and Fran's Paso Doble" - Stricly Ballroom (soundtrack)

Pasha Solo Week 7

Looks like the boys are tired too, as everyone has a misstep or two. Neil does his usual bag of tricks, so does Danny. Dominic adds a prop chair to his usual array(though it's pretty cool) and Pasha get's a big cape. Oh, and he's shirtless. Like Dmitry did last year. That's all I have to say. No comment. Just watching.

The Bottom Four Dancers are:
Sara (I'd say boo but I realised I would say boo if any of these girls were called)
Lauren
Neil (WHAT?)
Dominic

One Republic performs. Who? hmm I kinda like this. "It's Too Late To Apologize" or something like that.

The girl leaving the competition tonight is: SARA.
Um, what did I tell you? I'm not even going to yell. I was AFRAID OF THIS (oops). She was amazing with every partner she was paired up with (think about it, Jésus and the Triplets and the other Latin dance, Pasha's 80's dance, Neil's Disco) until she got stuck with DANNY. When she finally has the one bad week that kills her. She wasn't even bad last night, she was just in the worst PAIRING. Okay. I was going to give you a break Danny but it's ON.

The boy leaving is Dominic, which I'm not as surprised as he has had two mediocre weeks in a row but he was adorable and so likable and almost always surprised us and still gained skills so much faster and better than we could have ever hoped for.

So, the two breakers are gone just 2 weeks before the final. I'm still shaking my head, especially for Sara's sake.

OMG. Cat Deeley is TOMATO RED after Dominic gets mighty close. SERIOUSLY. LOL...So funny!

So wait, doesn't this leave the three boys that have now all gone shirtless? Hmm...

So thanks for reading, sadly, I'm stuck in China next week for work (ugh, I do NOT love my "homeland" as I have numerous issues with their politics and practices, which I'm sure Fisher Price is finally learning this week (I'll withold my "I told you so")), so I think my sister will be taking over the blog for me in a simplified format (or whatever she decides to do with it) next week. So before I go, I WANT TO SEE Pasha, Neil, Sabra and Lacey in the final four now. I could possibly deal with Sabra and Lauren but THAT'S IT. Don't disappoint me (again) America!
And to all those bloggers I linked to? yes, I'm all about whoring my 10 readers over to you! I'm all about the sharing.

How the hell did Neil end up in the bottom two? I'm gonna be super-cheesed if he's not in the final four.

Also... I love Lauren, but if she and Sara were drowning, and I had one floaty thing, it'd totally go with Sara.

No, not Sara, she was my very first favorite :-(

So now I'm rooting for Sabra for the girls.

As for the boys all my attention is on Pasha now that Dominic is gone.

Those two better not get eliminated because after them I don't really care about the show anymore.

Yup, as you may have noticed, Pasha, Sabra and Neil better be in the top 4 so when I get back, that's what I had better see. I don't know why people still aren't really taking to Neil though so I'm expecting the worst as the Danny fans bleed their fingers away on the phone.

And I love Lauren too but yeah, I would have saved Sara first.

Yes even me, I'm that cold hearted and cynical. I thought it was ridiculous that dance of Mia's. So many people said watch it again, watch it again. I did and now I need to take back my initial comments.

I HATE IT MORE NOW! Thanks everyone for making me sit through it a couple more times.

You have more than ten readers, just in my office alone!

I have more than ten readers in one office alone? (I hope it's not mine)... WOW. Thats kind of bringing tears to my eyes! (That or I'm just SO ready for a vacation.. ha).

And Ducky, Ah, you cold hearted bitch! haha... I bet you're going to convulse when they do it on the tour!

Did anyone else notice Danny not hugging or saying bye to the remaining contestants on the stage when he found out he was safe? He just jumped up for joy and ran off stage. That was pompous of him. Not a fan at all!

Go Neil and Pasha! I'm gonna stop watching if any of those 2 get eliminated.

Surprised that Neil was in the bottom two... but all he does is spin in the air. At least he seems pretty genuine... Let's talk about their personalities.. who do you think is putting on a show? Personally, I've had enough of Lauren's giggly girl facade.

Butter: Sabra, Neil, Danny ("You all suck, I'm the best" version)

Can't Believe It's Not Butter (or is it?): Lacey, Pasha

Margarine: Danny ("I like to smile" version), Lauren

That butter analogy is hilarious. As for Lacey and Pasha, it bothers me a bit but at the same time, I think they've been trained so much in their own fields, with that SHOW face that it's sort of ingrained in them and I think its just part of their personality now. So I can't blame them for it.I also think for Pasha, it's part of his hiding of the little boy geek within him, while Lacey, it's part of the family genes.

I didn't notice Danny not hugging but i might recheck it out again, but again, I tune him out when he's not dancing (and sometimes even when he is).

I hate that Sara got cut. I think that's a crime, since Lauren has been consistently dull since I first started watching her, except for a few exceptions.

I'm not surprised Dominic got cut. The last two weeks have been pretty rough on him. But I'm sad he got cut because he has really evolved since the show started. But as soon as Sabra was no longer his partner, he just kind of faltered.

I'm glad that Sabra and Pasha are consistently safe, because those are my favorite two dancers. I say they are my favorites for several reasons: they are clearly experts in their dance specialties (Sabra in contemporary and Pasha in Latin); they are consistently good or great with ever other variety of dance they've had to do; they both have solid and memorable personalities; and they dance well as individuals as well as with partners. To me, that covers all the bases as to why they should be in the top two, at least.

Lauren's personality is bland, and her dancing has never really been GREAT to me. It's been GOOD, but not great.

Neil's personality is memorable, and his technique is good, but he's been really hit-and-miss with a lot of his dances.

Danny's technique as an individual dancer is undeniably the best. But as a partner, he's also hit-and-miss, and he's pretty weak with other genres of dance. His personality was vanilla for so long, and even now I feel like it's still too bland for me to appreciate.

Lacey has a memorable personality, and she's a consistently good partner. But we've never had much opportunity to see her dance as an individual, except just recently. And that solo was really unimpressive to me. She was just strutting on the stage.

As long as Sabra and Pasha stick around until the top four, I'm satisfied. If either get cut, I'm done with this show, because I don't think you can reconcile dancers as well-rounded as they are being cut.
