The Mother of all Jokes On The CW - ON The Network, Not ABOUT The Network

Everybody Hates Chris - Everybody Hates the Guidance Counselor - Season 3 Premiere
Aliens in America - Pilot - Series Premiere

The comedy block starts again tonight on The CW. Wait. Don't laugh YET. I'm talking about the shows. Not the network.

Everybody Hates Chris, a small little gem that isn't perfect but should still be bigger than it is, starts up again tonight in its third season premiere (3rd ALREADY??) with co-creator Chris Rock FINALLY making an appearance to gain some ratings. I like Chris Rock. His standup is funny. He's likable in movies. But he's not a great actor. His appearance on hiw own show (based on his childhood that he usually narates) as the school guidance counselor plays less funny than it should have been. In fact, yet again, Tichina Arnold (below) steals the show with her deservedly over-acting as Chris' mom, while Terry Crews underplays Chris' dad to a great comic duo effect.

Following Everybody Hates Chris (8pm on The CW) is Aliens in America at 8:30pm (The CW and SunTV in Canada) which while not prefect, is far better than the offensive sitcom some people think it is just based on description. In fact, it's almost the opposite. Too endearing and nice for its own good. Still, it's definitely worth a look and has a lot of potential. I actually haven't seen the new revised pilot with Scott Patterson (Gilmore Girls, picture after the jump) as the dad but the original pilot was sweet, and Amy Pietz really takes the role of the mom and runs with it! Hmm... that's two for two on funny moms on the The CW.
